This is the thread to batsignal people you admire on the forums.
This year, the entire transition team, from the surveys to the subforum to everything else. Thank you.
To
@Raijin Quickfoot for the Secret Saints, I had fun participating and want to do it more.
@Chu and
@SummaryJudgment for making the trip to TN to hang out with a redneck and meet Ham the pittie
@Atomika as always, year after year you inspire me
@Gazing cause we're gonna be pen pals and you're doing that zine
The entire SE++ crew who has been in the forum transition threads giving really good insight, I didn't know most of you going into this and you're all on the beer list.
@Tumin who is just delightful
@Eddy because I missed weird esoteric takes on things
Vanguard and Orca who are no longer on this forum but will hopefully come to the next one
There may be more I'm missing, but the orchestra is playing and the microphone is lowering
Anyone I mentioned, and didn't mention, is doing an official AH Good Job©
Posts
But I’m going to make a LOT of posts here in small doses throughout the holiday time
For now though, I want to give a special shoutout to Vanguard. His last few posts were among those pushing back hard on the few people being weirdly transphobic in the aftermath of the election, when I was too upset to say anything. Seeing him push back on that was really heartening for me in a very very dark moment.
And besides that, he was just always so cool. He had the most off the wall music tastes and easily beat me in terms of weird and obscure music tastes that I only wish I could keep up with. He was always one of my favorite people in [chat]
Anyway, he gets the special shoutout because he said he wasn’t coming to the new forum. I hope he changes his mind, but short of that, I hope he at least sees this and knows that I appreciate him.
And real quick @amateurhour : you’re getting a bigger post than this one, but briefly: you’ve always been good at making me laugh, now hurry up and finish your farm because I am so ready to be done with the outside world. 😸
@Librarian's ghost A nasty little fiend who I love to see skulking around those stacks
@Brolo A slimy sewer-slicker who stomps through those cloacatacombs and keeps us up-to-date with the filthiest gamer grool
@Raijin Quickfoot What even is that dang so rotten and crusted but we can't get enough of it
@smof Is that a crumbling ghoul attacking my shrubbery? No, it's a crumbling ghoul carefully bending the garden into a beautiful lair
@Perrsun I love it when this ragged piper leads all us rats to a grody godless kingdom of our own making
@Hobnail Over in that corner you can see the fermenting apocalypse, its barbs clicking and humming as they grow
@pooka I once saw this wicked imp shove three skeletons into a mirror
@Cello It's dangerous to be posting so near an open flame but I think we all kind of like it when our beards blaze and eyes glaze and skins crack and bones black
@Uriel One night he crept into the walls and now he is the walls and we all love the house even more
Legends never die.

Ummm 🤔
Shout out @crwth and @Poorochondriac they probably never noticed me but I always appreciated their posts when they were around and was sad to see them go
Shout out @Oghulk @Kelor @Quetzi (and probably like a half dozen other really smart and kind people who post on the discord) have talked me down from aggro-posting around sensitive topics, I shouldn't need it but I appreciate it nonetheless
Gonna shout out the various threads around SE like the From the River to the Sea thread, Henry Kissinger thread, the former Twitter thread and the Luigi thread for keeping me informed and contextualizing things for folks like me who are constantly overwhelmed
Random people I miss @Elki @Netscape @Willeth @Tommatt / @RickRude
I probably forgot some but if they come to me I'll just make another post
I love you all I'm glad I'm sticking kicking around this dirtball to have seen this place through to the end, thanks for being homies, homies!!!!
Thanks to the Mods for continuing to volunteer for way more than they signed up for. Thanks to former Mods for all you did as well, as it's understandable if you didn't want to deal with *gestures broadly at everything*
Thanks to @enlightenedbum and @moniker for all you teach me in DND with your effort posts.
Thanks to the anime thread folks for watching reading and chatting about our shared passion.
Gigantic thanks to @Edcrab for running an amazing Phalla this year, as well everyone else who participated.
