Man, watching the latest Nick Knacks about Looney Tunes, and... I am very, VERY surprised that Warner Brothers has managed to survive this long as a media empire. They just seem to keep making really bad decisions.

They're not the only ones. Disney made similar bad calls during the Dark Age, leading up to the hostile takeover attempt in the 80s.

the thing about running a big company is that you can make terrible decisions and walk away largely unscathed
It's a real good comedy bit, but just in case it's not clear to someone, that's not an actual news story/the actual attendant.
They do a number of interviewed by the local news style things although about a real thing that happened.
oh my god I am watching a twitch stream and someone in the chat talked about missing vine and now chat and the streamer are talking about vine like it's super old like myspace or tamagatchi
I'm fucking old.
I'm not old because the kids say Vine is an old thing.
I'm old because I never understood Vine in the first place.

the long pause as the dentist held the comically oversized fist against the dude's forehead and finally says "36.2 degrees" is one of th funniest things I've seen all year

I'm fucking old.
The other day I got to hang out with extended family and TikTok came up.
Me and my cousin who is slightly younger. Like 28. We were like "it's like worse vine" and my younger cousin said and I quote...
"Vine was a little before my time" and me and my other cousin turned to dust
Occasionally it hits me that my youngest niece, who turns 12 soon, has never had internet access that wasn’t measured in megabytes per second, and WiFi.
Then I get nostalgic about getting a phone line installed in my bedroom so I could download at 5kps all day.
I could download an entire episode of a show every day !

Half want to send this to my dentist, half don't want to give him ideas.

I'm right at that age cutoff where people not much younger than me have expressed surprise that I remember a time before home internet was widespread.
I was really fond of the show growing up. Watched it a year ago and found the narration very frustrating. It doesn't gel with any sort of play-at-your-speed model.

The experience is...harrowing.
trying to explain the earliest days of the common web has got to sound bonkers to generations just like one high school cycle younger than me even (kids that where freshmen right after i graduated). first, you'd have to have a computer, which was not a given if you didn't have a parent that needed it for work. then you'd need to probably buy a modem, a thing that cost almost as much as the computer. also most likely you'd need ISP software, which most of the time came in the mail, no not e-mail you didn't have that yet you're not on the internet yet; no i mean the post, the grandma's birthcard delivering ass mail needed to send you a physical version of the save icon with 98% bloatware and 2% the internet on it. also also you can't use the phone while you're online, what a cell phone, what are you Gordon Gekko no one can afford one those your house has one phone line.
the next generation:
the internet is like water, it comes out the wall on demand basically
now:
literally harder to find most appliances without the internet of some kind and basically a one foot cube of air anywhere in a place with modern infrastructure probably has more bandwidth of data traveling through it than the entirety of the atmosphere of earth in 1991.
