Does pressing the spacebar trigger the ''not ready'' sound effect if a weapon is on a cooldown? I could see how that could be annoying if I start using something like autohotkey. :?
Hah. Somewhere, tucked away in a database, my tauren shaman is still saying "I can't do that yet" over and over and over.
Does anyone have a list of what all these stats do?
like +5 Tackyon Emitter. What the hell?
Also, what is the cutoff date for buying a lifetime sub? My friend will have money next week for one, but wanted to borrow cash to get it early. Trying to see if there's a reasonable cutoff, cause I don't know him THAT well...
Give the game a little bit of the break. There isn't going to be much ship variety because everyone is still in the lvl 1-10 range.
Eventually the ships will change and we'll have new players joining in the game and flying in the Sol system on their little Maranda and suddenly a bigass Soverign will come out of warp and fly past them and they'll be like... "Damn..."
I have to agree with this, towards the end of open beta someone flew into one of the instances I was in with a Constitution class ship and was on our team for the fight, she was a beauty to behold next to my own little rinky dink ship...
Too bad you didn't fly into the instance where there were a Sovereign or Avenger then, they are three times the size of the Connie.
You have to have pre-orderd it already, and the cut off is Feb 1st if I recall, once the game launches it jumps up to 300 and you do not get the perks that are currently being offered... Specifcally the playable Borg character which has Borg Nanites and gives +10% Health Regeneration on ground missions to constantly regenerates shields and health. In soace you get +5 Starship Shield Efficiency, +5 Starship Engine Efficiency, +5 Starship Energy Weapon Efficiency, +5 Starship Auxiliary Systems Efficiency. Provides a bonus to efficiency stats, improving the effectiveness of many of your power management abilities. You can also add a Neural blast trait which will debuff your enemy for 30 seconds. Drastically reduces run speed. Every 4 seconds, Neural Blast has a 40% chance to hold the target for 3 seconds. It is an activatable ground trait. Inject the target with neural toxins, which continually attempt to hold the target for the duration. Also reduces the target's movement speed. You also get two additional character slots.
My only regret is not ordering from Amazon, where I would've gotten a Borg Bridge Officer, but that's ok because I'm sure they'll let them be bought later on... If they let the playable borg character become purchaseable I might get upset, but as a whole it means I've invested $300 on the game, but as long as I play it for at least two years I'll have made up for the cost of it... Which is quite likely to happen with my gamer focus shifting from "hardcore" to "casual" since becoming a father, this is quite likely to be the game I play until my son is old enough to play games with me. Scary to think about it.

I can imagine... I'm looking forward to trying on a Galaxy class ship, I doubt the saucer will seperate, but it'd still be a nice behemoth to fly around in.

Congrats. I'm sort of in the same boat in a sense that my GF and her son are moving in with me in June. Which means less game time for me and more step-daddy'in. Luckily he's 10, so who knows, he may wanna play. Plus, $240 now doesn't have to be mentioned when she gets here, whereas $15 a month would.

