Hello Fellow Forumers and future Coin Return Members!
Your faithful Transition Team has been hard at work making a cozy new home for all of us, and we’ve had tremendous help from the community building it - not only in terms of the vast ocean of feedback, but also specific assists on development, legal, project management, and other areas!
But now the time has come to show support in a more worldly way: filthy, filthy lucre! Many of you have asked how or when you’ll be able to contribute financially, and the time is nigh! Very nigh! Right now, actually.
To fund the startup and ongoing expenses, we’re pleased to announce the start of our inaugural fundraiser! And as with all good fundraisers, we have some inspiring words for you on why you should donate:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPgFqb2aE38
So, please
donate now, Minor Incident is standing by with the paypal account:
Donate Now! (Paypal)
Donate Now! (Paypal)
Or alternatively, now via
Ko-Fi
What will these funds be used for, you ask? We have a few big remaining one-time expenses, such as federal tax filing and some paid addons to dramatically reduce development costs. We estimate our remaining capital expenses at somewhere around $750.
Once that hurdle has been cleared, all remaining funds will be used to gain runway against our upkeep, like XenForo hosting (this is the forum), domain registration, google namespace for board member email and document storage, and external file storage. Depending on our resource usage, our monthly upkeep could be anywhere from $150-300, and is likely to start out slow and grow over time. We’ll provide regular updates on our costs, reserves, and income every month.
Our target goal is $4000. This number was chosen to cover our remaining initial costs and give us approximately a year of runway.
This fundraiser will run until February 7th. To give people time to digest and discuss the revelations to come, we’ll be revealing no more than one post a day even in the event of an initial surge.
Love, The Transition Team,
Your Transition Team,
@Delzhand@Dibbit@minor incident@Zonugal@syndalis
With special thanks to
@hahnsoo and
@powerpuppies for their ongoing assistance,
@HiT BiT for the great thermometer, and
@Lanz for editing the video!
A quick update on payment processing:
A few of you have reached out to ask about alternatives to PayPal due to (understandable) moral objections to giving that company any money. We've gone ahead and gotten an account set up with Ko-fi as an alternative. PLEASE NOTE: that the way Ko-fi works is that all donations are deposited into our PayPal account (which we then move to our bank account). PayPal does not take a cut from this process. They just act as a receiving account. When you donate via the Ko-fi page, you'll get three options to pay: Credit Card, PayPal, or Google Pay. If you choose Credit Card or Google Pay,
as far as I can tell, PayPal doesn't make a dime from this. Obviously if you choose PayPal as the payment processor, they do.
Hopefully that puts some people's minds at ease!

We’re on our way, gang! Our first of many goals has been reached, and thus, I’m proud to reveal our first Coin Return Teaser Images!
These images show the light and dark version of the new software’s default theme. It’s not necessarily the theme, colors, or logo that we’ll stick with, but as you can see, it’s generally familiar - a list of forums, and the most recent post on the right. The biggest change is that it’s a restricted width, which is best practice these days for reducing eye strain on full-size displays.
The light/dark switch can be made at any time, from any page, via the footer (placement subject to change). You can also set it to “system”, which will let it inherit from your browser settings.
Xenforo also automatically provides us with a PWA (progressive web app). You can install the website as a native application on your phone or tablet and configure it to use push notifications for things like PMs, alerts, responses to your threads, etc.

