I got Hades, which I expect to suck at but feel like I should at least try because of how highly it's regarded. Should be a good steam deck game.
Resident Evil 2 Remake. Also probably going to suck at it and I don't generally play scary games, but again it's one people seem to really love.
And Rolling Line, which is a charming looking game from 6 years ago where you build model railways. I kind of want to start doing that for real so when I found this game last week I knew I had to get it if it went on sale.

We've had Rolling Line for a few years now!
I bought it when the kids were deep in their train game period. They were enthralled for about a month, but unfortunately the UI was VR-first at the time and it was a bit clunky to use via a mouse, although I think it improved since.
It certainly helped that it was NZ made and therefore half the initial locations were places we could visit. Picton got special attention from them because it included the holiday apartments we stay at every Summer.

I just loaded it up to check out quickly before bed and yeah the UI is definitely a bit weird, but not too bad, I think I'll get used to it. I actually really like how the menus are all diagetic, and you pick stuff out of drawers. And the magazines are cute.
The layouts I saw were really impressive, it's probably going to be a steep learning curve but I already have an idea for a massive and probably over-ambitious plan.
Being able to get in and ride the trains is also cute. The whole thing is just adorable.
Has anyone played Shadows of Doubt since it hit 1.0? I liked the demo some, but the investigation UI was clunky. It was easy to completely lose a piece of information, or load up your pinboard with a bunch of junk.
A friend of mine gifted it to me, but it isn't really the kind of game I can give a spin until after the holiday crunch is over. I will give my opinions when I do get to it.
I was stuck in hades for a long time, like could get to the boss but could never beat him. I almost quit, but kept going because the writing is cool and each run I usually enjoyed what the npcs had to say (this is something that makes or breaks rouge lites for me, I don’t really care about stats and builds, but I’ll stick with it if the story keeps going and feels like it’s moving forward)
Then all of a sudden I beat hades and then in my next like 5 runs I beat him again, like a dam broke
If you get 100% stuck but are enjoying the world I recommend turning on god mode just to see more of the story
I should probably fire up Hades again and get to 10 clears/see more of the story before Hades II hits v1.0. I know that's still a ways off but I am very good at procrastinating.
Completed something I've never done in my prior playthroughs of Final Fantasy VI:
Obtained all 253 of Gau's Rages (Siegfried, Typhon, and Tonberries Rages don't count since they're bugged and no official version has ever bothered to fix them).
Also I think that completion percentage is a liar. Either that or this version of the game was mostly only bought by diehard fans of the game (it's the previous Steam version that got delisted in favor of the pixel remaster).
From prior playthroughs, I knew that the in-game clocked maxed out at 99:59 (I've played a lot of FF6). I was aiming to see if I could get everything in the game done before the clocked maxed out. I failed. I still needed two Rages when I hit 99 hours (and I haven't completed the Soul Shrine yet either, just went in long enough to unlock the last potential Rage to appear on the Veldt), but it wasn't until about an hour and a half after the clock maxed out that I finally got both of them (oddly within like ten minutes of each other).
My final Rage was Deepeye, which was annoying for one because it's a really powerful Rage, but mostly because I fought it four times before I was able to get it's Rage. The first time Gau had already leaped in the previous fight and hadn't returned yet and did not decide to return on that fight so I missed it. The second time I did successfully leap them, but didn't save immediately after and the next fight was a Tonberry that wiped my party with the Traveler spell. The third time I had accidentally left Auto-Battle toggled on in the prior fight, so when they appeared Edgar loaded up an Auto-Crossbow and wiped them all out before I could turn it off.
Gonna grab this Mortal Kombat Expansion while it's cheap, but looking at my wishlist and I'm wondering if I should snag one of these other games.
I'm currently deep into Satisfactory, but I probably have at least a hundred hours left, so I'm likely no moving on anytime soon, but there are a handful of games that have caught my eye and are pretty cheap right now.
I'm leaning towards Shapez 2, but I also kind of want to avoid Early Access syndrome where I play through an early access game once, or multiple times, before it actually comes out and get tired of it before then.
Or I could just hold off for another sale.
EDIT: Oh, and I've already played Riftbreaker, but I wouldn't be opposed to going through it again with all of the DLC, though it sounds like there's one more big update coming next year (maybe) that it might be worth waiting for.

Now I never have to set foot on the Veldt again.
In this version of the game.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's a significant number of people who just Cheat Engined or something equivalent their way to get that achievement
I've played a lot of FF6 over the decades, and I bench Gau and avoid the Veldt like the plague. I'm sure they are some amazing Rage abilities that simply the game, but you couldn't pay me any amount of money to grind for them. Same for any sort of Capture abilities or Absorb stuff in other JRPGs. Maybe I would have done it as a child with nothing else to play, but that ship sailed a long time ago.

There is a surprising number of good sales on my wishlist items. And I'm probably not going to actually buy any of them.
I'm truly astonished how many of my wishlist items basically came out at $20. Doesn't matter whether it's 80% off or 20% off, everyone seemed to aim straight for that same price point.
I don't think it's a coincidence, I'm sure there's a bunch of market and economic research available to the sales folk, but I still just find it unsettling, like some small pebble in my shoe that I'm not quite sure is there or if I'm imagining it.

