I was just reading about the Elite premium subscription details. They're going to release MONTHLY DLC for Modern Warfare 3? What the? Is that going to be a map or two a month or maybe something else?

I'd bet they'll bust up the map packs into smaller chunks and drop them individually or a few at a time.

  • Options

Pretty much that. Elite users will get a map a month, non-elite users will be able to buy 4 maps every 3 months.

Has Activision ever done anything like a "thank you" to its community, such as releasing a free map?

There was Snow Crash, for CoD4 on PC. They put a Christmas tree in the broken helicopter on Crash. At least, that's what I've been told.

I love this response. Also everyone better start working on their quikscoopsoficecream for MW3, because that's gonna be the bread and butter of this game.

Yea they did Auburn Tiger, that's how we got ghost in BLOPS(yea i'm bitter).

Winter Crash. And it was awesome. It was night and there was snow, presents, and Christmas lights all over the place. I'm upset that map never made it to the console versions. It was my favorite map.

Looks like the MK14 is the MW3 semi-atuo. As long as it doesn't have MW1 version M14 levels of recoil that should be fine.

Also the FAD looks hilarious and therefore it will be my favorite weapon, much like the F2000 was in MW2.

I was having this discussion with Scat this morning, it's stuff like that where the game doesn't take itself too seriously which I enjoy.

It's why I've come to love the fact that money flies out of corpses in MW2 during a payback.

Not buying map packs is not only smart monetarily, but also if you want to do well.

Casual players won't buy the map packs, and most casual players are shitty. Therefore, if you never buy map packs, you will eventually only play against (mostly) shitty players.

I don't really think what differentiates a casual player from a more hardcore one is whether they pay for new maps.

I think it's more of an issue of if they're still playing the game after 10 months.

I'm not excited for MW3 and haven't really wanted to play a call of duty beyond the first one (it calls to me from my book shelf...all I need is a crack). But I want to say that I respect what I see and wish I saw a sci fi shooter with that dedication and multiplayer dep... wassat? Tribes? Uhh.... thanks for keeping the faith and strategy depth and not copping out.

I don't know. The series does not have a skill-based matchmaking system. People who are likely to spend time and money on the game are also likely to be above average players.

If I play with PA people who do not have the maps, I find that our opponents are generally of a lesser caliber than if I were to play by myself.

I was in that game and it was good times. Sometime I'm posting that entire game because I did pretty well. Shitty connections were owning us for a while until we jumped into TDM. Only lost the game we were all using pistols.

What bugs me about CoD is that there was a lot of potential there. MW came out and minds were blown. The series has failed to innovate since then. It is so clearly ran by out of touch businessmen that it makes me genuinely angry.

It's frankly insulting that they release what is, to me, the same game every November. But you know what? I really can't fault them, because people buy it in droves.

I'm very curious how long they can keep this up. They obviously have a very loyal fanbase, but what happens when enough customers say "enough is enough?"

When something better comes along, which could be this year depending on how well BF3 does. CoD and BF3 definitely have different play styles though and the speed of CoD and the ease of jumping into the game and the joy of kill streaks is very satisfying.

Yes! I missed this, and I am glad it is making a comeback in MW3.

    Re: CoD Fatigue
I don't see them being able to push out another iteration without something new and interesting to grab people's attention past this next one, reception already seems to be getting fairly lukewarm. The next game in the franchise may tell us whether it's going to continue to be a flagship title or go the way of Guitar Hero.

Sure you're not projecting a bit here? Activity and sales paints a very different picture. We'll see in November about the next, but it seems people by and large are pretty okay with Black Ops.

So I'm assuming MW3 is going to have a theatre mode seeing as Elite has had little things here and there about weekly contests and "best submissions"

Because shiiiit got a game of TDM in with 8 other people where we all ran riot shields and hid except for one guy who just posted up. Finally after about twenty seconds one guy from the other team came running in and saw the (single) shield guy and wasn't sure how to handle him when he started walking towards him...Then the other 8 people just came running at him out of no where and he turned around and ran.

Pretty good stuff when this one guy is cheesing it out of there and has 9 shield guys chasing him.

KMART is going to have at minimum a $20 off coupon on all of those, the catch is that its not on the first purchase so you'd pay $60 for the first game and then from there on out you'd have a $20 off coupon you can use to get each of them for $40 a pop...Not to mention come Black Friday you can get use that coupon and get even more off.

What bugs me about CoD is that there was a lot of potential there. MW came out and minds were blown. The series has failed to innovate since then. It is so clearly ran by out of touch businessmen that it makes me genuinely angry.

Instead of writing up another post, I'll just re-post what I said on another forum about MW3 and innovation:
You know, my opinion of MW3 goes back and forth, but right now, I think I'm pretty excited about it. The switch from "kill streaks" to "point streaks" is phenomenal, and I think it's really going to open up completely new playstyles, and absolutely help people who are actually trying to actually play the fucking objectives.

I'm also super-excited about the Support Strike Package, because it doesn't reset when you die. The Assault and Specialist Strike Packages do, so they're very much like what we've got going on right now, but Support is unique; the streaks are focused on helping the team win the match, rather than on scoring a mountain of kills, and they don't reset when you die. So if you have (the equivalent of like) 5, 8, 9 for your streaks, it doesn't matter if you died at 4, because all you have to do is jump in and score one more for your first streak.

This is important for objective players like me. Sometimes, we run up against stiff competition, and we're struggling to take B, or plant a bomb, or whatever. I might run in, score a kill or two, jump on the objective, die at 50%, then run back, kill one person, hop on the objective and take it, die, and then the enemy takes it right back, etc. So in times like that, it's very hard to even get like Spy Plane, Counter, Napalm out, because you're just dying constantly. You're making progress and scoring points, but you're dying so often that you can't even get low streaks out.

Support is for times like that. One of the 18-point Support Streaks is Juggernaut Recon armour. The wiki says:

"This strike chain airdrops enhanced Juggernaut armor equipped with a Riot Shield and the USP.45 handgun. Players wearing this armor will have enhanced damage resistance, and will also act as a mobile motion sensor, detecting enemies nearby."

Like, I'm going to get that out on pretty much every map. You know what I mean? Because it's only a matter of time and points. Once that shit hits the ground, my team's going to make a massive push toward B, or the bomb, or whatever, and we are totally gong to take it.

    That's fucking awesome.