It’s a long road ahead, but just remember why we’re here:
See you all at 1k!
You pick up the shiny object. What’s this? A golden token bearing the insignia of a stripe-faced mustelid. You know this creature. It’s a badger!
The new forum has an easily customizable system for creating what it calls Trophies, but more importantly, it has another system that lets us rename them to Badgers! And we’re not limited to using post count, join date or other numeric figures - having plumbed the depths of the software, we’ve figured out not only how to make new badges, but how to make new badge criteria! Posted an image in a Horse Thread? That’s a badger. Claimed your name from PA? Also a badger. Legacy Badgers. New Badgers. Secret Badgers. And technical leadership committed to providing more and expanding the system.
We’ve also put a lot of effort into making sure profile customizations build on what we’ve had for so long. Goodbye buggy title/location fields, hello general-purpose profile note 1 and 2 (which will auto-populate via the account claim system! A functional pronoun field!
This forum has many –many– connections, and some even know what an "internet forum" is!
As such, it is with great joy, and immense pleasure that I would like to present to you Ben Gray, with a very special message to all of you:
Asides from this incredible gift by @MNC Dover , we are also incredibly giddy to announce a return of an old friend:
A calming, familiar fortress of sapphire and slate encloses you, reminding you of peaceful days gone by.
In addition to the new Coin Return style, we’ll also have an updated version of Ye Olde Style. Inspired by @suriko’s tireless work, this will be available to all users without need for a browser plugin, and will work on mobile and desktop.
This feature is a work in progress, and we hope to not only preserve the nostalgic color scheme, but modernize the style as well. Improved accessibility and a slightly tweaked dark mode are in the works!
Edit update: I accidentally removed the second preview image, thinking it was a duplicate of the first, it's been restored.
Suddenly, your orb glows with the power of secret knowledge!
The new software has a robust reaction system. However, out of the box, the user experience is pretty terrible, and downright unusable on mobile devices. Not only was Delz able to beat it into submission, but he also upscaled the Agree and Awesome icons we all know and love. But what’s this? So Raven was also redesigned and upscaled! And… a wizard, pondering an orb, for some reason? What does it mean? Delz added this without telling anybody and refuses to remove it, citing admin privilege. He has repeatedly claimed that meaning cannot be given, only divined.
There’s one other change to the reaction system as well - posts will retain their reactions even if those reactions are not currently enabled. When would reactions get changed? That’s easy! During the annual Coin Return Reaction Jamboree!
The Jamboree will be an annual event where members can alter the slate of active reactions! We’re still working out the details of this event, but we can share this much: certain reactions will be permanent (like/awesome at minimum), you’ll be able to vote on which (if any) reactions to replace, and members can propose new reactions using emojis or their own images!
The servant stands aside, and you proceed past his mechanical, featureless face uneasily…
Geth has served us well, but has earned his retirement. It is time for a new sentinel of justice, and so Gort has come from beyond the stars to maintain order (and roll dice, for some reason?). Thanks to help from @infidel, Gort uses the same dice inputs as Geth, so players of forum games need not worry.
As for the wicked, Gort holds irrevocable powers to preserve the peace by destroying any aggressor.
Don’t worry, though, Delz has failsafes in place to ensure Gort’s powers are not abused. What if Delz is absent? Eh, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. It’ll be fine.
Probably.
A limited time forum-wide ARG-like event is being developed by your Trusty TT team!
Details are being withheld to not spoil the surprise, but expect puzzles, badgers, and interactive elements only possible on the new forum software!
Let’s go onwards to more! More! More!
See you all at 4k!
But wait! This isn’t nearly the end! We have even more goals.. Secret stretchy goals!
That.. you guys already revealed… and reached, and then surpassed.
You guys are fantastic, and we’re humbled at all the support we’re getting. We’ll be hard at work making these dreams come true!
And as such, we’re proud to introduce the 2 new features:
The rotating Tagline feature, where a beloved post will be able to be turned into a tagline, and proudly shown besides our cool logo. These will be user-submitted, so you’ll have a chance to immortalize that time your post got 200 awesomes or when you got a high five from your favorite forumer.
(Artistic impression)
We’ll also be opening our Patreon page, for people who like to make a monthly donation with, currently, no benefits or rewards whatsoever, cause.. We haven’t figured those out yet.
https://www.patreon.com/coinreturn
We’re currently hard at work figuring out what all the tiers mean.
See you all tomorrow when we reveal even more of the milestones reached!

This thing is busted

Professional smug marketeers have tried to explain this to me that the second one is a "catch" in case people read over the first one.
They get paid a lot of money to sell nonsense, but on the other hand, it does work what they say.
Legos are cool, MOCs are cool, check me out on Rebrickable!
I was able to donate via the debit or credit option without signing in to PayPal.
Should I do it before or after I get the opioids?

Not at the moment, but we'll see what we can setup. What kind of thing would be handy?
(as a sidenote, Kickstarter and such platforms are probably not doable at the moment, but I'm not the finance guy)
Take care of yourself first, always.
To be clear -- we are hopefully going to raise a bunch of money and have a lot of fun with this, but no one is obligated to give anything. This community is for all of us, and those who can and do donate are helping to make that happen for everyone. No one is of lesser importance or less valued because of financial ability.
I hope that doesn't need to be said, but I don't want anyone feeling down about being too tight right now to contribute anything.
I would love this
But you just know the fuckers will just consider their personal costs as a donation of their own and just pay it forward.
Kind hearted, charitable jerks.
…wait should my NLE be smoking shit shit shit
Got it, I'll donate funds after doing drugs
What's the worst that could happen?

There are still some question marks (depending on how hosting for images/uploads shakes out, for example), but we're hoping our estimate is relatively accurate so that we have plenty of runway to make sure we're always in a good place financially.
I appreciate how quickly it is evident that Katie Marovich has never seen an internet forum.
Either is perfectly okay! We will ALSO be launching a proper recurring donation drive later on for people to kick in a few bucks a month to cover ongoing costs, but if you'd prefer to do that now via paypal instead of a lump sum, that's also cool. Or both! Or neither! I promise, your presence is enough.
But your money is also nice.
(Right thread this time..)
They spit on me.
But I was right the whole time.

You are inside a subreddit.
It is dark.
You are likely to be eaten by an incel.
Not 100% finalized yet, but we expect to have a Patreon option for recurring donations. Although as far as I can tell, the Paypal option for recurring donations actually takes less in fees, and SEEMS to work fine. In either case, Paypal will ALSO remain an option going forward in addition to whatever Patreon-style service we do.
