I will say I really, really like the TOS vassal module. So much more is gained by having the cards in the module since they're all free for TOS. I feel that's the one thing holding Malifaux back. The rules are free but the cards are paid for, so it makes the vassal module harder to use.

Abyssinia vs Cult. It's an Allegiance box game, not the full 2 commander thing they did for Kings Empire and Gibbering Hordes. Still though, maybe the full game will be there, not just two turns. also be good to see how a single commander game plays out.

Huge update to The other Side. They've removed all unit add on unlocks and they're all available now as add ons. Freebies reworked. Old freebies were 350k for the free squad, 375k to get the free adjunct. 450k for the free champion and 500k for the free syndicate model. The new stretch goals give you the free squad at 250k (next goal), Syndicate model at 450k, and overall 1 additional champion, 2 additional adjuncts. Hopefully this gets the pledges started again.
Hi everyone,
I have some great news for you!
With the funding you are currently providing, we're off to a very strong start for this game. We're hoping to push things even further than the initial goal, with a big launch and a lot of available units. To this end, we have managed to lock down some additional funding. By canceling a few other (so far unannounced) projects, we are able to put more funding into The Other Side. We believe very strongly in this game, and we want backers to be able to play it the way we envision it. Some trimming here and there, and we are able to do even more for this Kickstarter.
What this means for backers is that we are able to move all of our add on unlocks directly to the add ons, allowing backers to get the units they are most interested in. Interested in the ECB Black Ops? You can now add them! Want some of the Steel Legion? They're available now!
We are really happy to be able to make this shift in the Kickstarter, making sure our backers are able to start playing day one with the units they want. We will begin posting the unit's rules in updates this week, getting them all out to you over the next few weeks.
What does this mean for Stretch Goals?
Well, it means we get to reorganize all of it, dropping out the add on unlocks. Check out this new map!

I'm still only backing at the Commander level. Allegiance box, titan and freebies is enough for me. I mean, it's already at 50% off MRSP, and that only gets better if more unlocks. I'll reevaluate that when the pledge manager goes out, because I really want the discounted Horomatangi, Devouring Eel and another squad for some variety, but for now I'm sticking to the Commander pledge.

I'm curious to see what those other squads do.
Doomseekers look neat, but I'm in LOVE with the models for The Lost, but I doubt we'll reach that level to see what their rules are like.

Kickstarter dropped to 239k overnight. Second time it happened. First time it took a few days to claw back to 243k. After the new stretch goals were announced, it leaped to 243k in an hour.
Hopefully this gives it the kick in the ass it needs to fund further.
Also, the old stretch goal map continued past 500k, they just didn't show what was past it. The new one ends at 500k, the line doesn't move past it. I think they've decided that that's the end goal of the campaign.

I'm watching the Vassal Fight, and I'm already triggered by the fact that the Burning Man player forgot that he gets an extra portal on the field due to his commander being Adeodatos.

250k reached, so free squad for Commander level and up unlocked.
Cult of the Burning Man - Doomseekers. Magic users.
Gibbering Hordes - Armored Whelks. Tanks.
Kings Empire - Field Intelligence Corps. Sniper unit and some tricks.
They've also put up the cards for the two dual Allegiance Commanders, Kassa Okoye (Kings Empire and Horomatangi (Gibbering Hordes and Cult). Each one has a special Asset depending on which Allegiance they declare. Horomatangi is a Titan and a Commander, so he gets 3 Assets, Commanders usually get 2, making him tougher and more damaging. However, he only brings 22 scrip to the game, not the 25 of other Commanders.

