I get my stimulus money finally tomorrow but by now all the parts for a new PC are all being gouged by third party sellers. So much so that a build that would have been around 1100 which I could swing, is now closer to 2000, Which I don't have.

Just bank the money and wait a few months, it'll go back closer to normal.

Save it and upgrade when things get better.

If things don't get better, then you'll be glad you have that money.

Well, that's still a basically competent rig. You have a good amount of RAM, which makes up for a lot, and that's a decent video card.

Maybe see if you can get a 250 or 500Gb SSD now? It really makes a startling difference in general use. I take it that your board doesn't have an NVME slot? Even a 2.5" SATA will be a very perceptible upgrade over any platter drive, and you can repurpose it when you do your "real" upgrade.

IMO, going from a platter to *any* SSD is a much larger upgrade than going from a SATA SSD to a NVME SSD.

  • V1mV1m Registered User regular
Yes absolutely, although I suspect that software has barely started to really take advantage of NVME's capabilities.

Sony are making a big deal about their super fast SSD in the PS5. Maybe we'll see improved techniques, I dunno.

However I love my EVO 970 boot drive, and I wouldn't want to give it up. Going from POST to password in 5 seconds is something you get used to needing really quick.

yeah, I'd just grab a decent 1TB SSD on sale, even if you don't use it as primary on the next machine, it will make good storage.

Re: topic of this thread, can someone explain to me how the timer on my microwave suddenly started going up instead of down?

Like, I have the kind with a gauge you turn and it rotates back to zero. It's now increasing instead.

Buy higher end, name brand stuff, don't get the cheap knock offs

This actually makes sense to me.

"You put the food in cold, take it out hot, and eat it."

Just like, run through google translate twenty times.

edit: also "of in"=oven but "of out" ≠ oven

    that is an excellent point
jon's posterior is rounded and smooth with no obvious rectal opening
we must therefore assume it is completely decorative and excretion is handled elsewhere. It is possible he possesses a discretely positioned anal pore somewhere else on his body, but my preferred theory is that Jon's internal organisation consists of a single gastrovascular cavity, and Jon is not human but perhaps an unusually complex mutation of flatworm (further evidenced by his lack of visual ageing in the last forty years). In this essay, I will -
