Hopefully the same thing that usually happens when a new set drops - the meta shakes up a bit, people move on to new decks or variations on older decks, and so on. There are usually enough new decks or big enough variations on older stuff that things at least feel less repetitive for a while.
Is Kaladesh not a new set? Speaking of, I don't know that I've any cards from it in Standard.

Kaladesh is new to Arena, but not new to Magic -- it came out in 2016. It was released on Arena specifically for Historic, so you'll never see it in Standard.

Also, there'll be a hugely overpowered Mythic that needs to get banned about three weeks after the set's release. :P
I finally broke down and built a rogues deck. It cost me all of 10 uncommon wildcards the the version I net decked.
Turn one of game one, I am on the play.
Me - swamp, go
Him - plain, go
Me - play Thieves' Guild Enforcer on his turn
Him - scoop
I am never going to play this deck again.
Even as someone who was looking forward to building a rogues deck as soon as spoilers hit, I'm so sick of rogues that if I'm in the Play queue I will scoop the second one hits. And I frequently play with a deck that's quite strong against rogues - the games are still too repetitive and unfun at this point.
Fuck me, this prompted me to look and see that Kaldheim isn't due until February. Guess I'll be sticking to mainly historic, limited and special events for a while.
Hey, I would never play rogues in the play queue. That's just rude.

Considering most of the top decks in the meta rely on cards from Thrones, I'm really hoping we see a huge meta shakeup.

Thrones isn't going anywhere until October.
Wait, Throne of Eldraine isn't getting cycled out of Standard when Kaldheim comes out?

The October set every year is the cycle set.
Oh, ok. Last time I was in to Magic was Kaladesh, so I guess things have changed even more than I thought. So, when is the next rotation then? September? And what gets cycled out?

Because 2021 is going to see 4.5 set releases - what with Innistrad Werewolves and Innistrad Vampires being two sets that are also one set -, it gets a bit unclear when rotation is going to happen, but it's definitely going to happen around the launch of one of those Innistrad sets.
And I believe the ones to rotate out will be Eldraine, Theros, Ikoria, and Core '21.

The four oldest sets, or basically, the sets released in the previous calendar year.

Everything up to Magic 2021 will be cycled out IIRC.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Nothing has changed since Kaladesh.
They experimented with Spring rotation once, and the victims there were Khans of Tarkir/Fate Reforged IIRC, getting kicked out when Shadows Over Innistrad was released. They told us ground-level feedback to that was insanely negative, despite the "Metamorphosis" plan being nearly universally lauded online (including by most pros) when it was announced*. So they walked it back and Battle for Zendikar/Oath of the Gatewatch got to overstay their welcome (and possibly playtest time) instead of getting booted with Amonkhet's release the following year.

On the one hand, the current power level is relatively quite low since we're in the smallest format Standard has, but on the other hand Throne of Eldraine exists. So it'll be interesting to see how much impact Kaldheim would have.
I would expect a lot, but I could also see it being disappointing.

What's so broken about Throne of Eldraine?

It's just higher power level than most sets. With the bans in place there's nothing "broken", but stuff like Adventures are just a step above most cards.

Specifically, just off the top of my head Eldraine provides:
Adventures
Payoffs for Rogues with Drown in the Loch and Into the Story
Embercleave
Questing Beast
Almost the entirety of mono-green Food, which exists to prey on Gruul, which is 60% Eldraine
Doom Foretold
Powerful sideboard/maindeck color hate, mostly recap melee and mystical dispute
A decent number of solid Yorion flicker targets
E: Like, there are multiple meta decks out there that are basically just Eldraine cards, lands, and a couple of flex slots and the sideboard.

I guess I'm low enough ranked that most of what I'm playing against is Rogues or Zenith Flare.

And this is after all of the Eldraine bans. It's just wild how strong that set was compared to everything around it

Ugh, I just tried to imagine equipment designed to work with planeswalker cards. Like, Equip X, Equip only on a planeswalker, and it gives...an extra loyalty ability? That maybe they can use in addition to their normal one each turn? And for balance reasons most of them it would be either a 0 or a minus cost.
Deal damage to creatures that hit them equal to loyalty or something? I dunno, most things that equipment does walkers wouldn't give a fuck about
You could do a lot of stuff with Planeswalker equipment. Adding new loyalty abilities is one options. Adding passive effects, both ones that affect the board like in WAR and ones that affect the PW themselves -- "At the beginning of your upkeep, add one loyalty to equipped PW." Even passives that modify existing abilities would be viable if niche -- "When equipped PW deals damage to any target, it deals three additional damage to that target."
Now, whether you should do any of that is a different question.

Planeswalkers are rare enough and powerful enough on their own that they don't really need equipment or auras that benefit them.
You'd much more likely find a negative planeswalker equipment than a positive one.

Exactly, I was just struck by the idea of Tibalt, and equip, and my mind started doing its dumb thing.
I presume, in fact, that most planeswalkers that have identifiable equipment cards in the art are at least in part using that equipment as part of their loyalty abilities, in fun and unique ways that mundane creatures couldn't.
Well...fun might be pushing it, for the Shadowspear.
If anyone was thinking about playing in the Standard Shake-Up event and would like to actually know what's been removed (on top of the cards that are normally banned), I have complied a list since there isn't one written down on any official WotC site that I could find:

So they're shaking up Standard by just making every deck Dimir Rogues/Mill?
Well, at least it's free.
Rogues loses STS and Borrower, but yeah mill is definitely still viable with Crab, Tutelage, and everything else. Surprised they went with STS and not Enforcer.
Although I only ran into one mill deck en route to my four daily wins; they had a T1 crab, T2 Passage, and T3 scoop when I killed their Crab. *shrug*

My games went Mill > Mill > (I switch over to mill because fuck it) Dance with the Manse > Mill Mirror
I just played Yorion since nothing from that deck was hit.
Almost every opponent I got was some flavor of yorion, and I tried sticking with it for all of my daily wins in hopes of variety.
I gave up on that idea though :P
It feels like the matchmaking is using the same algorithm it does for the Play queue as opposed to ranked. The kinds of decks I was getting matched against would come in clusters that correlated to the decks I was using.
So, I only played against one Yorion deck, no rogue decks and no mill decks even though I played 15-20 games. I saw more Lurrus decks than anything else.
