Dang, Wayfarer's been on my 'want to see live' list for a while, but I feel like I've been on a concert marathon for the last 10 years and this last year I'm starting to feel concerted out. I've still got Archspire, 3 inches of blood and Dillinger escape plan coming up. Leprous announced a tour for September as well. Not sure I have the energy to fit in another show.
Two of my three ordered Imperial Age CDs showed up yesterday, signed, and with a note tucked in the package that they're still waiting on the new manufacturing run of the debut album and will send that out as soon as they get it (and, bless them, they're eating the extra shipping cost on that too).
I'm digging the new High on Fire album, and was quite surprised that I really like some of the new Pearl Jam album too. Catchy stuff on there. The Atrae Bilis sophomore is also pretty damn good, brutal and dissonant but quite controlled.
I just got in the new Angel Sword promo and I really dig it, just kinda laid back atmospheric heavy metal and it stands head and shoulders over the sophomore.
Also got a nice double dose of the sludge in the post today, but Dvne loses points for the shitty digisleeve packaging. Stop punishing the CD fans!

Hell yeah, that is very welcome news. Time to get my preorder in.
I already own all the originals on CD except for Nothing But Death Remains, so that will probably be the only one I purchase, but it's cool that they're re-releasing them. That Nightfall Overture release is actually super rare, if I remember correctly.
"This campaign isn't just about revisiting the past-it's about re-introducing these powerful works in their definitive forms, complete with corrected lyrics and rich liner notes."

Proceeds to release a double digipack with two versions of the same album. Wut.

A week or two ago, organizers for Maryland Deathfest announced that My Dying Bride was not only cancelling their appearance there, but all shows for 2024. They expected the band to make an announcement shortly. Looks like that announcement finally came, and basically, some of the band members hate each other. From their Facebook page:
The production of this latest album was arduous and challenging to such an extent that it has revealed fractures within the band. These tensions had already been observed during the creation of the previous 2 albums and were only exacerbated during the Covid period. Over the past few months, they have intensified, causing a profound sense of discontent among the band members. The resulting stress and the pervasive feeling of burnout, along with the physical and mental malaise it creates, necessitated a period of time off which unfortunately impacts on live shows.
The reason for the lack of an official statement until now is because the band has truly hoped to resolve these internal issues and perform some shows this year while trying find a resolution in time to satisfy all parties involved. Sadly, this resolution is yet to be found.
Regrettably, a lack of understanding and poor communication from our professional partners has resulted in an untimely and chaotic mess from which a recovery is challenging. However, the promoters have now been officially contacted and it is hoped that steps can be taken to minimise the impact on you all.
We apologise for keeping you in the dark, but these are indeed challenging times.
Nightingale is cool, but I don't know if I need to have those in physical; I will check through my Edge of Sanity stuff and see what I'm missing, maybe Crimson II, I think I've got all the others.
Good to know. HoF is a band that on paper, I should really dig but I only end up really liking one or two songs per album. I think that record is actually waiting at home for me today.
Really enjoying this one, from the dreamy atmospheres of the vocals and riffs to the amazing cover. Crushes their older albums imo. Texas post-metal stuff.
I love that in the new Darkthrone CD, rather than some extended thanks list, Fenriz just says "Listen to Century from Sweden, and Malokarpatan." Also it's the first 'white spine' CD of theirs on my shelf. Curses!
Looked up the Blind Guardian setlist for this tour. There's like 6 variable songs in the set, fuck! They played Ashes to Ashes 2 times on the tour in the US so far and if they don't play it at the show I'm going to I will cry.
Mgcw, they played Traveller in Time tonight. I was a bit sad because I wanted Quest for Tanelorn so bad or Ashes to Ashes, but whatever they fucking rocked as always. And FINALLY they played Majesty in Phoenix. It was a tremendous show overall and I can't believe I almost talked myself out of going since this was my 4th time.
I'll say the way they got on stage and intro'd Imaginations was really hype, even better than when they played Imaginations all the way thru about 6-7 years back.
Also Night Demon was solid. And I fucking lost it when the titular demon came out

I saw the words “Blind Guardian” and “setlist” and immediately panicked and stopped reading. I’m seeing them with my brother tomorrow night in SF. I guess I’ll check back in on Monday.

This is the same dude behind Gutvoid and Pukewraith, he's becoming quite the death metal prodigy. This is his take on a sort of Demilich meets Morbid Angel sound.
Listening through this one now and it's pretty badass...I dug their first album and I think this one is better. Similar to that Baron I posted, this one's got a bit of a hardcore meets death metal edge but with lots of atmospheric parts and evil harmonies and shit.
Is that Scott Ian in that Anthrax video or a look alike?
e: no goatee I guess. Faceblindness strikes again
anyway I've been enjoying Ethereal Flames. Relatively straightforward Italian power metal, but with a more muscular feel than Rhapsody https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOipfH6fyI8

They're continuing to morph into Rivers of BCI, but it's still pretty good. Not sure if I like it quite as much as their previous stuff though. Maybe a few more listens.

Anyway, I almost missed the aptly titled new album from Chainsaw (Greece).

Oh damn, Coady Willis is drumming for them now? Sweet!
It'll probably be accompanied by a new album.
