Previously a “trick” catchers tried to do where they would very obviously jerk their whole arm back into the zone, there are now whole-ass schools and disciplines/methods around it and you’re starting to see guys use mitts and techniques to allow them to keep their elbows mostly in-place and just use their wrist to “snatch” catch the ball
cubs were getting no hit in the fifth before Seiya Suzuki hit a triple and I legit didn't notice because all of their outs were like, 105mph off the bat
can confirm I was mad for the entirety of the Ms 1-0 win today.
- Ms couldn't hit a 4.3 ERA pitcher and let him hit 8 innings under 100 pitches
- Castillo was so afraid of the zone he barely made it through five innings
- umpire's strike zone was randomly huge
- one other thing probably
I assume someone's gonna ask David Ross about this after the game, but he just pinch hit Mike Tauchman for Patrick Wisdom, presumably because he's chasing matchups. This is something he's done for a while, but what confuses me about it is that he's just called up a lefty hitter in Crow-Armstrong. Now, maybe he's worried he's jetlagged or something, but then, when Tauchman hit a single, he pulls Tauchman immediately to put Crow-Armstrong in as a pinch-runner (and to presumably play center field)
Man I just...genuinely don't understand what David Ross is doing tonight. Cubs took the lead in the ninth on a Yan Gomes single, and then they have a pinch runner come in for him while Crow-Armstrong comes up to bat. There's zero outs, and this is the kid's first major league plate appearance in Coors Field, with no outs and the lead...and Ross has him sac bunt. Well, presumably they have him sac bunt and he didn't decide to do that for himself. One of those situations where no outcome of him swinging away is an inning ender. Even if you're worried he's jet lagged or whatever, he's already batting, I don't get it!
harper ejected in the 3rd inning after ump screwed him on a truly horrible pitch. like yea he shouldn’t have thrown his helmet or whatever but come on man. i’m here to see the players, not the ump show
Well, I think Steele just pitched himself out of the Cy Young. The Cubs offense is currently pretty unlikely to dig themselves out of any holes, either, they've been mostly pretty grim for a couple of weeks now.
Think they've got to bench some guys and let some of the rookies they've given like, four at-bats to get some time in. Genuinely can't be much worse than what the regulars have been doing lately.
They're still in...well, losing two of three to the Rockies because they kept running into outs in Denver didn't help, but every other wild card team has been playing really inconsistent as well, so provided they can avoid a sweep, they've...got a real shot, but the bullpen is gassed, a lot of the rotation is in uncharted territory, and they've all lost the ability to hit. Bad time of year for all of that to happen.

You can see the moment adrenaline wears off and he actually starts to feel it.

The Jays not making the playoffs is just waters wet sky blue etc
Just the utmost desire to never win a series of baseball like that's the whole end game boys!
why would you do that, I don't understand
the rules make it so hard to fuck up and yet
especially when i have to watch a domestic abuser point to god on a home run
Oh lads why are you this way
