So the iPad version is supposed to work on iPad 1 right?

    If so then awwww yeah.

    I wish . . . but I don't think it works on a first-generation iPad. Which makes me sad.

I'm getting it on PC anyway, but I would have bought it twice to get a portable version.

played abit, just got out of candlekeep.

there are some weird fucking changes, not complaining just seem to be weird, such as when leaving candlekeep for the first time instead of gorion casting protection from evil on you a random guy in purple robes does and walks off...

the new none-npc portraits are nice but they look like they fit more with iwd style than bg. the mouse wheel zooming is nice.

the new circles under party members seem to be coloured in via that characters own minor and major appearance colours. which is a weird change.

chapter menus are nicer now, and everything feels like baldurs gate with a new interface. the text is fucking huge though. and alot of the new menu stuff seems aimed at the ipad market, such as the large text and quicksave buttons on the side bar, that kind of thing. and theres a store/dlc menu in the main menu too.

its still baldurs gate, still has that sound and feel.

Should be, depends on Apple approval process I believe.

The one they already sent to Apple came up with a crash bug so they had to fix it and resubmit for approval

black pits seems like it might be pretty good. everything is voiced so far. every damn line and done pretty well (in the amusing comedy dwarf thick-accented characters.)

using the default party but there seems to be story and more than just an arena.

I know there was a lot of talk about the Infinity Engine being mostly cobbled-together code; maybe in order to make it less patchwork they couldn't have Gorion, presumably a mage, casting protection from evil, which IIRC was only for clerics?

So did they actually wind up adding Baldur's Gate 2 style dialogue for the original party members, like was being vaguely hinted at?

I think the new intro is better, but not that much better. Also the "I can show you the others" line should've been kept.

I do think if they were going to redo it, they should've done so in the style of the BG2 intro though. That one is much better than either of the BG1 versions.

    i found him
in the Friendly Arm Inn, just chilling out, drinking. doesnt want to join up though, figured its a questline or something that sets off later

also the fmv for the friendly arm inn is a tad jarring, no epic swooping and the music seems to end suddenly unlike the original and hastily done. the resting one is okay though.

dont think so, havent seen anything like that so far, maybe they have with the new characters... i think they decided to leave the rest of the original characters since bg1npc mod does the job for them. should of included it, i remember hearing about them wanting to included a few of the mods in the base game but it doesnt look like they went for it.

Of course, I probably don't have much room to talk, since I've done several Magic-Users from level 1 in BG1, and that's so fun yessiree.

that shit is the primary reason I don't ever replay BG1. I've played through BG2 maybe a dozen times over the years, but the first third or so of the first one is just ass, and it's ass because 2E is stupid about low level characters.

Nope, there is a mage version. If fact, you wanted to cast it before you started summoning big bads from scary planes.

In seriousness, Ranger/Cleric is actually lots of fun, but absurdly powerful (thanks to a bug). I actually think every class is a blast in BG, so I'm probably the wrong person to comment on this, but try some of the atypical classes, i.e. vanilla druid, bounty hunter, wizard slayer (without dual classing), etc. It's a ton of fun, figuring out how to deal with the harder encounters with those classes, particularly if you play solo. With difficulty mods. :P

Heh, I hear you--I played enough Monks and casters in PnP D&D 2E to know the pain of protecting your delicate little flower until they can blossom into a death machine.

But I shall play a Monk, I shall name him Glas Canon of Fragile . . . and I shall reload my saves many, many times.

In BG, Ranger/Clerics have access to druidic spells based on their cleric levels, rather than their ranger levels, like they should. So they get full access to high level druid spells that a ranger wouldn't get (rangers are capped at level 4 spells, if I remember properly).

that's not really a bug. I don't really care for the class that much anyway, ranger levels up very slowly and fighter/druid feels more powerful simply because of how much faster you level up to get higher level spells and HLAs. druid leveling does tapper off a bit in tob, but you will get those level 5 and 6 spells much sooner in soa.

Yeah, you definitely hit the mid-levels faster, though at high levels, ranger/cleric is much more powerful. Also, in my opinion, cleric spells synergize better with fighters than druid spells.

Though what makes you say it's not a bug? It's certainly not following the 2E rules.

i think im gonna stick with tutu for awhile longer, the blurry huge hud and huge text is giving me a headache, lack of mod support (yeah i know its too early) and some weird random bugs like archers walking right up to targets to fire are pissing me off. missing fmv's and the new ones feeling too cartoonish too.

mostly the blurry hud elements though. will have to hear other peoples impressions of the new content.

Ranger/Cleric (at least for the multiclass version) is also powerful partially due to the happy accident of the Cleric's restricted weapons being among the best in the game, at least in BG2, and the Ranger half of it gives you a bunch of free proficiency points to toss around into stuff.

Okay, a fun class kit to play in BG1?

    Stalker, the Ranger class kit.

It's fighty enough to be good in a stand-up brawl, is one of the best scouts in the game, has some interesting spells (though I'm not sure you get to them in BG1), and the backstab is nice. Plus it benefits from high Constitution.

This is also a good suggestion. You could also try playing a specialist mage that loses access to some of the schools you typically rely on.

And you don't have to solo. I won't make you. :bz
