Hmm, yeah that must be the case. Here, at least when I had very basic cable, when basketball season and hockey are going on at the same time they may not even show the hockey games.

I know college sports are usually funner to watch because (not the only reason though) they don't have the whole "I am playing this because it is my job" vibe yet. I can definitely imagine how much fun college hockey must be to watch.

I promptly dropped Hartnell and added Bertuzzi in my pool.

Now, if Datsyuk could actually bother to produce something my team might go somewhere.

    Tanguay---Datsyuk----Pominville
    Bertuzzi----Jokinen
    Hemsky
    Penner
    Savard
    Brown
    Cole
    Ribeiro
    Kessel

So as someone who sort of dropped out of following hockey for a few years:

Has Iginla always been this big a badass?

    yes

he can produce over 100 points a season, scoring 50 or more goals. he is not afraid to battle and drop the gloves. he leads by example and shows all the heart and grit a captain should

he also is really well known for being charitable. like when he played for canada at the 2002 olympics he was eating dinner at some place when he was informed there were canadians sitting next to him, so he got up and went over to talk to them and stuff and when he asked where they were staying, they told him they had been sleeping in their car. he excused himself for 15 minutes and came back and told them he had booked them rooms in the place he had been staying and paid for all of it.

the guy is the definition of a canadian hockey player

Yeah, the scoring and team leadership I knew about.

The fighting and the charity though, that's pretty sweet. I think he might be my new favorite player.

They also have Dion Phaneuf who is the most arrogant cockwad around. So, it all balances out.

Phaneuf is the cousin of my girlfriend so spare me the 'you're bitter because you're an edmonton fan' tripe. Also, I don't cheer for the Oilers.

My Wall St Wolves needs more players, right now it is just me and a friend from work playing together in the EA league.

    also, fucking rangers.

I'm skipping 09 in traditional EA Sports franchise fashion. I only buy new games during even years.

If you're actually serious, I only seem to buy the odd year sports games. I don't do it on purpose. It just works out that way.

Yeah, I am, that's how I've done it with EA Sports games for years. The two - three year cycle is about right for me.

By that time I've done enough years through my primary team in Dynasty/Franchise mode that it's predominantly no-name fake players, and the games themselves have progressed enough that its worthwhile.

I was on an odd-year cycle until I went three years between purchases, now its evens.

edit: NHL 08 was a huge step for me. Helps that I also got my first LCD TV, too =)

I love how they played Pantera after that. Hockey stadiums must have some of the best choice in music out of professional sports, I was really surprised to hear them playing Dimmu Borgir in the finals last season.

Since it has been mentioned, how are the hockey video games this year? Has anyone tried 2k9? I haven't owned a hockey game since NHL 2k5.

    edit:
I know Sharks got their asses kicked tonight. At least Thornton beat somebody up.

I have heard very good things about 2k9. Shitty that they've only released 2k7 on PSP, and it doesn't look like they're releasing any newer ones for it.

Oilers 4-0 to start the season? Now that's something I haven't seen in a while.

Actually, apparently that's something that hasn't happened since '85-'86. It's nice to be able to have optimism for once.

Also MacIntyre is great, it's nice to finally have an enforcer of our own.

Golden boy Phaneuf seems to have lost his defensive stride. At least one of the goals in last night's game can be directly attributed to him, as there's no way Pisani should've been left all alone where he was.

Honestly, it seems like the Flames D bought into their own hype a little too much, and they need to step it up or this will be a long, long season for Calgary.

Not that I'd complain, of course.

As much as bertuzzi needed to leave Vancouver I'm happy he's finally doing well.

As long as Keenan keeps him from floating on the outside he can be an amazing player
