    The brawl is commander.

"Brawl" is a format; the event is in the Brawl format. It isn't like Hearthstone where Brawl is the term for a wacky custom format

Well then I was confused by the fact that the commanders go in the command zone when they die.

I like adventure as a concept but I hate it because of the confusing GY interactions it will bring.

It doesn't interact with the GY though

Ok, my question is that when the thing is in my GY, what does it count as? Can I target it with a spell to recast an instant/sorcery and then cast the creature from exile afterwards? Even if the card is exiled by the effect of the card I cast it with?

    Here's the Gavin Verhay quote:
“One of the really cool new mechanics in this set is called adventure”, explains Verhey. “This represents how the various knights and characters of the world go out on… well, adventures! You can tell which cards are adventures from their very unique frame that looks a bit like a storybook. You can always play a card for it’s normal mana cost, in the top right… Or if it’s in your hand, you can pay the adventure cost and send it away on an adventure! It’ll do the effect in the adventure textbox, you’ll exile the card, and then you can still cast it later on. It’s a great way to get extra value out of each and every one of your adventure cards!”

It's a creature card with a special condition that allows it to be cast as an instant/sorcery, and then a second special condition that allows it to be cast from exile.

So you'll be able to reanimate it, but not flash it back.

edit: oh there's a mechanics article now.

Brawl is basically commander but with only standard legal cards i believe

While Beanstalk Giant is on the battlefield, just ignore the Adventure and all its text. While the card is in your hand, your graveyard, your library, even exile, it has only the characteristics of the creature, not the Adventure. For example, if you cast a spell that lets you search your library and find a creature card, you can find Beanstalk Giant. But if you cast a spell that lets you search your library and find an instant or sorcery card, you won't be able to find Fertile Footsteps.

    Ok, that answers my question.

I assume that this event is WOTC's attempt to make an event worse than the Scapeshift Landfall event; they've somehow succeeded.

Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

This brawl event gives you a free Mulligan and after that you get the regular London Mulligan so I just get aggressive with it until I get a nice hand. Preferably some ramp or some way to draw cards. I've only played the knights deck so far though. I've gone 2-1 and both wins were by swarming the board and having some equipment out.

See, I would say that the fairy deck is the best because it has the most cards that can just go fuck your commander they are now a 1/1 frog etc.

While racing light mechs, your Urbanmech comes in second place, but only because it ran out of ammo.

Yeah I went 6-3 pretty effortlessly with the Faeries. Angelic Exaltation is dumb in that deck. I'll just cast a bunch of cheap artifacts/enchantments, generate free 2/1 fliers, and then attack you for like 8 in the air with lifelink. And deathtouch, if you could block me, which you can't, because at least one of those enchantments was removal.

All the decks I played were pretty good, none of them stood out as terribly broken really.

The real issue is that since these are the brawl precons they have a mix of relatively strong synergistic cards that form the main engine of the deck and a bunch of weak filler cards that, if you were able to modify the deck, you’d immediately replace. This makes for a lot of variance between draws.

    So mulligan aggressively

Well, just hit a bug in the Brawl where it wouldn't let me cost my 8 mana commander even though I had the mana for it. Knight deck.

The Brawl win percentage percentage from about six hours ago via MTG Arena Tool ad on:

    Knights: 239-410, 37% win rate
Savage Hunter: 226-272, 45% win rate
Wild Bounty: 197-242, 45% win rate
Faerie Schemes: 408-296, 58% win rate

I will say that I played 3 out of the 4 decks and Faerie's felt like the best deck. I saw each deck do absurd things, but Faerie's seems more consistent and the numbers back that up. With the Knights, many times I had my opponent almost dead, then they would stabilize and I'd die. Having so many tap lands in an aggressive deck really hurt it.

The knight deck has a really, really, really easy way to get card advantage and to suddenly do 20 damage on a hasted asshole you never saw coming

Brawl being a rotating format it its weakest aspect by a mile.

Historic Brawl should be a thing. It won't be Commander but it's the best Arena can do.

especially when they introduce a Knight commander that cheats equip costs, but comes in as the best equipment cards gets rotated out. Oh well, that's what EDH is for.

I think Drowned Secrets is the most direct replacement? It's cast rather than draw so not quite as good but it's (I think) the only non-creature-based mill passive