On another note, I grabbed that bundle of Through the Breach PDFs from Bundle of Holding. It contained a shit load of PDFs. The Fated and Fatemasters Almanacs (which I have hardcopies off from that set I got for Christmas), Under Quarantine (the Resserectionist expansion), Into the Stream (the Arcanist expansion), A Night in Rottingburg (a long adventure based around Ressurectionists), Norther Aggression (a long adventure based around Arcanists), and the following One Shots - Recruitment Drive, The Ferryman, Legacy of Darkness, Last Remains, In the Gutter, Honour Among Theives and Bad Blood. Not bad for $30us/$45au.
Looking at Into the Steam, it featured the Bandersnatch in its Bestiary. That was a surprise. I know Alison Dade and Amina Naidu, from Ripples of Fate, are characters brought over from Through the Breach (Alison from Defense of Innocence and Amina from Northern Aggression), but I had no idea the Bandersnatch was in the setting for that long. Makes me wonder what else they might consider bringing over. Into the Steam has Gloom Crows, which are corws but they're Woe. They have an aura that gives people negatives to social flips, which represents people turning on each other. Also they've got Sorrows Misery ability. Could make a fun unit for Pandora, a mobile aura that prevents Interacts. The Rigveda from A Night in Rottenburg would be an awesome beater for Ressurectionists. Visually, think of a Desolation Engine but all organic, no industrial parts, and a stomach mouth.
Recently twigged that after walking, Newcius (I'm making that a thing) can horrify himself into taking an extra action. And if that extra action is a walk he can then trigger Commanding Presence again on a new victim crewmate. So for the cost of a 5 flip he effectively has a pseudo nimble now.
And I just know that I'm going to manage to Black Joker it and paralyse Lucius every single game I try it.
It creates many amusing mental images.

This update made me curious about adding Lucius to my pool of Neverborn masters. Though Lynch is next up simply because I want to use him in a league we're running early this year.
The Other Side. More squad cards have been released, one of which is pretty drool worthy.
Abyssinia - Steel Legion. Okay, this is the usual 3 bases. 2 are 80mm 3 infantry fireteam bases, nothing special. The other is an 80mm based mini Titan with fucking Buzzsaw arms. And it can shoot those Buzzsaws. It's also the most expensive unit in the game at 12 scrip, or half of a one commander army. While in Glory the infantry can without penalty shoot into the same combat the buzzsaw murdermachine is in. Urgh.
Kings Empire - Grenadiers. Alright, it's hard to follow up a buzzsaw murdermachine. Grenadiers have grenade launchers. They blow shit the fuck up. And they're really good at it - in the first vassal report they really did a lot of damage.
Cult of the Burning Man - The Broken. These are a horde unit (5 models on a 100mm fireteam base, only 2 fireteams). Their abilities are around reinforcing themselves and milling your deck, which is pretty useful from a weak horde unit.
Gibbering hordes - Barbed Crawlers. These guys are one of the Hordes only native shooting units. They're also a horde unit, like The broken, on 2 100mm bases. Their shooting attack has a couple of uses outside of just damage. They have a trigger on a margin of 3 (essentially how many times over they beat the opponents DF flip) which lets another Fireteam within 8" move 3" towards the enemy fireteam. In Glory, they gain triggers that can drop enemy units out of Glory or let you draw a card.

Aaaand Champions revealed. The term Champion seems a touch misleading. It seems that the game has 3 types of units. Squad (consists of multiple models, either multiple single models or multiple fireteam bases, or a combination), Champion (single model) and Titan (single fucking huge model). So while they've been teasing these infantry sized Champions for a while, they're fairly underwhelming for that moniker. They're more like support units. They're all only 2 scrip.
Abyssinia - Rail Gunner. This dude is fire support. That's all he does. He's got a 30" range gun, can't charge and is pretty slow. When he Glory's his gun gets an absurd AV 12, which means it's rarely going to lose an opposed duel.
Cult - Breachling. This guy mills your deck by discarding the top two cards when he activates. When he Glory's he simply explodes, doing a decent amount of damage.
Gibbering Hordes - Egg Clutch. This is reinforcement support and a bit of card milling. When deployed they deploy anywhere on the board. Karkinoi can also spawn them. Their sole use is to be eaten by other units, which gives them a reinforcement token when you flip two cards and get any rams, and as per Gibbering Hordes allegiance card, also Glory's the unit that ate them. When they Glory, they can move a bit of a small attack and decent move and a friendly Lure, but they're still there to be eaten.
Kings Empire - Motor Scout. This thing is a fast harassing unit, and can self replicate when it is in Glory. Basically it's fast, has a weakish gun that pins enemies, and the gun can push it after shooting to keep it away from enemies.

on the Burning Man Breachling- BM armies get to pass out Shaken tokens when Aces hit the discard pile, that's what the milling is for.

