Man if we replace grant with anyone it should be Sherman.
If we thought we could get Georgia to openly revolt over it, I'd jump right on that bandwagon.

If Georgia Openly revolts it'll be "Sherman's March II: This time its personal"

    From Andrew Sullivan today:
No I haven't gone soft. It's just very hard to remain serious in the face of this farce of a politician/celebrity. Here's her analysis of the president's and Bob Gates' marginal recalibration of US nuclear policy:

"It's unbelievable. Unbelievable. No administration in America's history would, I think, ever have considered such a step that we just found out President Obama is supporting today. It's kinda like getting out there on a playground, a bunch of kids, getting ready to fight, and one of the kids saying, 'Go ahead, punch me in the face and I'm not going to retaliate. Go ahead and do what you want to with me.'

Seriously. We're supposed to take this seriously? Then we get this far-right conspiracy theory:

"Steps towards insolvency. Steps towards socialism with some of their programs."

The insolvency reference is clearly designed to echo the far right theory that for some reason Obama wants to bankrupt the US in order to take over the entire economy and run it like the Soviet Union's. Obama was trapped into responding. But there is no response to this kind of, well, playground taunts. Which, of course, is why they're effective.

And so you return to the Palin conundrum. The sheer crudeness of her rhetoric, the vast ignorance it champions, and the charisma of a beautiful white woman rallying heartland male voters against commie evil is a combination it's simply impossible to grapple with effectively.

She can plagiarize Slate writers in a stream of consciousness at the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers Convention, and chirpily host a clip show, and headline Tea Party events with writing on her hand ... and somehow remain a credible figure, getting world-weary, post-everything encomiums from the likes of David Carr. And the sane WTF response - how does one do otherwise? - simply feeds the Palin media machine.

That's why I remain so concerned about her and what her future candidacy for president could do to this country and the world.

That's why she really is to be feared.

On the one hand, a concentrated effort to reveal her as a complete fuckwit would be the only sensible course of action for the primary candidates. On the other hand, it would be dangerous if LimBeckAnnity decide to denounce anyone who crosses her, and I doubt any current potentials have that much spine.

That was just some random commenter.
On energy policy, she said "the left has waged a multi-front war on conventional resources." Palin dismissed the president's decision to open up some offshore areas for drilling, saying, "they banned more offshore drilling than they allowed." She said the administration had purposely built a delay into opening the areas "to give environmentalists more time to sue."

"Let's drill, baby, drill, not stall, baby, stall," said Palin.

She said the president had opened up drilling in certain areas to help win support for his energy policy, but that he is "not going to find bipartisanship down there."

Palin argued that the president is "trying to play both sides against the middle" and is pushing a policy that will "destroy jobs and impose a new national tax on energy on all of us."

    o_O

Ugggh, the gall of this woman. That entire statement is nothing but hyperbolic, through your teeth lies. How is it possible she's till taken seriously?

If you bitch about offshore drilling, than Obama tries to kickstart some, and then bitch even more, it makes it look like sour grapes republicans. Sure the 15% core of radicalized tea baggers eat that shit up, and obviously the media too since teabaggers generate clicks, but the rest of this country won't. Tea baggers are a shrinking demographic of white people, whites will be minority in a less than 10 years, talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Huckabee has some pretty wacky principles that he (I presume) is very devoted to, so I can see how he could be viewed as scary. On the other hand, Palin seemingly has no problem saying or doing whatever strikes her as a politically beneficial in the heat of the moment with no reflection on how it might play out. I've yet to see any evidence that she has any strong principles out side of "rarr liberals bad," and she is one of the key leaders of the cut-off-your-nose-to-spite-your-face crowd.

Huckabee is at least a predictable kind of wacky. Who the fuck knows what Palin would do as head of the nation.

But then I'll be sad because what the fuck, America
Okay, yes I do care :P I fully expect it to be 1984 but for Dems. I also expect Obama to get > 60% of the popular vote, and Palin to get < 30%

Yeah, I was going to say... before the spoiler edit. I mean, Obama already has, according to gallup, 50 approval rating, and that's without any campaigning or funding. Palin, last polling I saw, was something like 30. According to the Research 2000 polls the GOP in general is about 27.

Palin running? Not a deal. Palin winning the primary? Hilarious proof that the GOP has reeeeeeeeeeeeally gone off the deep end. Palin winning the presidency? Only if "double digits" counts as good polling.

...that explains it. That's the whole thing.

She's not talkin' English the way people do. She has to put it through three different online translation engines and then has someone spell it out phonetically on her cue cards, papers, and hand. We're mocking this poor woman when it's just the fault of incompetent translators.

Actually I hope Palin does get a chance to run against Obama. That way we can see how many stone cold crazy people live and vote in the US. It would also give me a chance to figure out which people I associate with I should never attempt a political conversation with.

I love whenever the Newt wagon picks up steam for a bit until someone remembers the horrible, terrible earth shattering skeletons in his closet that ended the "permanent moral majority" for good.

Just to be clear, what are these things again in case I have to remind anyone I'm arguing with?

I wasn't politically aware during the 90's so a lot of this Clinton era stuff is not too remembered in my head.

While wasting tax payers money trying to get our sitting president impeached for lying about a blow job he was also cheating on his cancer riddled wife, who he divorced among other things.

I read today that Huckabee probably won't be running.

    That's too bad.

I enjoy him so much more than Romney. I bet the fight between he and Palin would have been hilarious.

Well, remember, Obama said in 2004 and '05 that he wouldn't run in '08.
