My main thing with Hemingway is that he has very few characters, and his world feels empty and dead in a non-artistic way. Like he's describing stick figures.
Yeah. I took a class on him, and by the end it was definitely "Oh, a woman whose man doesn't appreciate her. Do go on."
This is countered to a point by the statement-of-fact that this was ostensibly Hemingway's intent, and that the view of the world he provides in his texts is emboldened by the sometimes-unappealing method.
so... did mccain just refer to obama as 'brown noise' or did I have a minor stroke?
I caught a little bit of his speech after watching Colbert on my DVR. I was able to stand about 30 seconds of it before I had to turn it off.
I don't know why I'm so surprised by the fact that he is blatanly lying in his speech. I mean, I expect politicians to evade questions, or spin their intentions, but he is telling outright falsehoods.
I was going to join the Mornington Crescent game, but I'm way too intimidated by how awesome Oboro's posts are.
You should, and you should also make a competitor's blog. The one I have is going to start opening up into flashbacks and an off-Crescent autobiographical narrative, but I would have infinitely more material to work with if other people started creating copy as well. Just you having a name, and your name having been somewhere, at a given time, creates something that I can work off of with more heft than something entirely endemic to my own mind.
Hemingway's short stuff is, I find, more interesting than his longer stuff, because then it feels more like a poem. When he uses that horribly dry, empty world for a whole book, though, it becomes more and more difficult to give a shit about the characters or their actions or the setting at large.

Yeah, small doses of him aren't altogether horrible; I'll probably give some of his short fiction another shot sometime down the road
I wanted to fucking strangle someone by the end of Farewell to Arms though

Rather than creating a blog, I'll probably be posting excerpts from news articles and/or fan magazines from my Crescent heyday in the late 90s.

I'll take Kafka over him any day.
"So hey one day this guy woke up and he was a fucking ROACH."
You tell us. Is your boyfriend over?

what?
HE IS FRANZ KAFKA
I was just wondering if you had a "minor stroke" or not.
Technically, yes. But it's the overall impression it gives off.
I read a little, I guess
mostly I've just read other people's criticism and counter-criticism of Hemingway :V
I like the short stories
Do you think there's something wrong with us?
DVI.
Why do you want to use VGA?
Yes.
The natural thought would have been arm warmers. The length of the average otter is a perfect size and shape.
Of all the things wrong with me, I don't think this is one of them.
Maybe your puny arms.
I wanted to fucking strangle someone by the end of Farewell to Arms though
How old is it?
edit: You can get dvi-vga converters.
Hey now, I'm just trying to keep you warm.
*waves*
man, I thought my new RAM would be here today, but nooooo, now I have to wait until monday >_<
Reading "The Sun Also Rises" made me want to go and stab him.
"A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" is okay.
