Valve slaps Wandersong, a very real game, with fake-game restrictions
Developer Greg Lobanov tells Polygon that Valve first flagged Wandersong when it launched in September; that its veracity remains under deliberation is a surprise.
“I figured it would clear soon, since, I mean... the game is obviously real ... and other games I checked that had launched just before us had passed ... so I left it at that,” Lobanov says about the lacking Steam features, which first came to his attention in October. An automated message from the platform’s support services assured him that all games went through this process, he tells us.
He now knows that’s not quite the case. Even as user reviews climbed, pushing the game’s review average to “very positive” (there are only three negative reviews out of 269 at time of writing), the Steam version of Wandersong remains at Valve’s mercy.
We’ve reached out to Valve about if and when it will determine whether Wandersong counts as a legitimate game. Lobanov isn’t especially optimistic about that happening — “the algorithm guides all decisions and no human will intervene until the algorithm deems us worthy” — but at least he has critical acclaim and several nominations to write home about.

Played through Edith Finch. That was wonderful, really rich and creative
And just about the right length. It wraps up before it starts to overstay its welcome. Just a well realized, well executed game through and through. Feels like they nailed what they set out to accomplish.
Eh, they were real late with Steam integration (achievements and so forth), and I got Odyssey on UPlay simply because I got a better deal. Division seems relatively low-risk compared to AC, FC and Siege though. Either way, I think Steam will inevitably have to court devs with better conditions, and that's a good thing.
I'm still skeptical about Epic though, some stuff in their client wasn't GDPR compliant ("click here to NOT receive spam", for example), and the whole "curated storefront" approach seems like a big step backwards, because it looks like it's big budget and known indie/b-devs only.

Ace helicopter pilot, brain surgeon, concert pianist, motorcycle racer, secret agent, and all-around nice guy? I can't decide if this is awful or amazing.

I wonder what percentage of revenue a publisher has to get from a digital store to make up for what they must spend on developing and maintaining their own digital storefront/infrastructure
is based on a CGA-era game, and at one point the character "saw the portal in front of him, changing colours between white, magenta, cyan, and black". Just for complete authenticity.
I know I had a couple of those WORLDS OF POWER books at one point. I'd find them from used book stores when going with my parents. I don't know if they got donated in one of the culls or not. But they were something else.

Ah, one of those Fake Gamer Games.
Also the Epic Launcher is giving that away free starting tomorrow so no one has an excuse not to play it.

A ton, they are very popular with kids.
Similar thing with Fortnite stuff, too.
They would be if they could stop flossing.

Finally I have material for a "back in my day" story.
Back in my day the video game companion novels we read were for games that actually had a story to begin with!
I have an entire series of Gears of War novels.
Wonder what this means for Ubi games in general.
this was as close as my parents would let me get to owning a nintendo

The real mine was the friends we crafted along the way.

I'm positive that Blaster Master was one of them.
my grandma actually went by Jimbo when she was young
I remember really liking it as a kid, but 90% of that was because you could get into and out of your tank/car.