But I want to be succinct here and take a second to specifically say thank you to @Delzhand @Zonugal and @Dibbit for being there and being part of the transition team from day one, and generally being tireless compatriots in all of this. If we pull this off, it will be entirely because of the incredibly huge amount of hard work you’ve put in. Thank you.
I just wish you knew it was the good old days before you've left them.
and the gengars who are guiding me" -- W.S. Merwin
I appreciate all the hard work going into keeping that alive. And i really do hope most of you make the transition. The people are what have made this place great and if we stick together we can make another great place.
@Local H Jay i would be remiss if i didn't also say im glad that we have gotten to bump into eachother more in other areas of the forums. And through that ive gotten to know you better and youre just a straight up cool(and handsome) dude. I really look forward to continuing that in the new forums and even whatever future silly video game bickerings we can have. Because hey, bickering about video games one minute and calling eachother pretty the next is what friends are for right?
Who is going through parenting woes but still killing it and inspiring this year, another parent I hope to live up to
@Hahnsoo1
You keep it real chill around here. Rude, churlish. Thanks for making the time though
And to everyone else, I suppose,
Cheers to the TTRPG threads for the stories and ideas and place to brag about saloon burlesque gnome antics.
Cheers to the Webcomics threads for sharing the Gospel of Wilbur.
Cheers to the folks I argue with for their passion and research even if we reach very different conclusions.
Cheers to the transition team and mods because holy hell all that work.
Fellow [chat] shitposters like, but not limited to - @ElJeffe, @Tav, @Tumin, @Drez, @Atomika, @Chu, @Gazing, @Weaver, @Quid, @Mim and @thatassemblyguy
and, like, a fuck load more, but between name changes and time constraints we'll leave it there
Also - the hiberno-britianic (is that what we're calling it now?) politics crew, including, but again not limited to - @japan, @Bogart, and @Desktop Hippie
And finally, the people in the football thread, most of whom I've probably mentioned already. It's been real fun watching City shit the bed with you fine people. Long may it continue.
Celeste [Switch] - She'll be wrestling with inner demons when she comes...
Octopath Traveler - MY BLADE IS UNBENDING
Thanks for playing board and vidgeo game and being extra nice boys for a while now.
Thanks to @six for games and show invites.
Thanks to all my chat people for doing chat and being fun people.
Thanks to all the people working on the new forum.
but they're listening to every word I say
Thank you to all of the Saints. You know who you are and I appreciate the things you do more than words can properly express
Thank you to the SE Discord for listening to me and helping me navigate a very difficult time in my life.
Thank you to anyone I interact with regularly. You fill a big void in my life that would be so much emptier without all of you.
Two years ago he invited me to do a local marathon and hosted me! It's one of my favorite race memories, him and his wife were awesome hosts and good times were had!
I'd like to thank the Game Dev thread over in G&T for indulging my incomprehensible rants about whatever strange math I was fixated on while working on my game engine. I appreciate your encouragement, even if nothing valuable ever came of my work, and I'm sorry I never gave as much support as I got. May you all find success in your own endeavors.
I'm "kupiyupaekio" on Discord.
Thank you. That means a lot to me.
Big shout out to anyone that ever played a forum game with me, including but not limited to @Zomro @BahamutZERO @discrider @Green @MamaWolf @Matev @The Brayster @Bursar @El Skid @Tynnan @The Zombie Penguin @AustinP0027 @kime @Elvenshae @hiimrenireny @Dex Dynamo @Auralynx @nightmarenny @fadingathedges @Cheeseliker @Kelor your personalities and creativity made them worth the time and effort.
@Nips for caring more than anyone should about my unpublished game systems.
@Dracomicron letting me in on early drafts of something great.
@Albino Bunny @RawrBear @Delzhand for having really cool ideas and sharing my wavelength from time to time.
@Depressperado for being a guy I’d want to go to a sticky dive bar with.
