I just played Singed top against WW by accident, Warwick's sustain is really quite irritating. I guess you can't play passively against him. Also, Rammus is the best on TT.

    Hi, Summoners –

The ruling below is the result of our investigation into the facts surrounding a ghosting incident at the recent IPL Season 3 Qualifier Tournament for the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS). The tl;dr version is that we’ve disqualified the players involved from the remaining LCS Season 3 qualifying events in North America.

We’re disappointed in the decisions made by these players and believe that there are no excuses for breaking the rules in order to gain a competitive advantage over an opposing team.

Clean play and good sportsmanship are mission-critical for players seeking to compete in the LCS and for the entire LoL community.

    League of Legends Competition Ruling

    Region: North America
Players: Johnny “Unstoppable” Tran, Nicholas “Nubbypoohbear” Harlan, George “Zekent” Liu, and Robert “ROBERTxLEE” Lee
    Date of Ruling: 01.02.13
Subject: Unfair Play; Violations of Summoner’s Code

    Facts
On December 23, 2012, at the IPL Season 3 Qualifier Tournament (the “IPL Tournament”), Absolute Legends (“AL”) played Team Dynamic (“TD”) in the final match of the tournament.
The players for AL and TD played Game 1 of the Bo3 match with spectator functionality enabled.
During Game 1, AL player Cruz “Cruzerthebruzer” Ogden allegedly experienced a series of online game disconnections, which led to several lengthy game pauses.
During the pauses, a spectator in the game communicated via Skype with AL players Unstoppable, Nubbypoohbear, Zekent and ROBERTxLEE.
They requested information from the spectator about TD’s player positions and ward placements, among other things, and she provided such information to them.
AL ultimately lost the match to TD.
Since the incident, several of the players in question have publicly and privately confirmed that the actions of Unstoppable, Nubbypoohbear, Zekent and ROBERTxLEE were intentional and done for the purpose of gaining an unfair advantage over TD.
Zekent posted a statement online here.
Screenshots of the Skype chat can be seen here and here.

    Relevant Rules
The IPL Tournament rules (here) defer to Riot’s Season 3 Qualifier rules (here), which prohibit and establish the penalties for unfair play in Section 3.

In addition, The Summoner’s Code establishes the general standards of behavior for all League of Legends players.

    Analysis
The actions of Unstoppable, Nubbypoohbear, Zekent, ROBERTxLEE and their confederate are commonly known as “ghosting,” which is when a game spectator illegally provides information about an opponent’s positions and/or movements.

This type of intentional behavior is a quintessential form of unfair play and the players involved do not dispute the relevant facts. They are, however, publicly remorseful about their actions and do not defend their conduct.

Ghosting also violates the Summoner’s Code, which guides players to exercise good sportsmanship and uphold high standards of behavior.

    Ruling
On December 23, 2012, Unstoppable, Nubbypoohbear, Zekent, and ROBERTxLEE engaged in unfair play against TD by ghosting Game 1 of their match at the IPL Tournament. These actions also violated the letter and spirit of the Summoner’s Code.

    Penalties
Unstoppable, Nubbypoohbear, Zekent, and ROBERTxLEE are each disqualified from participating in the:

    1. LCS Season 3 North American Online Tournament, scheduled for January 4-6, 2013;
    2. LCS Season 3 North American Qualifier, scheduled for January 11-13, 2013.

These disqualifications shall be effective, regardless of the current or future team affiliations of any of the players.

Future violations may result in additional penalties.

    The key part is
During Game 1, AL player Cruz “Cruzerthebruzer” Ogden allegedly experienced a series of online game disconnections, which led to several lengthy game pauses. During the pauses, a spectator in the game communicated via Skype with AL players Unstoppable, Nubbypoohbear, Zekent and ROBERTxLEE.
They requested information from the spectator about TD’s player positions and ward placements, among other things, and she provided such information to them

Man, criminal masterminds these weren't.. I wonder if they didn't shit the bed, and make it so blatantly transparent/obvious, if this would've been resolved so fast and easily. This really reminds me of the kinds of guys you see that try to steal or cheat at a casino.

