knitdan imagine if they made terrible afternoon soap operas into a prime time show
that's really all you need to know
It's like Melrose Place if everyone was rich instead of pretty.
Fun fact: I used to love Melrose Place.
I submitted an entry to Lego Ideas, and if 10,000 people support me, it'll be turned into an actual Lego set!If you'd like to see and support my submission, follow this link.

Dallas was often a hell of a lot of fun, as well as being ridiculous and vapid. JR is one of the best, most enjoyable villains TV has ever produced.
When he was shot at the end of one season the tapes of the first episode of the next were flown over to the UK via Concorde by Larry Hagman and the event made the evening news. No one had a clue who did it, as the only way you knew what was happening in US TV shows was if you went there and asked somebody who'd already seen it. The answer to the question that gripped the nation was: wait, who?
Piling on the late-to-the-show opinions, we finished Season 1 of Fleabag last night and that show is way more entertaining than it has any right to be. The perfect amount of cringe without going too hard and losing the joke. I originally thought the 4th-wall stuff was going to be jarring, but they did an excellent job of incorporating it.
Excited to dive into Season 2 tonight.
Also finished Season 1 of The Expanse and it's every bit of the ride I expected. I still think they need to ratchet up the pacing a bit, but then again I'm about 3-4 books deep in the series, so I know the background of most of the characters already.

Amazon Prime seems to be down for a lot of people, making it so you have your viewing history but nothing is available or you have to rent it.
I am planning to dive into Marvelous Mrs. Maisel S2 tonight, and if anything gets in my way, there will be hell to pay.
HELL. TO. PAY.

Everyone can relax, I successfully watched S2E1 of MMM without incident.
It was great.

With the 4th wall stuff she says more with knowing smirks than anything else
Marvelous Ms Maisel was so close to being a show I loved.
barely a season 1 spoiler but just in case
But they just had to keep going back to depressing family drama and depressing cheating husband and depressing etc etc. I have so much trouble with these kinds of shows (reminds me a breaking bad, another show that was too depressing for me). I remember after the first episode or two I thought to myself "thank god they've finally written out that shitty husband character. Glad I won't be seeing him again!"
But nope, no luck. If the show had been about her ditching her old shitty life and working her way up as a comedian straight off, I would have loved it. But the comedy thing was always playing second fiddle to her horribly sad family life. Perhaps it changed in later seasons.
I didn't find the drama in MMM that depressing. There were certainly sad elements, but it struck me overall as a positive show, and I actually like where they took the Joel character.

Wheel of Time on Prime (https://twitter.com/WoTonPrime) has released casting choices for the main characters. If I read correctly, mostly unknowns and in it for the long haul. Arstechnica says production starts this fall.

Maybe depressing is the wrong word, but it seemed like nearly everyone in her non-comedy life were terrible people that I wouldn't want to spend time with, yet the show insisted that we spend lots of time with them.

Just watched the new invader zim. Strong start, kind of drags in the middle (like rocko) and finishes pretty strong. Its a middling to good extended episode.
But man, like 80% of the shots are gorgeous to look at. "Every frame a painting" really applies here.
Edit: It showed me a trailer for a new series called cannon busters and I swear it's just Trigun-Bebop...

Huh - Mat looks almost exactly like the mental picture I had of him. Moiraine is on the old side, though, she's supposed to be strangely young-looking for her bearing and attitude. One wonders if they're going to CGI the agelessness onto the Aes Sedai