@Paku for his infectious enthusiasm and that fact he is legit a good person.
Peas was the funniest poster to me. They’re the one I wonder what they’re up to now.
@Darmak is my sworn brother. I don’t know when I decided this but it is true.
@21stCentury is positively charming. Just so you know.
@Fishman is ok.
@Zonugal for his level of continued detail and eloquence in his posts regardless of the topic in a sea of like shit what I post.
Poorochondriac likewise was always a great read. One of the real pillars of this place being worthwhile.
@Calica for being a kind and intelligent soul, from what I can glean from posts.
@Lucedes has always had nice things to say about me.
@Xaquin @Jedoc for being guys I’d stand at a fireplace with at an old pub and talk crap while drinking a pint so dark it constitutes a meal.
I like @MegaMan001 but don’t have much to say about them. You’re alright.
There are others, but I can’t recall everyone’s username. Right, I’m gonna continue using the internet sparingly until well into next year. Have fun everyone!
I love you bud, I hope you're doing well 💚
There's a bunch of posters here I deeply appreciate, @Endless_Serpents definitely among them. Every year I am terrible at thinking of specific people to call out but you're all amazing and I'm glad to be here with y'all
Shout out to the few old timers from 2006 still around. Shout out to all the ones who aren't. Y'all meant a lot to me at a bad point in my life.
And you absolutely just made my day with your shoutout. Last Holiday forum and I finally get @'d in a Forumer Appreciation thread. May seem like a small thing, but it does feel pretty good.
Sincerely, thank you. I want this on my tombstone.
Thanks for your work in the past few weeks/months since the shutdown was communicated.
I haven't yet participated in the various threads regarding the change, but I do have thoughts. Properly articulating them is another matter entirely.
But I really, really appreciate the effort you throw into that project and I am really looking forward to the result.
@minor incident , @Dibbit , and @Zonugal for letting me step back from the broader questions of governance/moderation and focus on the tech, but also for continuing to make sure I'm not burning myself out.
@syndalis for really knocking down the earliest hurdles around development and setting us up for success
I also want to give a few general shoutouts:
I am serious about that last one, and I hope it doesn't seem like faux-magnanimity. There's always potential for a small group to think they've got a grasp of a situation, and people willing to dissent are fucking invaluable even when it gets a little heated. I know we lost and will lose some more people on the way, but those who have bowed out have left their mark on how we approach things.
Anyone willing to run a forum game of anything gets a big hug of appreciation from me. @admanb for the most relaxing game of Mage Knight I think I'll ever experience (stretching a game out to one turn a day for months), @Steelhawk for various 5e campaigns, and @The Zombie Penguin for Fairy Adventures.
Other than my general "here to talk about games and chew bubblegum" demeanor, I appreciate the D&D movie thread contributors for introducing me to things I probably wouldn't have gone to see otherwise, and for encouraging me whenever I write up a rambling post about whatever I happen to catch in the theater that week.

Thanks to @Raijin Quickfoot, @the cheat, and @agoaj for being Saintly! I stopped attending the family Christmas events when things locked down, and our finances are too tight to really indulge, so these were the only real Christmas gifts I've gotten in a long time. Everything's getting used basically every day, and making a big difference.
Thanks to @Kadoken, @ironsizide, @Hahnsoo1, @amateurhour, @Ringo, @Endless_Serpents and everyone else from that PbP game I can't currently look up because of all this holiday cheer, for RPGs over the years! This should also include @Dex Dynamo, @Nirya, @Radius, @Kinderparty and basically half of the wrestling thread as well, really. I'm struggling to remember any more ancient games, but @INeedNoSalt is in there somewhere.
It's been a while, but since we're wrapping things up here, thanks to @Rius, @Infidel, @Raiden333, @Bowen and anyone else I can't immediately recall for all the good parts of WoW Classic.
Let's keep a good thing going at Coin Return.