Well, it isn't as if they had planned for it to happen. There was a misconfigured game and a long pause that allowed this to happen on the fly. That they immediately corrected the misconfiguration after the first game speaks to the fact that they realized what they did was garbage. I'm still glad riot came down on them with suspensions.

    I would download a car.

Because of the amount of money involved, there are going to be some strong incentives to come up with less-detectable methods. signals from teh audience, wireless transmitters, who the hell knows, you throw that much money in front of me and i guarantee you that I can get plenty creative while dancing on the letter of the rulebook.

Yea, it just speaks of show trial, and I hope that riot has some sort of behavior analysis in place, as well as just suspicious reports from the general audience/players.. I just wish that instead of a show trial this had gotten someone with more malicious intent, and to see what sort of bans riot would impose. It;s just a matter of time before a big cheating scandal will pop up, especially if prizes keep going up. It's one of the primary concerns for any game with big stakes of any sort, and why I understand the need to monitor programs running, etc. especially for remote play tournaments or any sort of cash stakes online gaming.

Manly Taric is still support Taric. If you're healing for more, doing more AoE damage, you can stun/heal more often because of CDR, and the Red Solo Cup keeps filling you up so you can do all this constantly without going dry in a teamfight...
I'd take that over support item Taric anyday.

You know, Azubu Frost took Kayle/Corki bottom lane against Graves/Sona in the grand finals. They were doing pretty well until they ran out of wards and got four man'd under tower.

Yea, counting cards isn't cheating inherently, but it is in Nevada. They encourage you to do it in AC, I've heard they even have like teachers and shit that'll do it at certain casino's there.. It's easy to understand, hard to actually do/break even at, so I guess with 8 decks it just adds to their bottomline, and they just watch out for the BIG DEALS... Which is kinda what I think Riot does. I just wonder if they actually monitor their tournaments yet for behavioral specifications.. Just too many perfect knowledge spots, or at the very least, allow an opposing team to request for a review to be done..

Do you have to provide your teamspeak access to Riot at all? How much do they monitor the running programs on your PC when you play? Is it different in the online tournaments?

I have no idea how you can maintain credibility for a purely online tournament. even with monitoring software, there are enough tricks and cheats to get an advantage that won't be detected.

So, the best way to reduce direct game hacking is for live events, with all supplied hw/sw. It should also have a "tournament" mode where the games don't go through the reliable stack of technology that we deal with everyday. and yet, there will still be signal throwers in the audience, other means of communication and any other exploit you can think of.

Yeah, Sightstone before Philo saves you a bit of money in the long run because it takes like 5 minutes for the Philo to pay for the 2 wards you need to buy without a Sightstone.

Sight Stone: 700g - for 4 wards only 2 down at a time.

Sight stone requires you to place 9 (9.33 recurring but I am rounding down), before it pays for itself. That requires you to go back 3 times before you're able to make it worth its gold. Considering you let 2 of them go their max duration of 3 min means that before the sight stone pays for itself it takes 15 min to pay itself back.

That isn't all that relevant to the order you buy them in though. If you're going to buy both and don't have a compelling reason to want the health regen, it's objectively more gold efficient to buy the Sightstone first over buying Philo and wards.

You where talking about gold efficiency. you brought it up. I just pointed out that it didnt seem to add up. Sometimes I am wrong, sometimes other people are wrong. But arguing that its not relevant to the discussion when you brought it up seems silly. :P

? I feel like you misunderstood me. It's not relevant because how long it takes a Sightstone to pay for itself doesn't have much of an impact on the gold efficiency of rushing one item over the other.

Let me put what I was trying to say a different way. If you're keeping at least 2 wards up, then the Sightstone is effectively generating more gold per 5 than the Philo. Every 3 minutes, the Sightstone will save you 150g in ward costs while the Philo is only generating 90g. If you're going to buy both, it's better in terms of gold generated to buy the Sightstone first.

