Wonder if Arkansas is gonna keep the momentum from the end of last year.

Probably not, we lost too much defensive talent.

Most folks are predicting Arkansas to do better this season than last. The consensus is they're trending up.

I'm hoping South Carolina doesn't slip into some fresh hell.

I have not been keeping up during off-season at all.

I honestly don't know the QB situation at Bama.

    Which is a bad thing.

I don't think there's a single sports writer out there who feels comfortable predicting the SEC West this year.

I actually write descriptions for every college football game that's on TV every week on my website thingy, but it's not my forte. I can run the actual mechanics, you can do the descriptions, and we can divvy up picking the games?

I do like the format we had, with 9 games and a Game of the Week. Generally speaking, I'd like to keep the split of doing 5-6 games featuring ranked teams, and 4-5 more obscure teams. I can try to cook up something with Google Forms to automate pick submission, but I actually like having the picks in the thread because it gives us something to talk about. (If I did the Google Forms thing, I'd could probably make it spit out a BBCode formatted post as well...)

Once we agree on something, I'll spin up a new thread since I can't delete the poll in this one.

Yeah, I think that'd work. I don't know if we want to do anything against the spread, but it's an option to mix things up as well.

Yeah, I was debating with myself earlier whether we should do ATS again this year.

So let's put it to a vote:

Did y'all like picking against the spread last year? Would you like to do it again?

ATS is fine by me, if only because it adds challenge to picking games where the outcome would otherwise be pretty obvious.

I switched several games to ATS last year for the exact reason RME said. It made some games that were not pickable straight up more fun to pick on. I think the combo worked well (there was no set # of games on either style of picks).

I give multiple thumbs up to the Google Form. I would suggest UCLA instead of California-Los Angeles.

I vastly prefer the spread, and for it to be about games that we are gonna want to watch.

Because yeah, we might be fans of certain teams, but we all know that betting on a winner ain't the same as betting on a team.

    I definitely prefer ATS.

Agreed with all of the above.

There's an r/cfb post with sec teams as harry potter characters. USC got 'Ron Weasley. It took them a while to be recognized as an important player and they're not really ever going to be the lead, but Spurrier's got that whole comedic relief thing going on.' and I ain't even mad.

I'm down with however you guys want to run it (ATS vs Straight). The form looks good as well, though yeah, didn't recognize UCLA at first either. Will there be a way to switch mid-week just in case of injuries/general shenanigans?

    Looking forward to the season.

    I'll also vote ATS.

Also also, Snoop Dogg's kid (a 4 star recruit) has decided to give up football but still wants to stay at UCLA.

True story. Someone the other day was talking about the Georgia Institute of Technology and I was wondering for a few seconds "huh, where in Georgia is that?" until it clicked. I have a degree from that university.

One of my, um, "things" is that I like to type out the full names of schools usually referred to as abbreviations. So Southern California, Louisiana State, Texas Agricultural and Mechanical, etc.

I do leave "Techs" as is, though, partially because I'm a Georgia Tech fan and partially because being arbitrary is occasionally fun.

Texas A&M does not stand for Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College (anymore).

In 1963, the 58th Legislature of Texas approved of Rudder's changes, and officially renamed the school "Texas A&M University",[30] specifying that the "A" and the "M" were purely symbolic, reflecting the school's past, and no longer stood for "Agricultural and Mechanical".

    Huh. Well, that's no fun.

He made a shitty football program in Texas relevant. I doubt it.

EDIT: It is possible the Dave Bliss thing makes them think twice about it though.

If I'm being honest, I probably should just be grateful that Marshall and Memphis didn't manage to sneak in there.

Speaking of which; WKU getting one vote while Marshall isn't even mentioned gives me life.

The bad part about the pre-season poll is it always filters into the regular season. "We predicted USC to be #3! I know they've lost four in a row, so they're only at #13..."

UCLA finally announced Josh Rosen as starting QB so this charade can finally end and UCLA can claim its rightful place as LA's true team.

Preliminary results of an investigation into allegations of player mistreatment are the proximate cause here.

He was telling players to hide injuries from the medical staff and pulling seniors' scholarships for their Spring semester (you know, the one you'd graduate in). So yeah...

I didn't believe it until that post there where the guy called the play dead because someone got blocked too hard.

Dumb shit like this happens every single week.

Also Pac 12 teams always end up near the top of penalty yards, and then as soon as they get to play a game with non-Pac 12 refs, they end up with 0 penalties. HMM I WONDER WHY.
