Guys, while the main BGS comic continues to suck like nothing else, the first issue of the Zarek mini was actually quite good.

I stab you multiple times in your typing appendages.

By the way, porno movies and mags are fun, and override any desires one might have for seeing Galactica chicks naked. Porno mags and movies don't work in reverse--they will never be as good for fulfilling Godhead science fiction like BSG; they're only good for basic, straight, full-on wanking, and that's fine.

Point being: why would anyone want to get all hot and bothered about chicks from a TV series getting semi-nude when one can just download, rent, or borrow from a close, sticky friend a full-on porn mag, DVD or VHS tape?

Keep your wanking and your Sci Fi seperate. It's best that way, lest we have to deal with another round of Star Trek Vulcan\Borg sluts in tight tops reading shitty dialogue from bad scripts.

...These last few posts have only served to heighten my anticipation for the return of the show for which this thread was created to discuss.

    Here's a fun story though:

Last night I was introduced to some people who were visiting Perth from Sydney. I'm talking to this guy and his girl, we were having that sort of awkward 'so.. what's up!' kind of conversation. With nothing to lose I decided to gamble and so asked if these people watched Battlestar Galactica.

They bought me beer until 3am!

Working part time at the Movie Gallery I have managed to turn a few people on to both Battlestar and Serenity/Firefly. I should get a commision from Wal-Mart.

When ever someone mentions they want a good story, action and are not afraid of Sci-Fi I will first ask if they have seen Serenity, most will say no so we go there first. Then I offer the First disk of Season 1 Battlestar to get them the mini-series. I usually tell how I had rented the mini-series on recomendation of friends (you guys) and had popped it in to fall asleep too. 3 Hours later I was considering usuing my store key at 4am to get the rest of the disks.

Most people will come back and ask if we have Firefly in wich case I have to send them to Wal-Mart to pick it up for $28, and if we have the rest of BSG we do but then I mention that season 3 is on Space and when. Most end up picking up the seasons at Wal-Mart and then watching on Space. The only problem with this is I can never get season 1 or 2.5 to buy cause they are all gone again.

Makes me feel good that I am doing my part to widen the viewership of BSG.

After I bought this little Titanium Series model,

    titbsgg.jpg

I used it as a paper weight during classes, but it became a beacon for bringing BSG fans out of the woodwork, ranging from people who watched it only occasionally or borrowed DVDs from the university library to those who had formed whole discussion groups around the series and downloaded each episode through iTunes to analyze in detail.

Exodus II is one of the most popularly talked about.

I'm trying to turn both my brother and a co-worker onto BSG. My brother should be easy - he used to watch the old series, likes Firefly, and seemed happy when I got him the miniseries for Christmas. The co-worker will be a harder sell. He's never heard of the series (not even the old one), and says that he "likes shows like Star Trek". I told him BSG is just like Star Trek just to get him to check it out, and hopefully when he does, he'll keep watching it despite the fact that I lied to him. We'll see how it goes.

Man, 24 tonight and BSG a week from tonight. It just doesn't get any better.

I have to say, I run into massive prejudice when I'm trying to sell this show to people. People screw up their faces and turn away, "No, no, no." They don't want to hear anything about it. I've been finding it very difficult to convince people to get on board.

The conversations generally go like this:

Me: So do you watch Battlestar Galactica?
    Them: LOL NO.
Me: Man! It's one of the best shows on TV right now!
    Them: LOL WHATEVER.
Me: No, really. And it's not Star Trek. It's not about aliens and warp drives and crisis of the week. It's political, it's relevant, it's about all that meaty stuff in the grey area between right and wrong. It has sexy robot girls and some of the hottest dudes on TV!
Them: YEAH, I HAVE TOO MANY SHOWS TO CARE ABOUT RIGHT NOW.

I've managed to get a grand total of about 5 people to care about this show. All this resistance bothers me! And you know, with all the hype surrounding LOST I went out and bought the first season. What the fuck.

Lost sucks. It's X-Files on an island, but without the convenience of changing of the mystery with a clear conscience since it follows an arc. If you recommend Battlestar Galactica to people, be sure to throw in things like "Peabody Award" and "Time/Rolling Stone Magazine's best show of 2005" as early in the conversation as possible. You'd be surprised how many people are receptive to those kinds of plugs. You should also mention its accessibility, how anyone can just tune into it at any time and get sucked in. People hate it when they have to rent past seasons to know exactly what's going on or why they should care.

Actually, yes, using South Park winning a peabody is a good segue to start talking about Battlestar (They got up to accept their award and just talked about how awesome Battlestar Galactica is!). One day I will develop the perfect sales pitch and ensure it's ongoing popularity!

It's out. The pics are alright, but it's not full frontal folks, sorry. Just the jubblies, and lots of pics from side angles with her clothes off. There are quite a few of them though, so that's a plus.

As for selling BSG to the mass public (Read: Fucking Idiots who watch CSI and crap shows, don't try to tell me CSI is good TV!) it's a mostly lost cause. Soon as you tell them the shows title they look at you funny. I am still trying to force my friends to watch it, and they will watch anything for no good reason other than to waste time. I even lend out my season disc sets for christs sake, and I still have to strongarm them to even see it! (Which no, they still fucking haven't)

I watched it with my step-dad over the christmas break, he really wasn't sure that he wanted to watch it but I stole the remote control. He was kinda enjoying it and kept asking me questions, the look on his face when he asked who Kara was and I replied "Starbuck" was priceless.

He enjoyed it once he got into it and realised that it wasn't just "the old one with new actors".

I have a friend who doesn't like BSG. He doesn't like the fact that they have advanced technology like jump drives and Cylons, but other than that their technology is on-par with ours. He says it's not realistic that their technology would only advance for these two specific applications, and remain stagnant otherwise. He prefers more realistic shows, like Star Trek.

I kid you not. That's what he said. More realistic shows, like Star Trek.

Did you show him the scene from the miniseries where they explain exactly that? They did have much more advanced technology, but the Cylons were able to exploit it during the war, so they "looked backwards to their past" and began to use archaic technology that the Cylons couldn't turn against them.

Did you ask him how realistic it was that the aliens all spoke English and were basically ethnic stereotypes with differently-shaped foreheads? Or why the characters never developed in any meaningful way and every planet encountered had a hospitable atmosphere? If everything else fails, throw him this link:
