Oh yeah and this game made me grab Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology. I have no idea what they've spun or changed for the game, but they did such a good job of making it all fascinating that I want to learn more about the real thing.
Lol I beat this last night and did the exact same thing

Read up on Ratatoskr and also the story of Thor, Loki, and Útgarða-Loki. That one is my particular favorite.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Gaiman's Norse Mythology is definitely on my reading list for this summer.
Btw, re: sequel talk: so great to have another series to really get excited about. Between TLoU2 and the sequel to GoW, I honestly don't know which would deserve more of my hyyyyype.
It's also cool to know that the "dabbling in other mythologies" thing (by which I mean the shift from Greece) means that anything is possible. Maybe the next game will show us
Asgard, or maybe it'd be held until a third game. If they do go balls-out with the sequel and we storm Asgard, that just means they don't need to hold anything back, and we can move on to another crazy mythology thereafter.
But I do think we'll be doing the Norse thing for a while now. Which is totally fine by me.
I swear, if I have to look up a Valkyrie skirt on more time before she snaps my neck in going to freaking scream.
Endgame:
I'm saving the Valkyrie Queen for last. Finished Muspelheim this weekend and played a bunch more Niflheim, but I STILL haven't found a single Anchor of Light. Heard a rumor that they may not start appearing until you take down the Niflheim Valkyrie - in any event, I did that, so I hope I'll start finding some Anchors soon.
Also did some Raven cleanup and whatnot. Have a couple of Valks left... will probably try to finish out Niflheim next, then collectibles and the two or so Valks I'm missing, then the Valk Queen. I love that the postgame feels like its own thing and isn't just collectible-cleanup for a few hours.

RE: Anchors —
You can definitely get them before killing the Valkyrie. Usually each instance of "the maze" will have a room with a Traveler and a bunch of other crap, and that room will have one of the Legendary chests with either an Anchor or some Aesirbane.
I was stubbornly attempting an optional fight for hours because it seems doable but is pretty unforgiving of mistakes. Once I felt like I had a pretty good idea of what to do and wouldn't get spoiled, I googled for tips.
Turns out someone says it's "manageable at 5, easier at 6", and I'm 4.... I thought someone said raising character level made the game harder?? That made me hesitant to do so because the next upgrades on my gear are like 1 point instead of the previous being 7-10 points.

The level is a show of how strong you are based on your gear. The level going up does not change what level the enemies are. You being stronger should make fighting the same thing easier.

Niflheim
the entire thing is a big loop. There are two arenas that split off from the loop. One will have the Valkyrie, the other will have a bunch of enemies. After you beat the Valkyrie they will both have a bunch of enemies. One of the chests in one of these arenas will have a mist anchor in it (sometimes). You only need 3 and you should have them by the time you have enough mist echoes to need all 3 if you check both arenas each time through.
I dropped to easy difficult for Sigrun and she was still a pain in the ass. The jump between the other Valkyries and her was crazy.
I've finished up everything except collectibles at this point. Man I don't wanna find all these ravens. The optional stuff was pretty fun. I wish Niflheim was actually a maze, it would be way more replayable if it wasn't just a big loop to run through.
I'm up to level 9, and based on the drops I've seen I think that's as high as I'm getting. Not sure if the levels go up more in higher difficulties or what. I've got maxed niflheim armor and infinity gauntlet currently. I guess I could find some higher level enchantments to get up to 10 but I'm not sure if they come much higher than what I've got on already.

From what I saw, armor maxxes at 9 (I was using the valkyrie set) and enchantments max at 7. With everything the highest I could wear and the full weapon upgrades I was about 1/5 of the way past level 9. I don't think 10 is possible.
My wife's Kratos is just so much stronger than mine, and she's only one story mission ahead of me. I love seeing her be able to just destroy stuff that gives me trouble. Guess I need to upgrade my gear more, stop wearing blue-rank armor!

Edit: For real, though, gear (and level, therefore) makes a HUGE difference in combat ability and power. I went back to some areas after I had leveled up a bit and instead of getting 2-shot, I was mopping the floor with dudes. Taking down Valkyries in one attempt during postgame after standing so little chance early on feels really, really good.
I told myself I would probably just lower the difficulty to Easy for mop-up, because I didn't want to bang my head against Valks, but it hasn't been necessary. Normal's been a "you have to pay attention" amount of challenge and feels satisfying.
I wound up doing the first two and a half challenges in Muspelheim before she had unlocked the location, and after cleaning up Lake of Nine, she went in there and mopped up. I struggled to get through those. It wasn't a cake-walk for her, but she could take like five or six hits before she'd be toast, whereas I had maybe two or three depending on the enemy type and attack.
Level is no joke in this game!

