On the one hand, woo Russians get a decent anti tank weapon.
On the other, IIRC historically they didn't have many US bazookas?
I'd have rathered they were given satchels. I don't think they have a single satchel class, which would probably make more sense. It's just a bunch of high explosives on a fuse.
Also, fucking hell they locked the flamethrowers behind level fucking ten support. I'm never going to get to roast people.

This is not the Ukraine thread at all.
I had a brief moment of extreme confusion.

Playing a few rounds of this after a month or so absence and man, it's tough to get back in to.
Then I play a round where I manage to weave my way into a point we're having trouble with, take out the enemies forward OP and the whole squad with it, then also push right into the point and start killing, which distracts them long enough the team manages to push up and take the point.
A New Era Begins
In our first Dev Brief of the year, we're sharing some exciting news about the direction of Hell Let Loose in 2023
The start of 2023 brings change, excitement, and anticipation to the world of Hell Let Loose.
We’re closing out winter by bidding a fond farewell to the team over at Black Matter, as they prepare to move on to their next project.
We thank them for their dedication to bringing this incredible game to life and wish them all the very best in their new endeavor.
What can players expect from Hell Let Loose this year?
While it might appear quiet on the frontlines, we’re certainly not missing in action. Over the past few months, we’ve been busy building a brand-new Hell Let Loose studio, consisting of veteran developers who have worked on numerous AAA titles.
The new team significantly increases our development resources, allowing us to prioritize quality of life improvements across all platforms, before launching some exciting new updates to the game.

Curious to see how it goes.
Maybe they will finally fix some of the performance problems.
I’ve been getting back into it and it’s still as fun as ever, so hopefully we don’t get dumb shit like battle passes or a battle Royale mode.
edit - sounds like the last 12 months of updates have been the new team under BMs watch.
“The last twelve months have been bittersweet for us as a team. We've been thrilled to see how our colleagues at Team17 have picked up the reins with such incredible enthusiasm and attention to detail, but we're also going to miss working on the title.
There's still plenty of opportunity for Team17 to fuck it up, especially since they've been going all in on NFT shit. I just hope they stay the course for this one.
Finish up the British forces and their respective maps, then move on to new theatres like Africa and the Pacific, and if they must go the paid expansion route, preferably find a way to have those playable without owning the expansions so the player base doesn't fracture.

So the new development team posted a video going over what's coming this year and beyond. Some great stuff:
British in June. Mentioned Fireflys, Sten Guns and Bren Guns, which is all obvious stuff to add.
Polish and Finnish forces in December, Winter War content.
New smaller map format for shorter games. Maps talked about are Brecourt Battery (smaller section of the existing map) and Danzig Post Office.
Each year they will pick a year of WW2 to focus on, this year is 1939.
Also Steam Deck compatibility for those that want to shoot Nazis in the face on the train going to work.

How much has the game changed in the last 6-12 months? I don't mean change like "have they fixed the stuff that made it dumb and bad and I actually mean have the redesigned it", but has it had enough stuff added to be considered a major step up in content or anything?

The last 12 months has mostly been handing over to the new development team, an in-house Team17 team. British were meant to release last year, but were pushed back to this year.
However, they did release some new content.
2 new maps - Remagen (US and Germany) and Kharkov (Soviet and Germany), added a few new ways to play the existing maps (reversed attack/defend roles and moved some Warfare maps to Offensive mode and some Offensive maps to Warfare). Also night mode for some (all?) l maps and a Flare gun for some roles.
They also did their 'Fire' update which added Flamethrowers to Support (at level 10 so only real long playing vets have them) and Molotovs to the Soviets, plus all fire does pretty bad damage, including fire elements on terrain.
They also added Jeeps (which I've honestly not seen used ever but seem great for recon teams so they stop stealing whole transports), MG's on Half Tracks (I think? My only experience with them is blowing them up) and a few new Commander abilities, the biggest being a Precision Strike (US - 2 P47'sm bombs, Germany - single Stuka, bomb, Soviets - IL-2, rockets) which is great for knocking out an annoying tank.

latest major update for Hell Let Loose came out today, adding two new maps, new faction (British) with new weapons and vehicles, as well as QoL stuff like non-verbal communication options (good for me since I never use a mic)
They're a little vague on the changes - faster running is great, but what does the bolded part mean? Or is it redundant?
I'd love if this included an auto-run button... no idea why HLL is missing that very basic feature, and it drives me nuts since a good chunk of this game is 'get to the front line'

I never really have issues with running long distances. I just pick spawns closer to the fighting. The occasional time I can’t I’ll sit in the spawn queue and make a cup of tea while someone puts a Garry or OP down.

