Okay, so, I thought the whole "he's not gonna prepare!" stuff was going to be a way to lower expectations, but the way they're playing this comes across more like, "preparing is for nerds," which is an interesting tactic for a presidential campaign

I mean the media thinks its an equally valid strategy

that's obviously a shitty take, but I can see where "this is too rehearsed" could come off as a valid criticism. I don't think it applies here, but rubio blew himself up in the primaries in part because he was too committed to getting off his sound bites

    it's Chuck Todd
He is living his dream of running way to the circus only to find out it's a bunch of clowns

Trump's the kid who coasted through high school due to being the son of the principal who goes to college and fails out his first semester because he's so used to getting everything handed to him that he can't comprehend studying.

I would say it wasnt 100% a rout. Trump was somewhat together for the first... 10 minutes, and but then he just fell apart. Clinton was just dunking all night long though. So like 80% rout.

I"m glad I didn't watch it live, the first ten minutes would have stressed me out a lot. Clinton stumbled a few times and whiffed a joke, Trump managed to sound reasonable and keep it together. I could see him being boring all the way to a win, which is all he needed to do. Then it became clear that he can't play defence.

Ranger threads are threads of pictures of beautiful people, so named because some original ranger threads were populated with pictures of the female actresses from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series (pink ranger yellow ranger etc.)
You've been here longer than me and I managed to pick that up from context, pick up your game brosepheles.

Essentially they were mod endorsed, Maxim level soft porn threads. They were pretty horrible and I'm glad we got rid of them. Unbelievably, that was actually a politically difficult thing to do.

There's a difference between winning and not losing, and all Trump needed to do was the latter.

Assuming he doesn't ragequit the other debates, it will be interesting to see what prep work his team tries to impart on him.

If he tries to take his ball and go home, while his base will love it, moderates will see him as a sore loser and the backlash should drive his numbers even lower.

Like, I seriously hope he tries to do that for the next debate just so he can crash and burn while HRC gets a free 1-2 hours of TV at his expense, but I doubt his advisors would let him do something so self-defeating. Then again, they let him debate tonight, so what do I know?

I can see Donny trying to actually prep and be more serious, for about a week. I don't think it'll stick though. He's gonna chase sound bytes and try to lob some singers and probably keep hammering on the emails and Benghazi and Bill Clinton being a pretty shitty husband and it will get him precisely nowhere because Hillary has been going through this whole scenario in her head for like thirty years. She has run dozens of election seasons through her head in their totality before she even gets out of the shower in the morning. She is, as she said, prepared.

The BEST that I think he'll be able to manage is lasting longer before losing his shit completely again.

Some moderators and many members. PA at the time was just Mike and Jerry and they didn't read the forums. I guarantee that if we'd had that kind of contact with them at the time, we would have seen zero pushback from them though. They would rightly be amazed that we let it go for so long.

Just finished watching it. Wow, she really put it in. Any small points he may have gotten were lost in bluster and nonsense, she just had to let him speak. I'm really glad it went this way. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to dodge the next one though. I hope Clinton can keep on the pressure if there's a second, it won't be as easy as this one.

My read of this whole thing is that Trump does better when he just doesn't speak.
He's gotta find a way that lets him remain silent until November, unless he's talking to people who already love him.

Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

Yeah, any strategy that involves trying to change the minds of Trump supporters is a losing battle. It's better to quarantine them in your mind and focus on the undecideds.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a few Trump voters either switch or decide not to vote over this, but the number would likely be stastically insignificant.

I think a lot of voters on the right expected him to be a lot more restrained and presidential last night given that it's, you know, a debate and not just a rally or whatever, and I can see a small portion of people being very disappointed in his performance. Whether that translates in the polls, I am doubtful tbh.

That is true, but I guess I struggle with the idea that if you aren't one of the trump followers who have already bought into what he is selling why you would even consider him in the first place.

Man, my mom bums me out.

Like, she's a remarkably intelligent, thoughtful, caring woman, but her hatred of Hillary Clinton is genuinely disconcerting and the amount of media bullshit regarding Trump and his business acumen and ability to pick "the best people" for his cabinet, along with her casual dismissal of his lack of any experience (which she sees as a good thing) just stuns me.

Like, she didn't watch the debates because she hates Hillary so much, and when I was trying to talk to her about it, any time I tried to even vaguely disagree with FOX news' narrative she'd pretty much immediately accuse me of just believing everything I read on the internet or whatever, even though I watched the whole debate and can say definitively, putting aside my obvious liberal biases, that Trump lost in a number of purely objective categories.

It's honestly just a really huge bummer when I hear a lady who had basically always taught me to respect women and to be kind to people spout this terrible, vile rhetoric about a lady who's really not that different from her.

    Fuckin politics, man.

i hear this a lot and while I know it's true to a degree it's still kinda mind blowing that there could be any undecided voters in this specific election

Low information voters, people who know something vague about emails, who know that they don't like her much, who think people are exaggerating about Trump. People who thought "well he's a businessman who's cool and has his shit together, maybe we need that". Those people just saw him floundering wildly
At what point does he start losing Republican votes because they are afraid of the damage he would do to the party?

The GOP closed ranks, for better or worse. He's losing a lot of traditional GOP voters already, but they're going to Stein or Johnson. Hilary isn't a compromise candidate for embittered GOP types.

You and me, both, Metzger. My mom is incredibly nice, giving, selfless, loves her lesbian niece to pieces, loves her beat friend's lesbian niece to pieces, and yet she is voting for Trump. We can't actually talk to each other about it because it will (and does) turn into a blowout argument. My disappointment in her choice translates into "well I must be the worst person on the planet, clearly I'm an idiot, I'm an asshole, that's obviously what you mean!" And I just want to be like "no, you're just falling for a snake oil salesman's bullshit, and asking for seconds!" Alas, she is 100% stuck in her ways. Cannot see any new perspectives. Fuck trying to explain how Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the anthem is vastly better than literally dying by cop due to being black. He's just a spoiled star with his white parents, oh, he's SO oppressed!

    Not. The. Fucking. Point. Mom.

I've been dealing with this shit for ... whew, a long damn time, now. I didn't realize just how hard-R she is until 2008.

Naah, Trump will do a second one. His team will 'make' him, and actually run through prep with him, to make sure he's ready.

The result will still be the same.
