I guess some people don't like going to dive bars as much as I do.
Hooverville and Sluggers are right there.
it's an unfair comparison, really, because you're gonna be hard pressed to find any food situation more in line with my interests than what Chicago has to offer and you're also gonna find some pretty solid dive bars near Wrigley with pretty minimum effort, I'd imagine
The White Sox just fired their GM and team president, and haven't just been bad this year, they've been boring and embarrassing. If they were good, more people would show up
At minimum it is like 9 months of arm-rest without surgery and he’s able to pitch the back half of next season, and just try to load manage it for the rest of his career
Or he does what he did last time he had this injury and gets another cadaver UCL (TJ surgery), not pitch at all next season, but hopefully have a brand new and strong ligament there for the few seasons he may have left as a flamethrower
In a sad way this probably boosts his chances of staying with the Angels since….this is sadly indicative of a pretty big risk of paying him like a 4-WAR starter along with his bat
You know it’s kind of odd that the Red Sox got caught cheating roughly the same time as the Astros and yet most of baseball has memory-holed that particular fact.

It's very possible that he's got clearance that this particular injury wouldn't be worsened by swinging a bat. He's not playing defense, so he's not going to be throwing at all. If nothing else, presumably his agent is on top of this on some level

I just assume most of the baseball world just generically dislikes the Red Sox in the same way as the Yankees, so the cheating was just "yup there they go again." Whereas the Astros were kind of likeable? Hell I was rooting for the Astros against the Dodgers in that WS.
also holy shit the Astros pitcher who didn't even start the game threw 110 pitches. You're losing 12-1, Dusty! Just put in a position player if you're that worried about your bullpen!

boston media is strong in sports and doesn’t have much interest in talking about their own teams cheating

He's done this before. Last time he tore his UCL he was back to swinging like the next day, and even after his offseason surgery he was only out for like a month before he DH'd the rest of the year.
At any rate: the Shohei news sucks, though it does bring into stark relief how remarkable he's been. There's a reason nobody's done what he's done.
Also a huge bummer about Strasburg, but at least he got that magical World Series run. Not every promising, incredible pitcher who has their arm fall apart gets that
The only reason I know what Trout looks like is because he attends basically every home Eagles game during the NFL season and FOX makes a point of showing him every time
Him going back on the IL is probably just so he doesn't miss the September games this year
The Ranger's death spiral the past few weeks has been not very fun!
Like, holy fuck this team suddenly started playing like complete ass!

Sometime in the first third of the season I read an analysis that noted the Rangers were clutch in a way that made their actual offensive output significantly outperform their expected output, but their actual output was so high it was hard to accuse them of being lucky. Even after an 8-game losing streak their run differential gives them a Pythagorean W/L seven games better their actual win count.
Mariners went 5-6 in their first eleven games after the all star break, which put them at an even 50-50 on the season
Since then, they're 23-6
I took a peek at the rest of the schedule - the division's going to come down to the last ten games. Seattle finishes with 3 in Texas followed by 3 against Houston and another 4 vs Texas at home
The Cubs brought up a rookie to start the game at pitcher today, and his first three batters hit a home run, singled, and then walked...and then he retired the next fifteen batters he faced in a row. Which is pretty good.
Alonso is second in the majors behind only Ty France (26) times with getting hit by a pitch 17 times (two others have been hit 17 times as well while Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil has been plunked 16 times).

They don’t happen suddenly

Just good enough for second place lmao

Is he being targeted for some reason?

So what do y'all think ... Blue Jays or Red Sox for the wildcard? Knowing the Sox their bullpen will betray them mid September.
