    been reading a little Vonnegut

started with Slaughterhouse-Five, then went straight into Breakfast of Champions, which I think was a mistake

picked up The Sirens of Titan next, which is jarringly different. It's less of a rambling discourse on humanity and more of a weird sci-fi novel

right now I'm also reading On Stranger Tides, by Tim Powers

I grew up about 60 miles from where the Twilight series is supposed to take place. I was even engaged to a girl who'd grown up there.

But man, I cannot be fucking bothered to read those books, despite my occasional dalliance with children's lit.

    I'm a big fan of thriller/suspense novels

The Stephen King/Peter Straub collaboration The Talisman is one of my favorite novels

Close second is Shadowland by Peter Straub.

The Big Tree (or Big Cedar) is exactly what it sounds like: a really massive tree. There's a little mini-park and turn-off for it, out past First Beach (closer to Second or Ruby Beaches, I think). Teenagers often go there to...uhhhhhh...well, never mind.

And it's the Quileutes, but yes, they're the ones from La Push. I worked out that way when I was in AmeriCorps.

she didn't even write most of her stuff, and near the end I was just reading the first paragraph of each chapter and was totally able to follow what happened and where it would go. But I still loved it.
