=/ I know Biden's trying, but he tripped a bit over that transgender protection question. He was trying to be supportive, especially to transgender persons of color, but his stutter came on hard as his mind tried to think of the right words to say, and it came out a bit cringy/muddy. Heart's in the right place, but that'll upset some people.
Yeah, you could tell what he was trying to get across but his language did not serve him -- in particular he ended by mentioning "a man who became a woman." But for the most part through the questions I think he's done well. Lots of quick answers and detailed information.
So Biden's town hall is longer it seems? Trump's wrapped up at 9/8 while Biden's is seemingly going til 9:30/8:30.
I actually checked out the Trump town hall a couple times while Biden's was on break. For the poster who asked, he sounded pretty much normal to me in terms of his voice/health. I was very happy that when I tuned in Savannah Guthrie was repeatedly pressing him about being in debt, who he owes money to, and only paying $750 in taxes. All with a smile on her face. I think I kinda wish she was moderating the next debate.

What exactly was so bad about his response? Asking legitimately, I thought it was fine, but I'm also not the target audience of that question. He didn't seem to say anything I would consider cringy and correctly identified the ladies child as a daughter?

It seemed okay to me given this is a white guy in his late 70s his answer did not make me cringe and seemed reasonable. I think some of his wording was probably a bit out of date but not unreasonable.
Well I don't recall Democrats campaigning on abolishing the electoral college and the Senate
I mean the National Popular Vote compact is doing alright at the moment though it's not a huge national-level Dem thing. With a few more legislatures flipped it could become a legit reality by the next election.

If there's no electoral advantage in running on that platform, they bloody well shouldn't.
They shouldn't be taking unnecessary risks of that nature; they should be playing it safe so they don't spook the people who would otherwise vote for Biden this time around.

It's a town hall, it's a place for people with anxieties to ask the president to reassure their anxieties. The question from a self-described progressive is no dumber or smarter than any other question that gets asked at these things.
Questions can be bad, that other questions are equally bad doesn't make something that doesn't make sense a good question. I mean I'd say the same if someone asked Biden how can his presidency prevent aliens from invading.
I'd like to know how someone believes electing Biden harms progressives.
I think it stems from the attempts to win over Republicans upset with Trump. The concern is, if Biden wins the presidency, the Democrats will believe that is the winning strategy and begin catering more to the right and Republicans rather than progressives and the left leaning portion of the party.
what if it is the winning strategy.
then we're left with one conservative party and one blood-and-soil death cult party, and nobody in office to advocate for anything left of center-right
i have no problem letting the Democratic party become the de facto conservative party if they can be replaced by an actual leftist party, but that ain't happening anytime soon
I cannot imagine anyone think of the Democrats as a conservative party, even in a future where a national unity party emerges.
it's this extremely childish notion that anyone who only mostly agrees with me is no better than someone i completely disagree with
progressives move the Democratic Party and the Overton Window (granting the spurious notion it exists) to the left every single election and then a subset cry about how the Democratic Party is no better than Republicans when it comes to progressive issues because they won't promise to burn down all of western society and replace it with a utopian commune
Allegedly a voice of reason.

To end the night George asked him about COVID testing before the next debate (in response to to Trump being questioned by Guthrie and being unable/unwilling to say if he was tested the day of the last debate). Biden's answer was pretty great.
He said he's being tested every day, that if he had tested positive he wouldn't have come to the town hall because it's about decency, and that he's not worried about himself so much as people like the camera crew and the secret service agents bringing him over.
Nobody is forcing Democrats to do evil things, actually.

On Obama's PSA interview, the former President brought up how he was always late because of Biden. They'd do the meet & greet lines, and Obama would finish, look back.. and see that Biden was only 1/3 of the way through. The man really does like talking 1 on 1 with people.

Yeah he seems like my own father who would talk anyones ear off and move on to the next.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I watched a little bit of the Trump townhall, but I mostly fast forwarded through it because I can't stand to listen to him speak.
One voter asked him about the rushing of the SC judge and asked how this time is different from the Garland nomination.
He said the usual BS about how "qualified and awesome" Barrett is, and then the moderator asked about Garland (bringing up a Trump quote from 2016 on how the nomination should be delayed). He said it was different now because of how "poorly" Kavanaugh was treated.
So that's his reasoning. His guy was treated poorly, therefore he can do whatever he want. The Dems were mean to him, so he's being mean in return.
More evidence for the Toddler-in-Chief name....

I don't see how.
Even with an expanded big tent the median voter theorem would still place the Democratic pivot points in Congress well left of center. Much like it did following the '06 and '08 waves. A more secure majority would allow progressive policies to more easily build off of their own successes, though. Rather than having to rebuild the arson of empowered Republicans. Same as any other period of progressive Legislating in our history. Social Security was absolute shit in its first incarnation. Then it was expanded by subsequent Democratic majorities.

I honestly thought it was supposed to be a complement until I read it was from a Trumpster.
Yeah how inhuman and out of touch do you have to be to think comparing someone to Mister Rogers is a sick burn?
Especially when the entire media cycle has been dominated by trumps callous disregard for his fellow man and recklessness with infecting people. I guess they’re just leaning into it.

Yeah how inhuman and out of touch do you have to be to think comparing someone to Mister Rogers is a sick burn?
Every so often someone in the GOP tries to villainize Mister Rogers.
I imagine their thought process is akin to "If I kick this puppy SUPER hard, people will think I'm a hero!"
It just plays into their values, they think someone who was selfless and lived the life he claimed to lead was a sucker and should have been having 6 wives and screwing porn stars while his wife is pregnant.
Honesty is not a virtue for the GOP.

It’s an offshoot of the “I’m just saying the hard truths, fuck your feelings!” mantra. They think the more vile they are and the more people are outraged the more “objectively right” they are. It also feeds into their racism, “hey it’s just science that black people are inferior don’t shoot the messenger”

The problem is that every time the Democrats get in power their first step is to stop the bleeding and repair the damage caused by the Republicans, which means by the time the next election happens, we're lucky if we're back to where we were before the Republicans got in power. That lack of forward progress infuriates the progressives, so they refuse to participate, leading to the Republicans getting back in power and destroying everything again. Rinse and repeat that refusal to participate over the past 30 years and you can see how we're at where we're at.

Samantha Guthrie nailed him hard with that.
