That looked a lot better than the trailer—whichever marketing goon put that thing together had no idea what they were doing.
It looks like Dragon Age. I’m still cautious, but it feels like there’s a chance.
And now I want to play through Origins again. Which start do you all pick? I usually go with Cousland since it means the PC is as invested in the Ferelden plot as the Darkspawn one.

I mean here's the rub.
That trailer was cool for one set of people. Yay fun characters!
Then some other group of very online gamer sorts spend a whole lot of time and energy being angry at it. But talking about it. A lot.
Then they show some gameplay a day later that shows what many of those folks is "what they should have shown before"
So did the marketing people really fail there?

Yeah like, it was pretty obvious that trailer was for people who may have never actually heard of Dragon Age, much less played it.

Also the Character Introductions were exactly the same as the trailer. Even when they highlighted the class, origin and that it was a custom character.
I’m happy with the gameplay reveal. I would have preferred something from mid game so we could see more abilities in action. Still, I very much appreciate the little bit of story on display. I also appreciate how much mobility we see. I assume they were playing a rogue.
Gotta love how dapper Neve is. Even her prosthetic leg is dope. And that hat is equal parts fancy and stupid. Just perfect character design.
Ok, whatever marketing team made that character trailer should be fired immediately. That gameplay trailer was so intensely better it may as well have been a different title completely.
Normal Bioware-these-days concern still exists, but that went a long way towards making me feel better.

If they released this trailer on Sunday people would have been much more receptive. I don't like this attempt to do visually what feels like magic steampunk (I guess that's a LoL thing), but it feels like they finally have a decent combat system which can save a lot of other issues. What they showed borrowed heavily from the opening of ME3 with the reaper attack.
But because they released that loser Heroes trailer first, I still don't know which Bioware we're going to get with this. And this is so early in the beginning this might actually be something they redid just to bait and switch later. Because I don't trust Bioware anymore. That's not my fault, it's theirs.

First the awesome Orlan from Avowed and now Harding finally getting her moment.
Pretty much what I expected. Nice smooth action rpg with the Mass Effect-y pause to give orders. This is what Inquisition should've been, it even would've worked better with its "open world".
I want DAO gameplay but since it's never gonna happen might as well drop the pretense and do this instead.
I mean, yes I'm sure she'll be like an inverse Karlach if people buy the game. It's just bizarre that they made the guy in the first game but everyone wanted him to die ASAP, and for some reason they tried again with a different writer in the second game (I still wanted him to go away). And now they're like *forehead slap* just make her a woman! You can have a different personality trait guys.

It worked for Fifi La Fume.

I've heard a lot of complaints from people who don't like the conversation wheel, because it doesn't tell us exactly what Rook will say. While I understand their frustration, I'm wracking my brain to have a voiced Rook without the conversation wheel.
That boggles my mind that it's even a reason. Why wouldn't you want a trailer that tells non-fans what kind of game it actually is? What does introducing people these characters that they have no idea about actually do for non-fans? The Mass Effect 2 trailer was perfect at combining what kind of game it was and also showing you flashy moves.

Almost any cinematic trailer ever wouldn't tell you what kind of a game something was unless you already knew.
And they happen all the time. Gets people interested in a vibe.

The vibe from the trailer and the gameplay are completely different too lol.
I hope there's a deep dive into what the hell happened with that trailer. I will consume all media that talks about it because it flabbergasts me.
Gameplay looks okay. I'll probably just hold off a bit until it goes on sale for < $30. All flash and fluff from what I can see and I just don't have the patience for that anymore.

Both felt appropriately Dragon Age
DA2 and Inquisition both had plenty of more lighthearted moments along the line of the trailer, along with an overall dark vibe. Origins was the only one that didn’t fit that feel.

Yes it's an advertisement that focuses on a single feeling.
Just like any overly dramatic trailer. It's not like a game will be extremely dramatic at every turn and not have levity and humor.
Just like the Marilyn Manson trailer.
This is nothing new. Even for this exact series.

I just really hope they don't try to make Scout Harding a badass because the thing that made her super cool was that she was just a normal person.
I don’t remember that much about her, haven’t played DAI in forever. However, she is featured in some dragon age comics and she’s been keeping company with Varric, so she’s probably leveled up quite a bit over time.

If you didn't fucking know that DA was an RPG you would assume from the trailer that it was going to be a fucking hero looter shooter game. Or maybe a mobile game with roguelike features!
Man I had forgotten about that trailer lol. The hoopla around the trailer is just crazy to me. It was fine. It clearly wasnt meant to be a gameplay trailer. I had thought we were getting a new bards tale tbh. But in the end it didnt sway me away because its a damn commercial that showed off the game in a way that games have been doing forever... as evidenced by that new shit trailer lol.
Its like the whole people forgetting that DA:O had day 1 DLC.

Like... what is the difference between that trailer and this new one?

Why continue a long dormant franchise if not to attract the fans of its previous installments?
So long as they don't have the repetitive dungeon aspect, I think there's going to be a lot of happy people when they finally play this game.

That's not what is being said.
Making a trailer focused on new audiences does not mean they don't want the old audience.
Not every bit of marketing is focused on the same part of the target audience.
People who already know about dragon age and are looking towards the new game are going to care more about seeing gameplay.
A completely non-gameplay trailer is more focused on people going "oh what's this thing? Maybe I should look into it more"
We never saw her in action but felt pretty clear she was a trained combatant/archer.
