A&W's stuff is pretty heavily seasoned, I'd be real curious to see the ingredient list. Harvey's burgers are pretty tasty, but I found them to be pricey. That said, you can get extra pickles on the side which is always nice.
I find the higher end McD burgers to be really unimpressive. The angus, the chicken w/ asiago one they had.
We have a few sites that are 30 to 50 minutes out of town, and I tend to hit an A&W on the way back home - one thing I will say is their stuff is a goddamn disaster waiting to happen when eaten in a car. Like, Taco Bell in a car bad.
A&W has really solid rings tho, and they're enormous. I do like them better than Harvey's.
I'm not even sure this can even be blamed on Jagmeet really. People just don't seem to care about the NDP anymore, the media especially. There deosn't seem to be any oxygen in the room for them anymore.
Exactly. Most people get their political information from the news, and the news pretends the NDP and the Green do not exist while treating the PPC like a political powerhouse. As a result almost a quarter of Canadians are silenced and ignored, while a tiny 1% are given undue influence over the nation.
While that's true, especially in print media, the only parties that seem to be actually saying anything anywhere near where I am are the Liberals (who are actually knocking on doors), the CPC (who are flailing about parachuting a cowboy hat into a nearby riding that displaced a bunch of local potential candidates), and the PPC (who are trolling cultural festivals).
I know the writ hasn't actually dropped yet, but in previous years we'd at least hear occasional attempts at outreach from them beforehand.
There's a chart a few pages back in this thread following those endorsements back across the last four elections and it's kind of amazing how monolithic the print media's gotten.
I wonder how much more blatant Postmedia's going to be about it this year. (Or Brunswick News, for that matter..)
I am guilty of posting several NDP negative things in the last week here but it's not malicious. I am genuinely shocked at what's happening.
There is definitely some valid criticism of how they've been conducting themselves. I don't feel like any posters here have really been unduly negative.
Yeah. I'm supporting another party this time around at least basically out of short-term self-protection, but beyond that I really want the NDP to be a much bigger force on their end of the spectrum.
As is, between their disorganization on one end of the spectrum and the right's glomming on to Trumpism on the other, the country's Overton window is really not in a good place right now. Someone needs to be putting "you know what Scheer and Bernier want? What about the actual opposite of that, as opposed to just not that?" out there in a way that people will actually notice.

How anyone can honestly believe that the press in this country (or most other countries for that matter) is too liberal has always baffled me.
The press might have been...20 years ago, before the rich conservatives realized that they could simply buy up the papers that didn't go bankrupt. The old impression has lingered, even if it is no longer true.

The people at the ‘top’ know it isn’t, but they’re playing the refs. Keep claiming they’re too liberal and they go even harder right to compensate.
The average conservative voter repeating this on Facebook takes their cues from those people, and because unfortunately reality has a liberal bias that even the hardest spin can’t overcome without going full Rebel media.

I dunno, I can see the CPC leaders sincerely believing that, especially if they're defining "liberal" as "insufficiently loyal to the Conservatives," itself defined as "criticising or fact-checking them in any way, ever."
Harper would complain about things the tiniest bit to his right as "socialist" even in closed-door meetings with other party high-ups, after all. Some of the other things that get pounded on for months might be that kind of theatrics - I assume people remember when the CPC spent most of a year describing any opposition anything as "coalition" - but I do think even the guys on top really truly believe the media is run by "the left" and needs to be reined in.
It's definitely a lot blurrier these days, which higher-ups on the right know it's just the company line, and which are true believers. One of the side effects of bombarding your supporters with propaganda for so long is that eventually some of the ones who bought into it run for office.

I honestly wish I had a reason to vote for them. So far they are a disorganized mess and I consider myself fairly informed.... Definitely more so than Joe Public and I can't tell you what their platform is.
I honestly would be more inclined to vote NDP as I find Singh running as a party leader and a POC is super good for the country.
Beyond meat burg at A&W is delicious. I still get buddy burgers with cheese though because where else can you get a burger with carmelized onions for $3 ?
A&W has Beyond? I might have to try theirs out.
From my experience, Impossible has been better tasting than Beyond, but they're so fucking expensive where I can get them here.

