Thanks, all. Think I'll wait 'til it drops a little, I still have a million other games on steam I haven't touched. Eventually, though. Probably after Phoenix Point comes out, but eventually.
I am back on this forum after yet another extended break specifically to ask if WotC is worth the £35 Steam is charging for it. Yes? No? Wait for a sale?
I don't regret my purchase at all.
If anything, the game is easier, but definitely more fun. I just roflstomped Commander Ironman, but I think Legendary is still a tall order. The new options like Grim Horizon (Dark Events are permanent) or Beta Strike (everybody has twice the HP) add interesting ways to modify the experience without slamming your balls in Legendary's car door.
It's 100% worthwhile, though since you're paying the British overcharge price for it I'd wait for a sale I guess!
Like it is what made me come back, after not really doing a full playthrough with Shen's Last Gift and Alien Rulers. It does a lot to make the early/mid game much more interesting. The late-late "I have everything I need and I had it 20 missions ago but I'm going to research everything" game is still pretty boring but that's also kind of my fault.
The final team of absolute badasses. The Specialist up front had over 200 hack due to getting extremely lucky on the +20 hack rewards, she was basically Neo by the end.
Second soldier from the left doesn't have shoes.
Why don't they have shoes??

Maybe he (she?) wants to feel the visceral feel of crushing alien skulls under his/her bare heels. It looks like that kind of guy.

Hahah oh my god I made a poster for these two bonded squaddies and they look like idiots, they're posing in front of a crappy flames.jpg with their names on it in Jimmy Buffet album cover font, amazing

The fact that the global shot% is 89% is hilarious.

I missed so many 91% shots in this campaign, it's awful. On the other hand, the transmitter mission did throw up something great thanks to the little intel bonuses
that's more like it baby
(The scope and mag size bonuses are higher due to a regional bonus)
Oh, good, cause that's the main one I was thinking of literally as I hit caps lock to speed it up a bit.
There were also a bunch of bugs with the cinematics at times and shit like that.
Those are generally better, although sometimes you won't see exactly what happens during an action camera shot. It seems to happen a lot for me during Combat Protocol, but it's not something that's really game breaking.
I have run into some weird scripting issues with the tutorial, where you can exit out of menus that you can never re-enter, or open up menu windows that can never be closed.
I also get an occasional crash to desktop when using the shredstorm cannon on complex maps with a lot of enemies on them.
I'm having an issue where sometimes multi-attack stuff like Banish or Faceoff not every individual attack gets animated, but all the damage gets applied properly.
FYI the "weapon mods are more effective" continent bonus/faction perk is really, really good. A Skirmisher with +20% Aim, 4 free reloads and +4 bullets can really pound some ayys. It's a huge help for cannoneers, too, but I more prefer the superior stock, there.

It's made me want to get some Superior Repeaters. 20% chance isn't bad (especially when you have skills that let you take two shots in a turn), and in this playthrough repeaters have taken out Julian the Unfriendly Sectopod, various Chosen on multiple occasions, and the Berserker Queen on the second turn after she showed up.
Skirmisher with +Aim PCS and a gun with Superior repeater, superior hair trigger, superior expanded mags.
So many bullets, so many chances for instakill.

especially when you get two and have them inspire each other
Beat my C/I run! My girlfriend's character in the RAGE suit delivered the killing strike by punching that psychic into next week.
The RAGE suit is funny because while it's just a better WAR suit and that's nice, it's weird how tame that punch is. It allows for a bit of guaranteed free damage which is always nice but like 6-7 damage late game is just not super impressive for a single-shot item.
Also the end-game part was pretty silly because I had a Gatekeeper mind controlled that was alright but mostly just a wrecking ball that kept alerting 2-3 pods at a time. For all that those buggers are scary, I'd maybe rather have an Andromedon that can actually take cover and shoot at higher than 60%. Luckily my team could deal with 4 vipers, 2 Heavy MECs, and two Sectopods like it's no big deal.

the rage suit works nicely because of the free motion you get to reposition

Generally you want gatekeepers because they soak up a ton of fire. It's bullshit that you can't bring your Dominated buddy into the final fight now, though.
It's right up there with putting someone with Bladestorm right on top of a reinforcements flare.
Also works on Faceless, Chrysallids, Berserkers, and Andromedan suits.
Honestly, with Reapers coming in to take over the stealth work, all my Rangers have been mastering the art of the sword.
Plus you can go back to give them the few skills they need from the other tree.
Oh actually one weird thing I noticed: in the Radio Tower mission, my Reaper pal didn't have the benefit of Shadow, with the smaller enemy sightlines. they just had normal concealment.
I was hoping to basically Overdrive them to the point instantly, but I had to actually fight.

That mission is the one mission I reliably actually use the Wraith suit. Just get a Ranger withing sprinting distance of the objective, and run right through the wall.
Oh wow, I need to build that then. I'd assumed it would take people away for a few days.
Training Center is one of the best new additions to the expansion. It the first and main reason why your regular units aren't completely overshadowed by the faction heroes; your specialist can heal AND hack, your sharpshooters can be pistoleros while still being able to provide Long Watch cover if that is what the mission needs, your rangers can be sneaky AND slashy, and every grenadier can pack the extra grenade, regardless of speciality.
And that isn't even going into bonus skills. A sharpshooter can get Chain Shot AND Rapid Fire, for example.

I beat the base game today and...kinda went right back into it and was trying to decide between WOTC and Original Sin 2.

my ranger uses it to extend reaper/katana combos

They aren't.
Unless you mean RE-training to refund all their AP, which I think is 5 days.

You know what's even better?
When reinforcements drop and you position the Bladestorm ranger next to the drop flare, so they take a swing at every single ADVENT that drops in.
