It's really easy to level up the starting guns, though. Just buy a shitload of recruit packs. Uncommon stuff is easy, as well, just takes a bit longer since veteran packs cost 4x as much.
I can't believe how high quality this comic is. The person doing them has to be a professional.
I am certain he is using the in-game engine to set up the images, then slaps on some layers to make it look drawn.
It just seems way too close to the original to be drawn manually.
There's no way this page or this one are from the in game engine alone. I dunno, maybe this guy uses the in game engine for reference/posing, but the quality here suggests to me that he draws most of it himself.
Edit: Maybe it's a mix of both. I don't think he just pulls assets from the game and fliters them, but maybe he does that to at least get his starting page. Still better than any of the official comics, though.