Its not bad if you're going to be in the middle, but its expensive and you won't really get there in time to make use of it.

If you're looking for a HP supporting item, look at the locket. 10 less armor and 25 less HP than the Sunfire Cape. But 10% CDR, 10 HP 5, a great active and its 500 gold cheaper.

You're not counting the health. Sightstone comes with 100 HP and 2 wards to place, which means you instantly get 413 gold worth of stats with 563 gold 3 minutes later (GP10 rate is 8.3). It costs 700 gold which means that it pays off after 6 wards, or about 6 minutes.

It upgrades easily to Ruby Sightstone after getting a Ruby Crystal, Ruby Sightstone costs 125 gold over the Cystal and sightstone, gives you another 4 GP/10 and 20 HP. (the only reason you would not upgrade to the ruby asap is if you couldn't use the 3 wards in lane).

Philo takes a lot longer to pay off, especially considering that it doesn't have any now stats which means that if you get Philo first and the other guy gets the more gold efficient sightstone first you can't fight them in lane.

Or I can build what ever the hell I want on my supports and continue to win games with my play style, because it seems to be working damn well. I see nothing wrong with disputing something in this thread, we all have a monstrous amount to learn and we don't learn it by agreeing with each other.

I see a much better case for Nocturne mid than I do for Kayle support.

Also, I think doing optimal builds is less important than people think it is. "That's a bad item" doesn't really apply, cause it's still doing something.

A potential 15% armour and MR reduction, near permanent 35% slow, a 30% move speed buff with a heal, and an invincible button every ~40 seconds isn't what I'd immediately call "gimmicky" as a support.

Then again I'm the sort of player who enjoys running Orianna and Gangplank as supports, so unconventional and suboptimal are my favourite words.

Disagreeing is fine and part of life and part of this game because everyone has different experiences and differences as to how they approach the game. HOWEVER, coming into a thread and telling someone 'no, don't ever' is the dumbest thing that can be said. Disagreeing and being completely closed to an idea are two VERY different things.

I am always happy to be proved wrong and likely in my head the sightstone rush seems like it would be good for aggressive supports. I look forward to trying it. However never and I have learned this and I have in the past committed the same act of closing myself completely to an idea, is just dumb and will get you nowhere fast.

    1. LCS Season 3 North American Online Tournament, scheduled for January 4-6, 2013;
    2. LCS Season 3 North American Qualifier, scheduled for January 11-13, 2013.

These disqualifications shall be effective, regardless of the current or future team affiliations of any of the players.

Future violations may result in additional penalties.

    The key part is

Man, criminal masterminds these weren't.. I wonder if they didn't shit the bed, and make it so blatantly transparent/obvious, if this would've been resolved so fast and easily. This really reminds me of the kinds of guys you see that try to steal or cheat at a casino.

Yeh, that's some bad cheating. Hell, with enough ingenuity you can still successfully make runs on casino's (what the hell was that movie about the MIT'ers running blackjack shenanigans?) Because of the amount of money involved, there are going to be some strong incentives to come up with less-detectable methods. signals from teh audience, wireless transmitters, who the hell knows, you throw that much money in front of me and i guarantee you that I can get plenty creative while dancing on the letter of the rulebook.

Is it different in the online tournaments?

i didnt think that card counting was illegal in either state, but that casino's had the right to refuse your wager, and will if the suspect you can actually count.

The thing with card counting (to go horribly off topic) is that beyond a certain number of decks, you need to use a very noticeable tick to keep track of the cards. i'm pretty damn spot on through 2 decks, but fall apart as soon as a third is added. If you use the motor ticks, like checking your watch constantly, or several well known others, the pit bosses will notice and toss you. This is why there is an elaborate setup in the MIT movies, the player can only know whether to hit or stand and can't make any unobvious movement during play.