Okay NOW I have all the Indy achievements. Pro tip for one that you can kinda lock yourself out of at the VERY end of the game/post game.
So those stone things you’ve been collecting. You get an achievement for finding them all but they have to be in your bag at the same time for it to trigger. If you are like me and put all the ones you had into the vault door, then completed the game and picked up the final one from the tent and then used it, the achievement won’t pop and also they are all now inaccessible below the floor.
What you can do is go to the menu and click on your save spot which has like three roll back points. Just load the most recent one which should put you back right before you got the last stone. Now you can meticulously remove all the stones from the vault door and get the achievement.
I bought Wild Bastards even though I was lukewarm on the demo. Was kind of hoping there was a bit more to it.
There's not. It's too many small systems instead of a few bigger more interesting ones. There's 2 layers of roguelike tree/maps, one for space and one for each planet. Planet ones are more complex, you're trying to get temporary and permanent loot and get off-planet before the badguys land and get you. In the way of your collecting everything are roadblocks, which are the actual FPS combat areas. But they're all pretty small and open, not like the twisty ships of Void Bastards. No real stealth, and I found myself getting shot in the back a lot as enemies move around a lot, and pretty sneakily, like the burrowing snakes. But each map is small and only has maybe a dozen enemies at most, many are 4-5, one had one enemy. They're not very interesting design and spacewise.
Then instead of a weapons loadout, you just bring a selection of 3 Wild Bastards to each planet. Each has a different weapon and a different special ability, which you can't use until you find some Juice. You can bring 2 to each combat arena and swap anytime with Q. They're just not well differentiated or interesting on their own despite being separate characters.
I dunno it's all just kind of flat. The humor isn't as sharp as Void Bastards corporate hell, there's no stealth gameplay, the progression is both more complicated and less satisfying, the weapons don't feel as punchy, you don't feel as in control. Just kind of a miss, unfortunately.
I loved Void Bastards but I saw Wild Bastards and immediately thought there's zero chance they'd be able to replicate in a western setting the fun of taking the Rifter and dumping chumps out in space.

I played a bit last night and yeah, so far it feels like maybe it's missing those little flairs and details that I liked so much about the original
Ed Zitron is a tech journalist I really like and he's written extensively about what he calls the Rot Economy, the continuing slide of virtually all tech services and platforms into working less well, being more expensive, taking more and more of your time and giving less and less back, in the service of continual "growth" in the form of personal data collection and more eyes on advertising. His newsletters can be kind of long-winded but are a good look at what exactly these companies are doing and why

Think I'm gonna pick up Foxhole, Sovereign Syndicate, System Shock, Stranded: Alien Dawn and Dungeons 3
Sidenote, ref new elden ring player count being either 1 or 3.
This was largely a game balancing decision, rather than a game design decision,” Ishizaki said. “So it came as development progressed.” Like in Elden Ring, enemy health will scale based on your group size. However, the team found the “sweet spot” is three players because it doesn’t “feel too overwhelming or too busy,” he said.
Oh fuck off. At this point, just admit you're trolling people or just want to be wacky.
'We can balance for 1 or 3 but not 2.' Sounds like you might be bad at balancing, bud.

I use him a good bit, but only really memorized a handful of the really useful Rages. The part I like better about him is that he's one of only two characters (Mog's the other) who can equip the Snow Muffler, which is the best armor in the game and let's him easily get 255 defense so any physical attack that doesn't ignore defense will only deal 0 or 1 damage depending on which row he's in.
The Veldt can also be useful for learning magic without leveling up too much since enemies on the Veldt don't give XP but still give Magic Points. There are also some items you can only get more of on the Veldt (ie. Genji Glove).
Cyan's probably the character I pick the least since his damage potential falls off hard after Sabin's Scenario at the beginning of the game.

Yeah, I usually use Gau early on because it's pretty easy for him to get some silly effective stuff like Fireball and the rank 2 elemental spells before you can otherwise get access, but like any character where effectively using them requires digging through a menu of more than about 10 items I tend to shelve him once the characters whose abilities are Punches Good can punch good enough where it stops being worth the time to select the perfect spell for the occasion.
This game was pretty fun! Not sure it was my favorite deckbuilder but it was a nice bit of controlled chaos to beat with all the characters. The lose and gain life repeatedly ti gain life thing was super unique.

I suspect the real answer is"the return on balancing for two people didn't make sense".
Sightly more cynically, From being bad at balance is not really news. (I meant for one, define what "Balanced" means! Everything is equally viable? Okay, so how did we make sure everything feels distinct? Etc)
Balance in the souls games has always been erratic at best. Part of that's just down to the nature of the game, part of that is because asymmetrical pvp + PvE is a helldeathwacky combo to get feeling remotely fair, and part of that is because From's game design has a lot off rough edges and weirdly unpolished bits (which also is part of the charm of the series for folks. Heck even for me who'll grouse about this stuff a fair bit).
So then making a bonehead decision around # of players? Ahyup, honestly expected.
