I am not entirely sure I understand the premise of Luca just from the trailer.
"Oh no we can transform into sea creatures but this mean old fishing town has a history and culture of being a fishing town and that means we are toast if people find out". I mean, I don't think they are going to kill and eat a pair of talking, sapient kids just because they become scaly in contact with water. The movie isn't set in the Middle Ages.
So I see Dave Bautista, and click on the trailer, but then seen Snyders name and immediately turn it off, because why even bother with his stuff anymore, its just not enjoyable.
I thought people really liked his dawn of the dead? But yeah, with snyder cut going on, where is the time for this? Seems fishy.
Also I just figured they are officially getting the casinos money out as security, and vegas/strip was walled off and abandoned. Guessing they turn the power back on for locks/generator when they get there?
I liked the DOTD remake though it falls apart at the end. The old film leaves you with a small glimmer of hope and there's fun in the fantasy of having a shopping mall as basically a big safehouse, hence Dead Rising, but the Remake is obviously bleak and only gets bleaker.
That remake opening is amazing but I skip a lot of it because it's so freaking tense.

They're mermen of a sort, and killing and eating a sapient mermaid to attain eternal life or something similar is a common story. I'd be willing to be Luca's plot will have something similar going on.
I dunno why I'm spoiling my thoughts on a trailer but why not

they're sea monsters and the town thinks sea monsters are evil

I do think the remake is more consistent with the reality of the situation (fast movers vs slow walkers)
Also it's got Phil Dunfy being a complete asshole.

There's a reason they don't have parents or adults of their species around(could just be summer vacation/summer migration). They are also kids in that situation, which can lead to fears and misconceptions based on tons of things. Pretty sure this is just a racial/culture clash allegory.
They make friends with a local girl, and the town is full of imagery of killing their kind. It's like visiting the city hall in parks and rec and seeing gigantic murals of genocide on the indigenous people.
They clearly were going to change the Baltimore stuff and it looks like they went with John gets revenge after an organized, international hit and his mission is going to end up coming out of that plotline
It looks generic as so many movies, but I like Micheal b Jordan so I'm in!
What bugs me the most is that tired trope of "oh, kill the wife of the protagonist so that now he is motivated". Sure, its based on a book - but come on, find some new motivation for your main characters already.

The Rookies is china crap, it's why the CGI looks so bad and they ruin cool stuff like the cars tag teaming the little car and spinning it around. You can also tell by how non-english her lines are (if you accept it, you can't retract it). But it might be better than that terrible Charlize Theron The Order movie.
Without Remorse could be good if Michael B. Jordan goes full Gerard Butler, plus it's going to be free on Prime. Dafoe is best John Clark.

Part of the problem is that people thought John Wick killing thousands of people over a puppy was an anomaly rather than the future of cinematic revenge motivations.

Eh the trope goes back like the length of written history. John Wick was it just sharpened to a fine edge, and even then it was at least interesting in that they killed an animal and not a loved one.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

The Old Guard? That was really good tho
Or is there a movie with her called the order that I'm missing
No it was The Old Guard you're correct UwU, it was just too long and bloated and I cared about no one in the film. It feels like in The Rookies Mila is going to be some super old lady in this Order and not just an Agent K type character

Oh, no, you misunderstand.
I'm saying people are gonna have to to start using Does the Dog Die? wayyyyyyyy more often.
Then someone will make a movie where somebody's chameleon gets slung by its tongue into an oncoming semi and they'll be hailed as an innovator.

I think John Wick pulls the trick off because the movie is slow to reveal the monster that he is and has be unwittingly unleashed. While the emotional pathos is a man getting revenge for the last vestige of his dead wife and normal life, but the tone is more more like someone solving the Lament Configuration.

It works because the action is that good really and we all just want to see Keanu do more of it.

But John Wick, especially the first one, is more than just that. I has good world building and interesting characters.

If it was liam neeson jump cuts instead you wouldn't care at all about the world building and characters. It's all on watching Keanu murder dudes in an unrelenting fashion. Its like a Jet Li martial arts film, yeah there are deeper ones, but as long as Jet is busting fuckers up you're on board.

It's funny because I couldn't tell you much about Kiss of the Dragon or Romeo Must Die other than a good scene or two but I could edit the plot wikipedia for The One or Black Mask or that one where Jet Li was a dog in a cage that the guy from Who Framed Roger Rabbit owned.
I still remember the name drop in Romeo Must Die being one of the more hilarious ones.
"Sorry Romeo, but you gotta die."
I've always assumed Kanye was referencing this in Never Let Me Down
I think he was referencing the movie in general, as opposed to that specific line. But the for real best part of that movie was the complete and utter lack of romance in what was supposed to be a loose adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Like, the have a tepid hug at the end of the movie. That's it.