They're for sure still doing it here in AB, it's my wife's go-to burger since she's gone vegetarian as well.
Between you and me, Peggy, I smoked this Juul and it did UNTHINKABLE things to my mind and body...

I've not gone vegetarian, but I have limited myself to one meal of beef per week from a resource-consumption standpoint. It's literally the least I can do, and a drop in the bucket, but yeah. Impossible/Beyond let me have "cheat" days. <_< I'm just waiting for the price to come down and I'll probably abandon beef altogether outside of special occasions.
Hoo boy. Apparently that neo-Nazi soldier who disappeared after the Winnipeg Free Press uncovered him a couple of weeks ago hopped the US border with a cache of weapons, just in case that whole fiasco wasn't enough of a mess to begin with...
I think the NDP may just be returning to their pre-Layton place at the federal level. Mulcair tried to keep the momentum going and he did actually seem to get coverage but after their loss last election and the change in leadership the party has seemed to sink back into the background where they used to hang out.
The NDP have released a new ad that will be airing in Quebec. Mostly a pretty standard, "Making yourself more familiar to the public", political ad, but also seemingly aware of one of their main hurdles there.
(Also, WTF at Singh's justifying never setting foot in New Brunswick with "it's a big country, but I did live in Newfoundland as a kid.")
I mean, you can't hold things from a Beaverton article against him. That would ...
Wait, that's from the real article?
Come on, Singh. I'm an NDP supporter who actively wants to like you. Let my probable vote for your party be enthusiastic, and not accompanied by a shrug.

Doug Ford's latest awful bullshit: coming up with a way to get people to unthinkingly give an unlocked phone to the police.
Have you ever needed to show your proof of insurance in a hurry but you couldn’t find that little pink card?
hmm, no? Because I always keep my proof of insurance in a pouch in that little compartiment under the radio, like absolutely everyone else, so it's always easy to find and within my reach.
Saddest part of tims is that I had so many good memories of them growing up as a place that I would go to get a cup of hot chocolate and a donut on a cold wintery day, and there was always a wonderful variety with some other pasteries (eclairs, cookies, brownies ect.) thrown in for good measure.
But since they've switched over to these god awful sandwiches the quality of the original fair has dropped like a rock; I get a real sense that some of them were made a week ago on an assembly line before they were sent over, and even their hot chocolate has a dull taste to it that is at best on par with some of the local bottom rung burger joints in my area.
Back when I was still giving them the benefit of the doubt at a few of the THs here the hot chocolate would occasionally have nothing in it - literally just a cup of hot flavorless water.
It was kind of depressing since they used to be a staple both snackwise and emotionally, and now they're basically in a death spiral. When 3G's finished wringing whatever they can from what's left it's just going to liquidated or otherwise tossed aside. Yet another generations-old institution destroyed by Next Quarter's Profits Exceeding This Quarter's Is All That Matters.
Tims was good 30 years ago. They used to have bakeries in the stores, at least some of them and made donuts fresh throughout the day. Back then they had more competition too, at least in SW Ontario - Country Style, Global and Robin's.

My buddy worked there all during high school making donuts and would show up with fresh ones for us most days.
At least to me the downhill point was when their new owners stopped making their goods on-site as opposed to trucking it in from centralized bakeries. It's a kind of super-explicitly-stated "we'll sacrifice a lot of quality to save money" that makes it pretty clear where things are going.

It’s worse than that, many locations imported baked goods instead of baking. When Burger King bought out Tim Horton’s they changed to a cheaper supplier for their coffee and baked goods which is when their quality took a nose dive. McDonalds now uses their old supplier which is why McCafe has taken off
God, Alberta politics have really gone off the rails.
Alberta politics are what happen when you base an entire provincial identity around an unstable commodity, and then steadfastly refuse to face reality at any point.
Man, I wasn't going to vote for Trudeau due to the corruption scandals and what not, unless the conservatives were looking super scary.
The conservatives are looking fucking scary.
Sure people might say it's not the federal conservative party that's doing these things, but the fact that Doug Ford dismissed adjourned the Ontario legislature because he was hurting the Conservative polls shows that the federal and provincial conservatives are one and the same.