The Galaxy is among the biggest ships the Feds can fly, I did however find it a bit top heavy to look at, but with a few alterations it can look quite good.
My favorite ship was definitely the Noble, a variant on the Sovereign design and it seemed to be very popular with people in general, hanging around Earthdock I got tons and tons of whispers asking what the fuck I was flying.
Got the Wrath of Khan Admiral outfit coupon to work, finally... Found the page to put it in on accident... Now if only I could get the Del Taco code I'd be happy... Damn promotions not being available everywhere...
I'm thinking it might be that money will be better spent on a second preorder rather than a lifetime.
I have no desire to play a rescued borg, but I do want at least two of the following three things: Red Matter Capacitor, Automated Defense Battery, or the Neodymium Deflector Dish.
My question is: Do these pre-order items take up equipment slots that are better spent on much better things?
They seem to be equipment ergo you will be getting better stuff for those slots later, they are likely just Ensign capable items that have the strenght for lt comm or comm items.
I got as far as Tier 2 (Lt. Commander) on both a Federation and a Klingon character, so I don't have any experience with the game beyond the 11-13 level range.
Federation missions can be broken up into 4 major categories:
1) Story - These are scripted stories called "Episodes." Most of these are very good. They are very combat heavy, but the stories are genuinely a lot of fun. There are a few throw-backs and fun little surprises for fans of the various tv series.
2) Patrol - These are very simple, non-linear missions in which you are given a list of systems to visit. When you arrive at each system, one of your officers will pop up on screen and tell you what you have to do. Most of the time the individual patrol objectives tend to be along the lines of "Defeat X number of Orion space pirate squadrons" or something like that. These are non-story missions which are very combat heavy.
3) Exploration - These missions are similar in form to the patrol missions. You are given a list of systems to visit. When you arrive, you'll be given an objective. The objectives for these are more along the lines of "scan for X number of anomalies" or "beam to the planet and scan X samples of crazy alien plants."
4) Sector Defense - These are combat only missions which are repeatable and have a very simple objective. Go into the orange Deep Space Encounter portals and complete the objective on the map. Usually you have to do this 3 times to finish the quest. The DSE maps all have similar shared objectives that all players in the zone contribute to: Kill X number of Klingon ships.
The game is very combat heavy. I cannot stress enough how combat heavy this game is. Cryptic missed the mark for the "feel of Star Trek." It looks like Star Trek, but it doesn't feel like it. It feels like a science fiction combat simulator with a Star Trek skin.
If you're looking for character interactions, puzzle solving, or "boldly going," this game fails to deliver. If you like shooting lasers and pew pew pew, then this game will be right up your alley.
The Klingon experience is pretty broken right now. The only PvE they have is a series of repeatable grinding quests that just send out out to kill outrageous amounts of Federation ships. Most of their leveling is done by participating in PvP and completing PvP quests such as "Kill X number of enemy ship captains."
Can you send red shirts to their doom and/or stand behind them as they die agonizing deaths?
At the early levels that would be a yes. Unfortunately after a while your away team gets filled up with loyal Bridge Officers, so no Red Shirts. However, I was very happy to hear that apparently Tactical Captain's get a level 35 ability which lets them call in Red Shirts as cannon fodder!
Yeah, it's really Star Trek at war. Not really a bad thing though, since the space combat is fun.
Here are a few things that I liked in the game:
-pretty ships! also, space is beautiful
-bridge officer management
-storylines linked with the shows and movies
-automatic grouping in instances, and alternatively the fact that you can solo ground missions with your NPC away team
-space combat is really fun
-character creation and ship customization are very nice
When I played I never "lost" a single away team member, when I co-oped with others they could get "killed" but I was always able to revive them.
Yep. At level 17 I only ever saw one of my Bridge Officers down once, plus I had one complete Away Team wipe after I got killed and decided to watch and see what happened if I didn't bother reviving. My character on the other hand, definitely went down on a fair number of occasions.

You can of course still take redshirts instead of bridge officers.

I was never able to get this working. While I had the "Open Grouping" option turned on, I always just got instance errors and was unable to enter certain zones. I had to disable that option just so I could play.
Never once did I actually get placed in a group upon entering a zone.
You get a skill that summon 2 Red Shirt "Security Escort" characters that fight with you an your team, through use of Tactical initiative you can get that to 4 Security Escort though so I had 9 man away team on my Admie :P at least for the big fights.

That's a bummer it didn't work for you. I actually made quite a few friends with the open grouping feature. When I could actually get people to talk. I did probably 4 missions with open grouping and not one bad experience.

What's up with the bright Red ship?
If you notice, there is a small Roundabout behind the connie aswell that is glowing pink for the same reason.
Makes the ship immune to tractor beams and gives energy resistance to the hull.

Except the playable Borg, I'm not likely to replace him...

I did almost lose a very important story character in one mission though, but I think the whole "lose" possibility wasn't there though.
Getting shot in space lets you lose lots of red shirts though, or at least you can pretend they were all red shirts hehe.
