Isn't most fish from fish and chip shops in the States shark? Where we are it's usually (unless otherwise stated/ordered) some type of shark fried in batter

The sharks' vengeance will be swift and violent

Almost always cod or some other mass processed whitefish here

And I'm super surprised that you find it that often down under

    what

I find this incredibly hard to believe

most battered fish is some kind of whitefish, like cod, but usually the cheaper, more common bottomfeeder whitefish

shark, as an apex predator, are far, far fewer in number and are far, far harder to catch then whitefish

the majority of places that are decent will have different types of fish and they'll be listed as such, ie snapper n chips, coral trout n chips etc; but if it's just listed as 'fish' it's often a species of small shark or this catfish from vietnam and thailand (possibly other places too) called Basa

here's a link to the wikipedia page that talks about it.

Long story short, come the shark revolution, australians will be the first against the wall:P

Basa is probably more common in the US than any of those fish listed on the flake page, but I wouldn't expect to find any of them on the east coast. Basa is decent though.

I always like the comedian Steve Hughes and his take on his native country's dangerous animals. I wish I could find the clip, but his story is about being in Ireland and talking to people about the dangerous beasties and vermin in Australia, all while standing in front of a mural of men in black hoods holding automatic weapons.

His response to the Irish was simply "yeah, but the crocs, spiders, and snakes don't have machine guns mate".

He seems like a nice guy, and he's got a great voice even if his music isn't my thing. His face is still fucked up though. Also now I'm interested in those genitals.
