Best Buy is Naughty

Surprise, Surprise.

edit: so what happens is that Joe Consumer goes to BB after seeing a price on the BB website. And the guy in the store pricechecks against the BB website from a store computer and the price is higher.

The company intranet hosts the in-store website.

The prices are different depending on where the client is connecting. :-)

    Seriously though.
The hiring exam for Best Buy must be a meeting where they sit down and make sure that you have more than 3 priors on your record.
    It's like they're hiring all the ex-cons that Fry's wouldn't take.

wait, so employees pay more for the shit than retail? I don't get it. Unless they are routing customers through the employee portal for purchases? what? Also best buy has always had shitty prices.

a customer at home logs on to the best buy website

that website tells them a price

    they go to the store

the prices are higher, so they go 'what the fuck, your website says cheaper'

the employee says, 'oh it does, does it. let's see'

and he goes to the (different) best buy site located on their intranet which has higher prices that the customer begrudgingly pays

No, they employees log into the price checking site they have and they give them the lower price, but because of this the site said theirs was the lowest, so the price check thing was rigged.

Then you just walk across the street to somewhere with internet access. Order the product online for in store pickup. Come back and get it for cheaper from the same sales guy.

It's a shitty thing for them to do, but you can get around it.

Easy to say now that we have the hindsight, but it's very possible those people just thought they had read it wrong and begrudgingly paid so they didn't look like assholes after making a scene.

I'd say the stupid flows from employees and customers in equal amounts, more so from customers on big shopping days and more from employees 10 mins. before closing.

I tend to avoid Bestbuy/Futureshop when possible as it is due to the useless people they employ there.

I worked for target one summer between semesters of college, their general policy was “we don’t care if they get something for cheaper then they should as long as we keep them moving.” Its kind of surprising Best Buy would go to such trouble to con people a few extra dollars. If people have to jump through hoops to get the price they saw earlier they’re just not going to shop there anymore.

The difference is all in what is being sold. It's ok for Target to do that because most items are, for the most part, inexpensive, so it would cost Target more in man-power and time to make the customer "jump through hoops" than to just let it go, whereas Target sells largely expensive items (some of them VERY expensive), and so it is worth it to make the customer pay a higher price through hoops.

It is still a pretty shitty thing to do, though.