I'm starting to get concerned that this won't hit any more stretch goals. It's just hovering at 260k-265k. I mean, I'm still happy with a Commander level pledge, but those free Champions and Adjuncts would be nice, not to mention the LE Bihn or Thrace.
Running it at the same time as Kingdom Death 1.5 just wasn't a good idea.

Kickstarters generally flatten out for the middle 15-20 days and then raise about 20-40% of their funding in the last week. For example.

It's different per faction. Gibbering Hordes devour a friendly fireteam (survival of the fittest). Kings Empire get it when they eliminate a fireteam (faith in their guns). Cult of the Burning Man discard shaken tokens (they're too insane to care). Abyssinia at the moment discard upgrades, but Wyrd seem unsure of that. They said they're playtesting having them Glory when they get a high margin in an opposed duel as well. Some units, like those Champions, have ways to do it outside of those mechanics as well.
Gibbering Hordes, Kings Empire and Cult have mechanics built in to make going to Glory easier for them. Kings Empire really dish out hurt at range, so it's not unusual for them to eliminate a Fireteam base. Gibbering Hordes recycle eliminated units by spending a tactics token at the start of a turn, and have ample ways to put reinforcement tokens on units. Cult have ways of adding Shaken tokens to themselves in addition to receiving them from the enemy. Abyssinia just seems to be in a weird spot where Wyrd are playing with it still.

I'm still pretty convinced that Wyrd set the buy-in price slightly too high; $300 for two players minimum (if you're not a retailer) isn't easy to swallow for a lot of people.
Even something simple like a low priced additional tier that had two squads of different factions and a rulebook might have encouraged more to jump in.

Simply because of how the game relies on commanders and objectives a better two player buy in would be a dual Champion set. $150 for a single rulebook and two Allegiance boxes.
Gives two people complete 1 commander armies each with a fate deck and all necesary tokens and a single rulebook.
I played my first game with Dreamer. Such confusion. Managed to start to figure out all the interactions though. Alps and Daydreams and a kids screaming at people. I dig it.
Now I have a Teddy and an intention to give hugs.

But yes he can be confusing to start. Lots of order of operations to get correct there.
Yeah I'm aware of the Daydream errata. I've also started by running a Chompy Dreamer rather than summoning because I figure that will be easier to learn with.

A good way to practice Summon Dreamer is to actually set up like you're playing someone and play out the turn.
Lots of little bits and bobs that trigger off of each other. For example look at Stitched Together (if you have them) with regards to giving themselves Reactivate after taking damage via their actions or Gamble attack (forget the name), while keeping them close enough to the Dreamer so that they heal themselves back up when they Reactivate so they regain Hard to Kill.
See also Lelu/ Lilitu shenanigans.

General stuff to add to The Dreamer is:
Teddy. You're obviously doing this already.
Insidious Madness. Scheme runners. 7" move and Incorporeal is surprisingly fast when you're ignoring terrain.
Stitched Togethers. General beaty minions with some interesting abilities.
Lelu and Lilitu. One is beaty and one is a control model with a Lure. They have an ability so they share heals and conditions if both are in n the table.
Widow Weaver. WP debuffer, can summon Wicked Dolls or a Teddy with some luck.
Bandersnatch. Harassing model that has a unique ability to hide inside other models and attack from inside them (it hides in their shadow).
The above will give Dreamer a good selection of Nightmare models that covers lots of different roles for both a Restless Dreams or Dreams of Pain Dreamer.
Also the Bandersnatch is a Fae and Lelu and Lilitu are Woe and Nephilim if you want to branch out.
Yeah I've grabbed Teddy and Widow Weaver, but Insidious Madnesses and the oogie Boogie men are on the list too. I have Lelu and Lilitu from my Lilith Crew. Bandersnatch sounds cool. I'll keep him (it?) in mind.

You can probably find metal Stitched and Insid Madnesses for pretty cheap, you just need the cards which come in the Neverborn deck.
Also take a peek at some of Pandora's Woes, as a few of them have some synergy with the Dreamer crew. (Insids pull double duty as Nightmares AND Woes)

After a long time trying to get my hands on the Neverborn models from the 2 player starter, I found someone selling it for 50% off (a henchman whose locals didn't respond well to it as a demo piece). So I'll finally have every plastic Nephilim model. Also bought a set of Will o'the Wisps from him that he bought and didn't want. I know they release this month, but it was too convenient.
Not sure what to do with the Guild stuff from the starter except add it to my growing pile of LE Guild models.