There has to be a small exponential scaling on lvl.
There are massive damage dealt/taken modifiers in play based on the level difference between you and your opponent, way more than the character sheet stats ever contribute. Raw level should always be priority before the character sheet.
This has been my concern. There are a certain few talismans with super nice effects, and some number of enhancements, but I suspect they may be dragging down my level because their stats aren't enough. If I'm on the cusp of a new level, should I try to tip myself over the edge by swapping in the higher level talismans etc?

Yes. Levels are better than witch time or what have you. Also the best Talisman in the game maxes at lvl 8 so you'll get there.
The game seems designed to push you to try higher level gear and gems so you don't settle on a permanent build
(Which is why the randomized gems seem a bit silly. Why would you ever produce them when you get insanely powerful unique gems in great numbers? I guess if you're just shooting through the story...)
Really the stats, skill tree and loot all end up being pretty meaningless... There's no real builds, the secondary effects on skills aren't meaningful, and you have enough XP to buy everything immediately... It's fun to see the numbers go up and occasionally there's a neat effect from a thing but beyond the character level none of it really means much in the end. The difference in the number stats is so negligible that there's no reason to ever use anything but whatever has a green up arrow on it.
the valkyrie in alfheim is an asshole. The health bar is blue to me but she has so many unblockable and undodgeable (or nearly so) attacks as to make it way frustrating rather than an interesting challenge. All the others so far were a fun challenge to overcome, this lady is dodging my homing axe runic attack. Twice, in a row. And also soaking a ton of damage with lots of iframes.
If the rest are like this I probably won't keep doing them!

Which is bullshit cause I rather have witch time then whatever the fuck.

This was the one that had me staring up the black void over and over and over and over.
And I swear the game does some bullshit health bar scaling cause that least pip refused to go down!

Okay the most infuriating thing just happened.
VALHALLLLLAAAA okay fine I have a rez stone, get over here atreus. Good yes, stab the rock. Okay and I'll stand up now and WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS THERE A LOAD SCREEN?! I guess he didn't get me in time, thanks overly long animation of a lady breaking my neck with her foot.
Alright complaining on the forums worked after a few more tries and got that one down. Very cathartic. Also did (post game)
the "going home" but and shiiiiiit that was cool.

I found it helpful to visualize Niflheim as a modified baseball field
Home plate is the first battle zone, and there are battle zones at first, second, and third bases. The area with all the realm tears is the pitchers mound. Each “base path” has a safe zone midway through. There are two more battle zones as well, one in right field and one in left field. Left field has the Valkyrie. Right field has a few tough enemies, the exact makeup varies. When you clear out right field there’s a chance for the chest to drop an Anchor of Fog.
Also, sometimes there will be Nornir chests in the “maze”. I think they appear in runs after you defeat enemies in right or left field. The one at home plate is opened by activating the correct spinny runes at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd bases. Look for them up high on the walls.
Nornir chests can also appear in the base path “safe zones”, in that case there will be a bell puzzle and all the bells are within throwing range of the safe zone.

Same thing happens to me. I’m pretty sure when those face kicking animations start, the game “knows” whether or not it kills you before you mash the button enough times, thus starting the timer on using the Rez stone way before you actually die.
13 ravens left, all in Midgard. Great let's walk back through the whole game following a collectible guide this is fun. Man i hate collectibles in games.

People like to 100% trophies/achievements, nothing odd about that.
The Midgard ravens suck ass too because of those untracked ones. It's one thing to scour an area looking for that last raven you know you're missing, but having to comb the entire Midgard map because they threw in a couple that could be anywhere is just the worst.
Bleh!

It's like "Ugh I hate punching myself in the face. It's making my face hurt so much! But that guy over there said he'd give me a thumbs up if I did and I like getting thumbs up from people"
I can imagine that being super annoying. I did a pretty good job of keeping on top of them throughout the story so only had a few obvious ones to deal with post-game.
I just wish they gave you something. At least some of the other collectibles (specifically what I will call the story cupboards) result in more story time during traveling.

That’s good, I was worried because I hadn’t turned my ps4 on in like 8 months and it instantly sounded like it was inches from death.
Guess god of war just hits it very hard. Wish the console was a little bigger with slower fans, I can hear it even with headphones on lol.
