I was right there with you until I remembered it's Thursday and I have to come back to work tomorrow.
I have had no days off since last week and, excepting next weekend, will have no more until June so I highly sympathize, it's hard to keep up in light of jerb

the night king doesn't need a motivation, the night king shouldn't be considered a character at all! he's a force of nature!
what he represents is the living's unwillingness to put aside political infighting to solve a collective action problem. a satisfying repudiation of such would be all the remaining factions banding together to defeat him. but since that hasn't happened, the only reasonable and satisfying conclusion will be all of Westeros succumbing to the Long Night. maybe some wealthy families and notable characters flee to Essos, only to be captured as slaves or otherwise treated poorly as the unwanted and burdensome refugees they are.
