The steroid stuff they gave me for my breathing issues seems to be helping a bit? Like even just sitting around and not walking to much I seem to be breathing better? Hopefully that'll help them find the issue.

If steroids are helping then it's an autoimmune issue.

What? No. It means it's immune related, but not at all necessarily auto immune. It could absolutely be environmental exposure.

"Autoimmune issues" include things like allergies and asthma, Uriel. It's not something to freak out over.

Not at all dunk, just correction, auto means self in this case, so some allergies COULD be auto immune, but your reaction to pollen/other foreign things is decidedly not.

Ah ok. Yeah. I'll probably just stop posting about it for a bit unless something big comes up that's an actual diagnosis from a doctor.

    No big deal, turk.

Honestly it just initially I googled what munkus meant and you know googling medical stuff is a bad idea in general especially for those of us with anxiety disorders...

The immune thing makes me think maybe I need to clean my CPAP machines better somehow though? Maybe I'll invest some of my stimmy into one of those ozone cleaner devices to really make sure nothing bad is getting in there.

Yeah I don't know why my message ended up being declarative to that degree, I had meant to say "likely" and had already edited my post.

most ideally as everybody's immune system becomes trained to respond strongly quickly by the vaccine, the virus is unable to create sufficient viral loads to spread to new hosts and the virus can't jump to a new host and dies out.

The virus is zoonotic and therefore will never die out, sorry. If every human gets vaccinated, it can still spread in animals and be transfered to humans that way.

The Flu is zoonotic, small pox was not.

Fuckin' bats man. It became the joke answer in our virology course. "What animal..." "whole class says bats at once" I don't know if virologists or immunologists have any real clue why they seem to have so many things we can catch compared to other animals, or if we are just in closer contact with them then we realize or what, but they need to get their shit together. Cute little bug eaters need to work on their immune systems or something. Get some acai in their diet I dunno.

I think the thing with bats is they don't need to work on their immune systems because the diseases they carry aren't particularly harmful for them for whatever reason, maybe because of their high body temperature or something.

Someone explain how to get into comic books to me. I want to try to read the immortal hulk.

Marvel Unlimited has a seven-day free trial where you can read all the digital comics you can binge, and it's ten bucks a month after that or $69 a year (nice.)

For The Immortal Hulk in particular, check your local library. If they subscribe to Hoopla, you can read all the trade paperbacks for free. You only get 5 or 8 or 10 borrows per month, depending on your library's subscription, but you can work your way through them over a few months, and the interface is pretty nice for digital comics.

Please be careful about weighing in on medical issues. I know a lot of us have experience dealing with the medical community, but the amount of information you're gonna be working on here is way less than anyone should feel comfortable speculating on.

I want to say one of the reasons why bat-bourne illnesses tend to be so nasty is because bats have a particularly high body temperature due to, I dunno, being bats? All flapping around n shit, having to eat like 20,000 mosquitoes a night. They're basically constantly in a fever state, so whatever little critters get inside them and don't immediately Terminator 2 thumbs up melt become like, the Marines of viruses.

Which is why people are generally discouraged from eating and or interacting with bats in general.

Also maybe pangolins? I gotta be honest I never really paid too much attention about where this shit came from. Something about a wet market and then I heard "bats" and at one point "pangolin."

I thought the problem was that bats had an amazing immune system, because nothing they get seems to bother them.

So partial good news? BC has accelerated the first doses of vaccines, so looks like I'll get my first jab sometime in May

The not so great news is that they're pushing the second dose out to four months, which means I won't have the total package until September :/

Yeah, it means that, with partial protection inside more residents, case numbers should nosedive which means community transmission will also nosedive and some normalcy will return during the summer

but it also means that, without two doses and complete protection, it'll take longer for international travel to be a reality.

It's not ideal, but I'd rather not get sick, personally.

Hell yeah. Once again, the answer was libraries inexplicably giving away valuable intellectual property for free. Even we have no idea how we still get away with it, we're just happy nobody has managed to stop us yet.

My tribe's done a really remarkable job handling the pandemic (and now, the vaccine rollout), so this could have been so much worse. But any loss was still too much, and I'm glad to see some ceremony for those lost.

Also, man, that fourth picture has given me quite the collection of emotions.

Partners parents bought us really good BBQ today, I had a take home box of brisket and spare ribs, left it on top of the car, realized it while still in the neighborhood, so we turned around. Busted open all over the street.

You know that horrible pit of despair you get in your stomach when you have like a bad breakup or a pet dies? I'm having that for spilled BBQ.

Over the weekend we adopted a new pup. Meet Samwise!

Our older puppy is Sprocket they're both spaniel mixes, but very different mixes! Sprocket has Pomeranian and Tibetan spaniel heritage, Sam is dachsund and spaniel.

Oh also the Georgia eligibility opened up so the partner and I are getting our first Pfizer shots this week!

I have some bad news, folks. Samwise turned out to have come with some unresolvable issues when it came to possessiveness which led to him injuring our other pup. Both are okay now, but Sprocket sustained a pretty bad scratch on his lower eyelid when Sam took a swipe at him. We were starting the work of training him out of his defensive behavior (he is a rescue from a hoarding household so he probably didn't get enough attention before now) but we couldn't risk a more serious injury. We brought him back to the foster home last night and they will arrange for his future home to be a single-pet household.

It was a rough note in what has already been a very bad week.
