Cabs (with Crown Black Car as recommended being the first choice) are the default option, but I suppose we could do vans, or if pressed I've drawn up bus instructions (did that one myself in '04). There's always a way.

    Oh Thank You!

Three guys coming with me are Zyn, Tsavo, and Cross. Yeah. We sound like a futuristic jazz/rock band.

Just look for the short girly with a buncha guys.

My group decided to take a cab to the hotel. With the combo of being lazy and a ton of luggage it just seemed more practical.

Godspeed you crazy bastards. I took the Coast Starlight from Seattle to San Diego by myself last year and it was not fun at all. Very long delays for freight, random stops for police.. though I guess with a bunch of gamers it would be much better. :)

Yeah, it's no fun alone (I thought you were gonna Supertrip it with us last year. What happened?)

However, when you've got other gamers, it's a bit better.

Have fun with it. Dress as the gaming gestapo and demand to see people's game cartridge. Make it your personal goal to interrogate everyone on the train.

I expect a long trenchcoat and a tall military cap with the Mario mushroom on it. You will provide those, no?

Well yes I do have a trench, and I bet I could throw something together. Although I would want to be very careful on how I do it.

It would be a long black trenchcoat, in august, in LA. Also there would be a good chance I could be mistaken for other trenchcoat wearing persons. Lets face it LA is not known for being free of gang violence.

However, I bet I could through something acceptable together. Im not sure if a red arm band with a mushroom on it would be in good taste though.

HEADS UP! PRICES HAVE GONE UP!

They will continue to do so until departure day, so BUY YOUR TICKETS ASAP.

Edit: Updated price sheet on page 1, and added Salem. Doesn't look like the Cascades price has gone up yet, but it will soon.

Btw, it looks like business class seats have a higher chance of power outlets. Those seem recommended if you don't mind the extra charge. I still need to find out about bringing my computer along. and checking it. I just hope my computer strap will strap onto the box itself. I might remove the hard disk for travel and keep it with my carryon and let the rest of the computer just ride right along.in checked baggage.

Im still tentative, depends on how soon I start working again, But Ill actually be able to go back to work again this month since Ill finally have my CPAP machine tomorrow for my sleep apnea crap, about fucking time. I noticed the prices for the train are still the same, any idea how long I might have in order to book at that price? And does it get paid when you book it, or when you get there?

Riiight, so after a few manic months of completely failing to organise myself, I had a productivity day and bought myself a ticket! I was holding out until I sorted out my IYTC (like the ISIC card but for people who have unfortunately grown up a bit) only to discover that it didn't offer me the same discount. Owned :(

If anyone's going to be bumming around in LA beforehand and has nothing to do, give me a shout. I'll be getting there on the 16th.

Well considering LA got like 20 or so people showing up we could try to meet up for dinner the night before

Disclaimer: I am not volunteering to organize a dinner event but just tossing the idea out there.

Yes. Though I think Amtrak will let you catch a later train instead. I don't know for sure, though. You should call them first.

Two more friends are going to be joining me coming from Eugene. So a total of four including myself in my group. Also we are probably all going to be bringing laptops along but not all of us have the latest and greatest laptops. Any ideas on older multiplayer games that would run ok on an older laptop? I'm already trying to hookup Warcraft, Starcraft, and Half-life. Anybody else got any other good ideas though? I'm also considering bringing my GHII guitar and hooking up the Frets on Fire on the train, but I'm not sure.

Anyone know how Amtrak would feel about me getting off the train early on the way back from seattle? I plan on staying at my sisters at goletta and was wondering if the crew would care if I got off there instead of LA (LA is farther away).

Odds are your L.A. ticket was a bit more expensive anyway. I doubt the crew would care unless you had them help you with your luggage or something.

    Awesome.

In other news I went past Downtown LA yesterday and decided to see what kind of breakfast options WCT travelers have for the morning of departure. Unfortunately the mexican ancestry in me cried when I saw that olviera street isnt open at 9 in the morning. However Denny's is right around the corner and 5 minute walk from union station.

So I was thinking about setting us up a breakfast thingy for those of us who are getting on in LA. Eat some pancakes, perhaps meet someone cool and split the cost of a pie, get really into a DS game and run frantically for the station when you realize it leaves in 10 minutes (which I hope happens to no one). It would not be a table set in advance. Just when you get there get a table and look around for other gamer-type people. Im wondering how many of you are open to doing something like that.
