Pretty badass split that I missed last year, ancient sounding Greek black metal, the Cult of Eibon EP before this was won I really liked the year before. Might go onto my EP/Split list for 2018. There are even some not-too-subtle references to Greek black metal cult classics here, like the fonts used on each side.
I've only begun to explore this one, but very cool, evil, atmospheric blackened death metal, partially from that Icelandic scene emerging from the last 5-10 years:
I'd also like to give this band some credit, metallic hardcore but they'll throw in some surprises like death metal breaks, thrash riffs or Gothic/doom metal vocals circa Candlemass or old Life of Agony (on one of their earlier EPs they even cover "At the Gallows End"). Not everything here stuck with me but they at least are trying to come up with something fresh.
Immortal's Pure Holocaust is so much better than I remember it being. It's like trudging through a blizzard and then all of a sudden being swept up into a razor blade tornado. It's freezing, it's pitch black, and now you're being shredded to pieces. There's no escape.

Uhhh... what's a "heavy metal choir" supposed to be?
choir + corpse paint
Done that.
Well, it was more barbershop quartet with corpse paint round 8/9 years ago close to Christmas (2010). We went around the front of house locations at the casino I work at and did stuff like King Diamond's No Presents for Christmas or Little Drummer Boy with death growls and me doing fills on a set of quads from my marching band days.
Damn. I need to see if I still have some pictures of that. I left my phone in the car that day since my normal work area is a no phone zone.

Alright you deep delvers, since I already had half this thing worked up, I'd might as well release it upon the world. Don't be surprised if a few of these eventually swap over to the top 100 list, I can think of 3-4 that might deserve it. A few others have really grown on me (Corrosion of Conformity being one) that I didn't think too highly of when I first heard them.
Yeah, Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone just seemed to appear out of the ether in November and quickly climbed my best of 2018 list to round the top 15 or so.
She kicks major ass. Although, I still need to check out her first 2 albums.

So what albums are people looking forward to in 2019? Alternatively, what bands have you not heard from in a while are you hoping release new material this year?
I'm hoping to hear new stuff from Black Crown Initiate this year. But also I wonder what's going on with Fallujah. I haven't heard much from them since their singer left the band.

I saw Fallujah with their new vocalist in 2017. I don't think they played any new material. He seemed a lot more energetic than the original guy when I saw them a few years ago.
I'd love to finally get this new King Diamond album. Maybe the new stuff from Hell, Candlemass, Manowar, Pharaoh, Crypt Sermon, Overkill, lots of possibilities. New Darkthrone?
I've already got the new Soilwork promo and was a little disappointed, it's not bad but so far hasn't really stuck out to me. I canceled my preorder at any rate.

Bummer. The last two albums have been quite solid.
New Delain EP/Blu-ray next month. Four songs of new material along with ten live tracks (and the accompanying live BD) from the tour they did with Marco Hietala on guest duet vocals in late 2017 that I sadly missed, so that'll be great to see. Full album most likely later this year if their usual release schedule applies.

Yes, I need this.
If they do get a full album out, hopefully it's no later than September, so I can try and wear it out before seeing them in October.

Lunar Prelude was a February release in 2016, and Moonbathers followed that August, so it's not unlikely a similar schedule could apply this year.
Their only UK show confirmed this year is the Download festival, which I can't do, so it's likely I won't get to see them again until next year
The schedule is a few shows dotted around the next few months, and most of those in the Netherlands, until festival season kicks off (and they're doing a ton of those), then the US/Canada tour takes up September and October so I'm guessing the album should be wrapped up fairly soon and hit in summer again.

It depends on what you're looking for.
Full Moon Shoals is kind of being poo-poohed, but man I think the songs phenomenal.
I've never heard of Delain before seeing that they are co-headlining with Amorphis. And I hells of want to see Amorhpis & Anneke, so is Delain worth checking out? If so gotta rec?

They are definitely worth checking out. They were founded by Martin Within Temptations original keyboardist and they write great straight ahead female fronted metal with tight arrangements and no over the top instrumental noodling. They also put on a very energetic live show and can always get the crowds going.
Charlotte Wessels their singer is a good songwriter and has a more jazz influenced approach than classical like a lot of other bands in the genre, making her stand out all the more. Basically she's if Diana Krall did metal.
Suggestion wise, I love the live album they put out in 2017, it ran their whole career to date and they were locked in. Although my favorite studio one they've done so far is a tie between April Rain and Human Contradiction.
Got the promo for YERÛŠELEM, which is basically the new Blut Aus Nord band, although I don't think Blut Aus Nord is going anywhere. Very similar to the BaN atmospheric, industrial metal style albums but with a few differences in the mood and vocals.

Now I'm imagining 30 King Diamonds in choir gowns

1 King Diamond is already almost too much awesome.
I think I'm approaching 50 myself. I can't seem to get through the day without going through the song 4-5 times.
Also, Martin Wallström is a beautiful man

Of all those albums, the only one I picked up was the Haunt album.

Watching the video dude wants screamers/wailers to try out for the choir.
Interesting
Edit: and that Sylvaine album.

I'm sure they'll fullstream it after release.
