Fallout New Vegas: [INT\CHA <2] FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, WITH THEIR WORDS NARF DARF

WATCH THE GOD DAMN SPOILERS

Seriously, the game is less than a week old in some places and not even out for a bunch of others and people're getting careless about spoiling shit. If you want to talk about some spoilerous material, give it a good and proper label and warning of some sort above the spoiler button, like the name of the quest or the name of the location or the name of the character if the name alone isn't a gigantic-ass spoiler, and don't be using spoiler tags for stupid shit like hiding emotes and whatever.

Looking for the armor suit on the game cover? That's Ranger Combat Armor, and you're gonna' ahve to kill a dude to get it, so stop asking.

Looking for mods and the like? The New Vegas Nexus, fulfilling your pathetic sexual obsessions since mod#1, has you covered.

Wanna' mod shit yourself? Grab the NV GECK and drop it in your main NV directory. THE OLD GECK WILL NOT WORK.

Got framerate problems and the like? Take a look at this.

STEAM PLAYERS TAKE HEED! DISABLE STEAM CLOUD!
It's already been said a bunch and supposedly the latest PC patch fixes this, but if you're using Steam to play New Vegas and have Steam Cloud running it'll fuck up your quick and autosaves, if not also your manual ones. Make sure you disable the Steam Cloud for New Vegas by right-clickin' to Properties, Updates, and de-check the Steam Cloud enabler box. If you had it running but disabled it, make sure you clear out the drive-side data by going to Steam\Userdata\(User Number)\22380 (or check which one's been updated the most recently)\saves.

Mods of Note
Desert Armor is a reskin or remodel or whatever the hell it is of the NCR Veteren Ranger armor on the cover. Dudes say it looks way better but I personally couldn't give a damn.
For something actually useful, your great and benevolent host whipped up an enhancement for ammo crafting for energy weapon aficianados. This changes the properties of a bunch of the energy ammo recipes, things like energy cells requiring charging from batteries instead of producing energy by smashing together, ammo conversion requiring that you have empty rounds of the type being converted to, the ability to craft the basic unpowered ammo containers, and a little doo-dad that lets you recharge ammo with no muss or fuss if you're sufficiently skilled enough to make it.
Anon the Felon also did a little dungeon/quest mod, so make sure you check it out, especially if you're lookin' for power armor training.

Not know there's a way to filter shit while trading/storing items? Yeah, we're idiots too.
Turns out there's filters when doing a transaction or accessing a container that work just like the filter buttons on the Pipboy. Click the arrows next to the name of the trader or the "ITEMS" in the upper-left corner of your section of the window, or use d-pad left and right for console players, and you can filter through weapons, armor, aid, misc, so on.

Left-handed and hate the 1-0 hotkey setup? Orpheus has you covered:

If you are left handed and would like the inventory hotkeys to be Numpad 1-8 instead of 1-8, I found what to change in the Falloutprefs.ini file. They are listed under controls.

Hotkey1=004FFFFF
Ammo Swap=0050FFFF
Hotkey3=0051FFFF
Hotkey4=004BFFFF
Hotkey5=004CFFFF
Hotkey6=004DFFFF
Hotkey7=0047FFFF
Hotkey8=0048FFFF

Don't forget to made it Read Only after you save it or it will get over-written.

I'm still at the beginning of the game so I can't confirm the the Ammo Swap part works correctly.

Also add this in so the mouse moves at a reasonable rate in menus:

fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0

    I don't get the complaints that NV is more empty and lifeless than 3, the legion and NCR patrols alone make the wasteland seem more populated with stuff actually happening. And the biggest settlement in 3 had about as many people and things to do as kvatch.

    I'm glad you said that. I like when the world feels like its moving around you. Same way I liked how any time a gang war could pop up in Gta: San Andreas at any time.

    I might be getting this tonight. The only reason I haven't gotten it yet was money. Of course I have to work off a debt from my father, but hell, New Vegas, how can I say no?

    Ha, just got an achievement for getting banned from gambling at all the casinos. Walked away around 70,000 caps richer than when I walked in

    You must share your secret. Thats a lot of caps.