Last unit cards for The Other Side shown.
Abyssinia - Mechanised Infantry. Same idea as the Steel Legion earlier, a big mech supported by a pair of Infantry Fireteams. This one is ranged rather than melee. This makes them the only faction to have access to three different Titans, even if two are mini Titans. Gibbering Hordes and Cult of the Burning Man have access to two, but one is a Commander.
Cult - The Extraordinary Cases Bureau Black Ops. Skirmishers that don't have coherency. Main attack is a short ranged but powerful pistol. In their glory state they can form a triangle and all enemy models within the triangle take damage.
Gibbering Hordes - Speckled Crawlers. Melee horde unit. In Glory they get 2 free Reinforcement Tokens which makes them really, really hard to wipe out, and they can pass those to nearby models making units around them harder to take out instead.
Kings Empire - South Wales Borderers. Melee unit with steam augmented power fists.
I've always dug malifaux, but The Other Side does nothing for me. It just seems way less interesting than Malifaux which is pretty unique and does its own thing.
-Loki-Don't pee in my mouth and tell me it's raining.Registered Userregular
Well, the main issue they have is that Maliafux, right now, is starting to get a bit bloated. There's not much left they need to add to many of the factions. New masters is something they do with much caution, as they need to test combos with a lot of existing models. Essentially every new release makes a new master harder to get the balance right.
They've basically spent the last few years rereleasing everything in HIPS, which is where all the releases were coming from. They've caught up. If you look at the upcoming releases, it's gone from 6-10 releases per month down to 3-5 releases per month. And that will only get lower, especially with new books shifting to the more normal half a dozen models per faction.
So they had two choices. Keep going with Malfaux and ramp up additions to the factions and cause more bloat than was already coming, or, make a new game to fill out the releases every month. They went with a new game. Lets them keep Malifaux fresh but with the fewer releases they're doing per book while also still putting out new product for a different section of the wargaming hobby and putting a good amount of releases per month out.
Wyrd starting a new game isn't the issue, it's that the game they are making seems to be failing to press the right buttons for a lot of people.

I'm sure they're seeing that. But they're also adamant that they want to see how it does at retail, which is why they didn't offer much more than a (quite deep) discount in the kickstarter. The kickstarter has also bviously resonated enough that they are willing to put it into complete production after shifting some resources around.
I'm the opposite to some of the people in this thread; something about the art / style of Malifaux just (no pun intended) weirds me out and the only faction that appeals to me, are The Guild, with everyone in long trenchcoats and dapper hats.
Everything else.....skinless people, creatures that are inside out, etc....I recognise it all being very well done and unique, but it really doesn't appeal to me.
Conversely, I find myself very interested in the King's Empire, if only for the models. Everything arriving pre-assembled rather than being incredibly complicated / fiddly to put together is also rather appealing, what with my playboy lifestyle* where I have so little time to glue little men together.
*Playboy lifestyle may include a 4 year old daughter who takes up all of my time and who sneeks into my hobby room to play with my models. She particularly likes the ColorED Plastcraft scenery.
The style of the Gibbering Hordes seems awesome to me, but I haven't found any interest in the gameplay. I probably won't be backing but if I did it would just be for cool models.
Also maybe I'm in the minority but I actually like assembling models, the pre-assembled PVC models are probably not my thing.
Looking forward to a Newcius run tonight. Only a 35ss game and against a new player and their Rasputina box (possibly with an Ice Dancer thrown in, depends how frustrated he got when he met Malifux model construction).
Going Scribe, Dashel, 2 x riflemen, a Death Marshal and a Warden. I shall try my best to be instructive without being too unpleasantly crushing and only rifle battery something minor to death at first to warn him of the threat. Though to be fair I have very little clue what Rasputina can do.

Not sure what to do with the Guild stuff from the starter except add it to my growing pile of LE Guild models.
I would always enjoy more crews coming across though, maybe that'll happen.

Also maybe I'm in the minority but I actually like assembling models, the pre-assembled PVC models are probably not my thing.
