((Also @Mrpaku - going back and checking, you crit irah during that fight. do you wanna roll another whatever d4 and tell me what damage i take? It's going to be between 2-0 given i was raging at the time, but it'd still be good to know!))
OOC: Thanks for the catch, Penguin! Hopefully I've ironed out some kinks in battle flow- should be a little more streamlined next time. We'll all get the chance to find out soon! 8-)
Oak watches the backs NDA forth, and grunts at the mention of his name. Irah was allowed their own opinions, and while Oak trusted the gut feeling he had to work with the Baron, Irah was free to choose otherwise.
"Right then, glad you two worked that out." Oak walks over and opens the door.
"Hmm," Urixes grunts as Rax scurries off. He shakes his head, then walks back to the infirmary. So Reynard's trusted friend was the fool by the fountain? It's starting to seem like everyone is more than what they appear.
Urixes strides into the room, giving everyone a quick start and then an immediate moment of relief. The group collectively catches their breath. Reynard is just about to say something again to Urixes when three more men follow in just before the door swings shut...
Alkono recognizes these as known men of the crew, and no immediate reason for alarm. Oak nods and they all return the exchange. These guys are a little fancier than most of the other pirates...get accused sometimes of "putting on airs". But so far you've personally known them to be stand up individuals.
"Ey, glad you got back safe! Hugo just sent us...turned out to be more injuries below ship than we'd thought!"
"... friends...," Reynard attempts feebly from the back...
Before you've even realized it, two of the guys have *wedged* the cabinet into the door frame as the other one steps aside Oak in an effort to momentarily distract him. "Come to help the Baron!" He says to Oak, giving him a cheeky grin. He's holding a knife.
Geth roll 1d20+2 Jasper
Geth roll 1d20-1 Bobby
Geth roll 1d20-1 for Sein
Anchor-Irah
Bear- Oak
Wolf- Jack
Alien- Arno
Starfish- Urixes
Osprey- Alkono
((Actually, seriously thoguh - Alkono was outside, and i mentioned looking through em. No way to use alkono's advantage on perception checks to see if i saw the threat comming, and got advantage on my initiative, or was ready to go?))
OOC: Not in this particularly specified instance, no. DM saw Alkono peer at the door. But Alkono has been watching pirates you know rush by every which-way since you first got aboard ship during the fish melee. If they stopped you to let you know previously perceived friendlies were in the area everytime they had come within six feet of the door, it never would have left you alone today
((@mrpaku for future fights, if everyone's cool with it and updates you when things change, why not just roll init for everyone to speed things up? I guess the argument against would be of somone wanted to try and stop a fight breaking out))
Jack leaps off the bed with a yelp of surprise and excitement. There's totally gonna be a murder, he called it! "Man, you guys sure have a knack for attracting trouble, huh?" Yes, it's everyone else's fault.
Even with his limited insight his gut recognises a fight when it sees one and this is a fight! His eyes quickly scan the room for a good spot.
OOC: The DM is good rolling up Initiative for unavoidable fights as long as everyone else is. Only issues I could see would be: like Penguin said, skipping over non-violent resolutions (this has happened a couple times already); or ruining the surprise prematurely, like on the way out to Arnishian Rock; or, like yesterday, when I wasn't positive if Irah or Urixes would be joining the scuffle
A promise is a promise. Jack moves to stand beside the gentleman (i4) and pulls out his light crossbow, indoors feels a bit cramped for a longbow, "I'm glad we came here armed is all I'll say."
He takes aim at one of the intruders, closing one eye and looking down the length of the weapon with the other, "...crap, I can't think of any appropriate puns."
((OOC: Chill, it's fine, everyone will pile onto the caster, plus you get to roll a save on each of your turns anyway, and then you get to have your revenge on the butthead once you're free ))
OOC: "Hold Person" debuted in the Player's Handbook in 1978. It is a famous, and not out-of-the-ordinary spell. Your character failed a check against it. Twice.
Okay, let's get reeeal OOC here for a second. There is one PC at this point in the game, who frankly demands 95% of the DM's time. Whose suggestions are mostly framed as demands, who seems to be more interested in running this game rather than playing ir, who I've frankly seen treat not just NPCs rudely, but the players themselves. When I get PMs from this player, I go from my original default of "completely excited to run this game!" to "fucking exhausted running this game".
This game was originally framed as "let's tell a pirate story, with a DM who's *brand new* but eager and learning, and it will be rules light and story heavy, but please teach me because I love to learn!" This has been hijacked by an individual who seems less interested with "story" than "winning", and less interested with "collaboration" than "me, and me, and then mine". Frankly, I'm fucking done with it.
I don't relish calling people out, but I also grew up in a *very* shitty household, and have highly defined limits around this sort of shit. It is *one person*, among seven. I now officially, politely ask that person to fucking knock it off right now or please leave the game. I am a grown ass man, currently dealing with 3 kids, a dog, and a wife who just got fucking cancer. This game is my *escape*, and you're infecting it with you toxic, selfish bullshit.
I'm aware of the tone of this message, and the concept of "DM calls out a PC". I would, in 100% honestly, love for this game to continue in it's present form...just not as another problem for me to mediate. I'm gonna take a couple days off now. The group can discuss all of this...if you guys want to move forward as a group, I've said my piece, and will act accordingly moving forward. If not, I understand,.and please know I have thoroughly been honored and priveledged to have you play in my game!
((okay. I've clearly massively dropped the ball on how I'm playing/handling myself, and I'm sincerely really sorry about that mrpaku. Serious apologies. If you'd rather I bow out i can. I am genuinely mortified to have caused you the stress and upset))
Oak growls as the two men confront them and Jasper slashes at him. His growl grows louder as he starts to transform, his eyes becoming fully black, his teeth growing longer, his nails growing into claws.
He swings back at Jasper, brining the sword down with all his might. These men are attempting to kill someone he had said he would protect, on a ship they had all signed on to serve. It was offending Oak on multiple levels at once.
OOC: Shifting, so AC is 18 now and get extra temp HP.
Geth, roll 1d20+5 to Attack swing
Geth, roll 1d8+3 from Damage
Geth, roll 1d6+5 for TempHP
Zombie, you can stick around, just dial it back a bit. We've handily taken care of everything thrown at us this far, so I don't think that we need to worry about combat efficiency being perfect. Lean more into the story than the math and you'll be fine.
Like Glal said, NPC casters find themselves targets super fast, so you'll get your chance. I'm expecting it to happen to all of us at some point, that's a kind of how dice fall sometimes.
We can rebound from this super easily if we all cement back to Story first, rules second so let's all get to having fun with that and let MrPaku give us the pirate story they are going after.
((well, either way my apologies to everyone again - I feel I've badly misjudged my time and how I was coming across. I was Def frustrated this morning, and that's on me.))
((OOC: All good! I'm just here to experience a fun swashbuckling tale on the high seas with my dumb wolfboy, bad stuff happening to him is fun for me ))
((for me, bad stuff happening as a result of my actions is fun, getting disabled at the start without getting to make any choices that lead up to that being disabled is immensely frustrating. Like by comparison, if I'd chosen to smack a trap and it has hold person'd me as we started a fight, I'd fine that genuinely hilarious, because my actions directly lead to the bad result.
Difference in expectations, I guess?
Either way, I handled that poorly and that's on me. Sincere apologies))
Okay, having taken the day to think about things - I'm going to bow out folks. I think what i'm looking for and my expectations playstyle wise are a very bad fit for what Mrpaku's trying to run.
Thanks for having me, please remove Irah and Alkono from the game and dont keep em around as npcs. They're my characters and i'll save em for some other thing.