    Here is the secret for ultra gambling

    1) get 7+ luck
    2) buy 200 caps worth of chips
    3) play blackjack
    4) hit on anything under 10, double up on 10 or 11.
    5) watch as every single time you double up on 10 you get at least a face card.

    I got kicked out of every casino exactly like that. It's occasionally touch and go, but the double up button might as well be 'draw me a king'

    Thanks for the tip, can't wait to try this.

    Seems to be around the 10,000 mark, but I got it up to nearly 20 in Ultra-Luxe

    EDIT: Seems pretty permanent, too

    Life-time winnings.

    Also someone last thread suggested getting close to the limit with black jack, then playing the slots. It worked for me, walked out of The Tops 40,000 caps heavier :)

    5K in the Wrangler, 10K in Gomorrah and Tops, 15K in Ultra-Luxe. Vikkie and Vance have casino data in the GECK but I didn't know you could actually gamble there, so I'll have to investigate.

    EDIT: Wait, 40K? How the hell did you pull that, the max you could feasably get is 16999 if you scored a single digit on a roulette table with a max bet.

    I feel stupid now for only having won 35,000 caps total out of all three casinos.

    This stupid feeling is lessened greatly by the fact that my floating robot treasure chest is holding at least twice that amount in guns for barter.

    GO GO JURY RIGGING

    Nothing like taking a gun that costs 50 caps and using it to fully repair a gun that sells for 4000 caps.

    You can also get a mod that raises the bet limit and max payouts from the casino's.

    Honestly, I felt that 10k in most of them was kind of crappy, you can make that much within an hour with 7/8 luck (grumble grumble).

    Is it just me, or is the lever-action shotgun waayyyyy more potent than the caravan shotgun? I figured just by the numbers that there wouldn't be too huge a disparity, but I'm just popping Fiend heads off and sending their bodies flying 20 feet with the lever gun. And it isn't even repaired very well!

    I was kind of shying away from my sturdy caravan shotgun for awhile (even though I did take Shotgun Surgeon), but now with a lever I'm blasting raiders like nothing.

    SO GOOD.

    I sold my Sturdy Caravan Shotgun the second I got a lever action. It just feels right when you shoot it.

    If the dudes who run that Vault hotel on the strip had any brains, they'd have a full-blown Gun Runners manufacturing operation going on with the fabrication resources of the vault churning out decent weapons and armor and shit, and then run a casino where the high-rollers are encouraged to spend their winnings on vault-produced gear. The house wins, the high-rollers win, and no need to toss dudes out for havin' too good a streak.

    In regards to Vikki and Vance casino:
    After getting the place set up with a sheriff, if you wait a few days and go back into the casino you will be confronted by a small gang of ruffians. Deal with them in any way you please. Leave the casino, wait another couple of days, and go back in. You should now be able to gamble.

    Oh, that ain't even half of it:
    And THEN you've got various faction safehouses that you can get access to if you do enough jobs or do the right quests for them. There's one for the Legion, one for the Brotherhood, one for the Rangers, one for the Followers, and another place I don't wanna' name for spoilers that you could PROBABLY consider player housing once you get access to it.

    So I had this fear of Deathclaws.

    I got dumb when I first started, wandered north and got ripped apart outside of Sloan very, very early on. Now I've kinda been killing time, exploring before the end game starts, and went back with my AM Rifle. So I'm sneaking around, and managed to have the Alpha Male almost on top of me before I saw him. Luckily I was still "Hidden". So I freak, pop a Psycho, and a Turbo and get off three super quick shots to his head and drop him before he even saw me.

    Holy hell, that is the best feeling in the world.

    Also, I wish you could tame a Young Deathclaw as a non-human companion.

    You and me, we're cheaters alike. I got that mod that allows a perk every level around level 11, I think. I mean, come on, there are like 700 perks! You want me to pick just 15? I'm not quite sure why they felt a need to do that, since so many of the perks are so specialized/situational.

    I've been seriously disappointed by the Lady Killer perk.

    I've seen almost no dialogue options, and I've been pretty anti-Caesar's Legion this run and ha ha no females for me to exploit my damage bonus.

    It's been kind of a waste of a perk. I probably should have just been fabulous instead, I hear Confirmed Bachelor has more dialogue options as well.
