This is not a Twilight or Godwin thread. More hot video game chicks, please.
I personally chalk the whole thing up to the fact that Video Games are not considered "art" yet. You can't thing something is beautiful until society agree with you that it's ok now.

Have we gotten to the fucked up birth scene in the Twilight series? I always love it when the discussion gets there.
Someone brought up romance novels earlier and it got me to thinking: the imagination is a huge part of why text and 2D images can come across as sexier or more beautiful than 3D. When you leave everything to the imagination as in the case of text or everything but the image in the case of 2D pictures, you allow the viewer's imagination to fill in with their personal concepts of beauty. When you animate it or model it, it starts to erode that imagination until you end up with something that just doesn't match what the person finds attractive anymore. A 2D image of a sexy lady is really easy to do because the viewer will fill in the gaps while a fully fleshed out 3D model of a sexy lady with enough animations, polygons, flesh layers, hairs, and whatnot to make her come across as not only human but genuinely sexy is extremely tough to do.
Someone brought up 2D sexier than 3D earlier and it got me to thinking: the imagination is a huge part of why CG movies and CGI (computer generated images) can come across as sexier or more beautiful than real life. When you leave everything but the image in the case of CGI or what they would look like in real life in the case of CG movies, you allow the viewer's imagination to fill in with their personal concepts of beauty. When you see it in real life and completely exposed, it starts to erode that imagination until you end up with something that just doesn't match what the person finds attractive anymore. A CGI of a sexy lady is really easy to do because the viewer will fill in the gaps while a fully fleshed out playboy magazine foldout of a sexy lady with enough powder, eye shadow, hair gel, air brushing, and whatnot to make her come across as not only human but genuinely sexy is extremely tough to do.
CGI such as video games can be beautiful. You know. The topic of this thread.
I'm confused, were you attacking me or something? Your post was poorly done and attached to a topic (attraction to real women) that has nothing to do with the topic at hand (finding beauty in traditional art versus video games).
I thought the topic was only finding beauty in video games. My post isn't an attack on Opty, but more of using Opty's sound logic towards a different application.
Just like homosexuality, pedophilia, or any other differentiating sexual interests it's merely a symptom of both your brain chemistry and to some extent your upbringing.
I can see your point here, but I'm a little offended by this sentence. Heterosexuality also falls under this, of course, as do objectosexuality and more. There is a difference, though, between 'wrong' and 'weird'. I'm not sure that comparing this sort of thing to paedophilia is going to go anywhere - they are very separate.
I figured it might seem like I'm equating the two, but I'm not. I apologize, however as it might seem that way.
You know, I don't know anything about Twighlight other than it has vampires and that Paramore band did some sort of song for it, and I only read that "Breaking Dawn: The One With The Vampire Fucking" part, but man, it sounded like the stupidest shit ever.
One important part of being an artform, I think, is progression.
We've gone from this:
to this:
And beyond that, many different styles have developed. You have the photorealism of most triple A titles, the moving painting style of games like Okami or Muramasa: the demon blade, and more.
In regards to eroticism in games, its no stranger than erotic novels, and smutty romance novels have been a lucrative and widespread market for centuries.
So whatever gets you off is a-okay with me, as long as it doesn't hurt anybody that doesn't want to be hurt.

This is pretty much my position as well
I mean, I might not be your friend, and I might disapprove and perhaps mock you, but whatever gets you off ain't my business so why are you telling me anyway
Hah! There are times where PS2 games are difficult to screencap.
That is one of them.
EDIT: Horrible top't. Better include some progression or something.
So, we've gone from this...
To this..
Now, I'm not saying the older engine is devoid of artistic value, but it does make things trickier. Likewise, the newer engine gives you a lot more opportunities, I would say (at more cost).
Incidentally, finding SCIV images not featuring copius T&A is tricky.
Eh, I thought about what game and character to use as an example of modern rendering. I settled on Harley because she's a sexually-charged character, but not as blatant as, say, Ivy.
Lara Croft from Tomb Raider: Legend would have been a good example as well. Nothing particularly erotic about her outfit, but what is concealed is left to the imagination, which does a far better job than anything modern computing can put out.

Also an incredibly obscure cross-reference to Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterson.
So basically what you're telling us is we need a newer, better thread title?

Is that who she is?
Honestly, I was wondering myself. That, and kind of cringing. A little.
Somebody hasn't played the incredibly excellent Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Rectify this good sir.

That is literally the opposite of irony.
That is exactly what you would expect.

Yeah, pretty much.