Wow, so the new movement speed feels good. I hear a lot of the usual places whining about losing realism, but the old run speed was just... ugh. I also like dive to prone which I've used a couple of times.
Played El Alamein once and yeah... this map will take some getting used to. Still haven't played the British yet.
Biggest plus for me is they've obviously done a lot of optimisation. I had v-sync off because I never needed it, I was never getting near 120fps. Now my FPS was hitting 200+ in places? So I threw v-sync on and I get buttery smooth 120fps with almost everything on Epic settings.
Whatever faults you can lay at the new team, if you don't like the new map or the British implementation or the locomotion changes... they understand the Unreal Engine to a level Black Matter never did.

I tried Battlebit, but it's actually much more of a military sim type shooter than Battlefield (I found movement kind of sluggish, VERY low TTK means you get sniped by campers constantly). It wasn't for me, but it is nice though to see indie multiplayer games come out like Battlebit to such success

Not sure I’ll try it, I’m not into low-fi polygonal graphics. But sure, this is the thread to talk about it.

I just did my first full round as squad leader and that was fun. I’m gonna stick with going squad lead for a while.
Squad leader and commander to a greater extent can be really rewarding.
My best moment as commander has been calling in accurate artillery spotted out by a squad leader that allowed them to clear a trench and push on an objective.
i've finally figured out the trick to a positive k/d ratio in battlebit which i assume real soldiers have known since time immemorial. Make sure i'm never in the first group into a point o.O
Anyone playing Squad after the Infantry Combat Overhaul?
I've been trying to get back into it this weekend, but in true Squad fashion, getting a good Squad/SL is a crapshoot and I'm still not comfortable enough to lead in Squad (as I can sort of chew my way trough on HLL.)
Still managed to get a few amazing moments defending a position that was getting assaulted and mortared while a couple of SLs directed the effort.

I still cannot get into Squad.
Any time I've tried lately, even on newbie friendly servers, I get immediately kicked from squads for not knowing what I'm doing. If I spawn in and say 'hey I'm new, what are we doing?' I get kicked even faster. Also, I still cannot get the hang of identifying friendlies/enemies. Because it takes a few seconds to slowly fade a players name in to see it in blue or green to know they're friendly, enemy players who have been playing longer have a few seconds advantage to shoot you.
I get that it's trying to go further on realism and you should know what each side looks like, but given then amount of different militaries represented and the often long range of the firefights, experienced players have a huge advantage over new players. And again, I get that I just need to learn it and get used to it, but that brings me back to my first problem of being kicked from squads for not knowing what I'm doing, which results in getting kicked from the server for not being in a squad.
I still prefer HLL's method of just putting a grape or blueberry over all friendlies visible at all times. I always know who to shoot and who not to shoot.
Speaking of HLL, I finally got Support rank 8, so I have the Flamethrower. Now to get Anti-tank rank 8 to get the new Russian profile with a bazooka. After that I still need to unlock Commander, Squad Leader, Tank and Recon profiles. It's only taken 540 hours so far.
edit - but, knowing there's been an update, I'm reinstalling Squad to check it out again.
For the getting kicked out part: I wouldn't (always) take it personal. I've gotten kicked out of squads within 10 miliseconds of joining, way before they could stablish anything about my (non) awesomeness. So I wouldn't consider that them being unfriendly, just bad timing.
As for enemy ID: yes, that's my main issue presently. I've been minimizing the need to ID by basically keeping tabs on the map and figuring out if the direction I'm looking at has any chance of having friendlies. Hell, I once merged into an enemy squad (because I thought they were friendlies) before realizing they were enemy and killing them all.
There's also currently a bit of a bug where you don't get all the friendly tags when looking through a PIP scope if they are blocked by any bit of wall or anything.
But still, it's a very rewarding game when you have a squad that talks and a leader who leads. Yesterday I had a game where I was basically spotting with binocs for our marksmen and machine guns (and eventually mortar) and that was basically it, I barely fired at all, and it was great fun.

I have finaly, at 564 hours of Hell Let Loose, unlocked all non-command, non-specialised profiles. I'm still rank 2 squad leader, so I'll probably rank to 3 just to have all infantry profiles unlocked.
I have no interest in Commander or Tank crew, and Recon is one of those roles that can make or break a game so I've got little interest in that kind of stress.
However, I have to say, 564 hours to unlock all infantry profiles is absurd. I get they wanted some progression but holy shit that's a time commitment to just get access to the game you paid for. At least I can now just play what I want and don't have to worry about wasting time I could be using to unlock stuff.
That said, there's quicker ways to level, like Bob the Builder servers, but they're just so tedious, and the Engineer loophole, but those shouldn't be needed.
Posts
luckily they're also giving away free winter clothing as well with the new snow map(s) (they say winter maps, but only revealed Kharkov?)
We're taking the last point, but there's a well hidden garry in there. So I satchel the wall on the other side...
And the whole team zerg rushes the point. I think I TK'd about 20 people.
Open to the two PA groups

It's the gameplay of Battlefield married to the graphics of Minecraft type of game...
...wait, don't go! Please!
It has some amazing gunplay, with tons of attachments and BF-style progression. There is bullet drop, travel time and all that shit.
Did I mention the 127 vs 127 battles? All players, no bots?
