Well if they're going to release at GenCon and all point and upgrades are app/online only, they are going to need it available, aren't they?
Twilight Imperium 4 released at GenCon last year and lots of people were able to buy it there. It wasn't available at retail until mid-November though.

By 'lots of people' it was 'those who literally ran to the FFG line as soon as the doors were open.' I use literally in its proper definition here.

It was available to buy every day, from what I recall.

There seems to be separate cards in each expansion with suggested builds on them for people who just want to play and don't want to mess with the actual points on the app. You just add up the "threat level" on whichever ships you pick to get your kind of balanced list.
So you say you guys are playing a threat level 10 game. One guy could have a list with a threat 5, a 3, and a 2, the other could be using two 2s and two 3s. Then you just pull those upgrade cards and go.
Personally I like it. I'll probably use it when playing with my dad since he doesn't care at all for the list building.

As someone who didn't go to the line until well after 1PM so I could try to get into the L5R event, and still managed to get a copy... This is a bit uncharitable?

I'm not even sure why we're talking about GenCon releases given that the discussion was around whether the app would be released on time.
I'm never surprised when software slips but I'm hoping they already have the app 95% finished and usable because tying the full functionality of the new edition to the app means you can't fuck that up.

I misremembered. I wasn’t interested in it personally, but missed out on L5R which did sell out immediately, so I conflated the two. It’s only valid to the conversation in saying that if you’re planning on trying to pick up the new Core 2.0 X-Wing this year at Gencon, get there early.
On a side note, I do like they're doing the GenCon In-Flight on Wednesday, so you could actually go to it and not miss out on your normal events that you're playing in.
Probably why it sold out already, with 500 tickets available?

It's interesting that the arc dodging of barrel rolls needed to be reigned in like that - having to line up on the hash marks on the new base, or the front edge / back edge. That, combined with losing your action if you can't actually pulling it off...
I think it was the interview Team Covenant did with all 3 lead designers that made me realize where they were coming from with that last rule.

Yeah. restricting it to just three locations makes arc dodging require more skill and not just disco slide around on the template until you don't collide.
That's cool. It probably only bothers me because the 4 full-circular engine T-65 design is ingrained in my brain. The single engine look makes me think of Z-95s, which always felt like "uncool, tag-along friend" ship compared to the evolved version of it in the T-65.

Just to really break your mind, in the X-wing Miniatures game they gave the Z-95s quad engines.

Going to the game store to try and snag a pre order. I want that sweet custom damage deck.
It also details the Bullseye arc a bit. It doesn't do anything inherently, but cards such as Predator (reroll 1 die if in Bullseye arc), Marksmanship (hit->crit), and Crack Shot (1 charge; spend a charge to cancel an evade result) require it.
I feel like Marksmanship may also be (relatively) cheaper?
Changing a single hit to a crit isn't that great. Really glad it doesn't eat an action any more though.
Also, what ship is depicted on Marksmanship? Is that a Star Viper?

Did the Tallon Roll let you float your base a little bit like the Barrel Roll did? If so, are they reigning that in as well?
What makes all the difference to me is that McQuarrie designs have square intakes that could lead to anything, even an impulse engine, while the actual movie designs lead to half of a turbine. Half of a turbine doesn’t work.

And the way they are handling 2.0 Alt arts is AMAZING.
the templates are double-sided too, 1.0 and 2.0.
Top 8, sadly.
That's the standard 2.0 template for straight 1 going forward.
The cross line mark is used for medium/large ship barrel rolls.

The threat level system means they could argue that it's a playable game with just the cards.
If they piss off vets, they are going to have a hard time moving copies of 2.0 I think
If you weren't aware, the split engine design was drawn from the Ralph McQuarrie concept art for the original film:

Can I please put it on Wampa?
Significantly better dials for both the ships shown as well.

Yes.
I imagine it will be like barrel roll where you can choose "centered", "forward", or "backward".
Edit: did it come up at all in one of the demo games? (I need to watch em still)