Of course, card counting relies on taking advantage of the statistical anomalies that occur at the end of a played deck. If you know that there are a ton of 10's left compared to non-10's, you sit on your 12 and watch the dealer draw on their 16. Every casino that I know of throws out the last 2 decks of an 8 deck shoe, reducing the success of counting schemes further.

I have some family in the slot-machine business, and the exploits that they have to account for are insane. What's funnier is that there was (a while ago) a bug in one of their systems that through a series of dollar insertions/cancels/button presses, it would jackpot. Why? Shared Memory, and the graphics and sounds and control systems people never actually talked about where they were writing what.

To get back to e-sports, credibility presents a huge problem, particularly with people using home-based computers. Of course, there are sports where corruption is widely accepted/acknowledged and they're still popular. See NFL, EPL, FIFA, Boxing, NBA, etc (please don't include baseball because its completely obvious to everyone when a game is thrown).

Just lol if you think you need to buy GP5 to support.

My wife and I are 4 and 0 for J4 Leona bot; the meta isn't real guys it's all an illusion.

These games mostly occurred with a Pantheon mid lane and bruiser top and jungle.

Get camped by their jungle? Play defensively while ours counter jungles the crap out of them.

Mid comes too, to turn it into a 4v2? LoL while mid towers start dropping.

Top wants to turn it into an Aram in the bot lane? There goes their top turrets too.

They leave you alone to protect their shit? Dead ADC and support all game.

Try and hold off until the end game, because we don't have an ADC? Try to focus us when you have five tanky bruisers in your face, or for that matter try to choose between Pantheon, Leona, Jarvan, Darius, and Cho Gath who to focus first when they're all half damage half defense.

I'm sure better skilled players might be able to out play us but it's pretty irrelevant, because they would out play us even if we followed the meta.

I'm convinced we're going to see huge shifts in the metagame as S3 continues, and once big tournaments start happening.

Don't know if I agree with that. Maxing out Kayle's CDR - which you can do very easily with support items - gives her a ton of utility.

I've found that Kayle doesn't scale particularly well with CDR.

Her ult's CD is already pretty low, and even 40% on there, you're not using it twice a fight. Her QWE all really love the CDR, but Kayle has shit for base mana and mp/5; the problem, really, is when you end up itemizing for both CDR and mana. I feel that straight ADC Kayle or Aura Tank Kalye tends to work better.

Nashor's/Grail/Malady/Deathcap Kayle is pretty fun, though.

and then people say there are better that do the same job, yeh, there are, but when I get the spider sense that my team is going to need someone to run as a second adc, i'll break her out and run her bottom. thing is, we're all so bad that optimal and suboptimal don't really matter that much to us, and we should be playing for fun.

The one thing that pisses me off though is picking say Kayle early, like for the jungle, clearly stating my intentions in chat and with that gigantic Smite icon, and someone decides that Kayle is only a support because Riot's website says so, so off to bottom lane I go instead of running double jungle because some silly goose can't be bothered to read past the champ descriptions.

(oh, btw - who was having trouble with Jungle Kayle? She seems no different than before)

Kayle support is gimmicky and falls off hard without items. I understand the premise with the slow, the +ms heal and the invulnerability, but she just feels so meh. Other supports do the job better, safer.

Don't know if I agree with that. Maxing out Kayle's CDR - which you can do very easily with support items - gives her a ton of utility. A potential 15% armour and MR reduction, near permanent 35% slow, a 30% move speed buff with a heal, and an invincible button every ~40 seconds isn't what I'd immediately call "gimmicky" as a support.

J4/leona and similar kill lanes are incredibly easy to deny though. I am unabashedly horrible, and you just focus on brush control/not dying and you are fine. Once you hit level 9 or so the threat goes down immensely unless you have fed them badly. This does mean you have to pick correctly though and some ADCs have it worse than others.

But 5 bruiser is super gimmicky, and I don't see it working reliably. It only works because people aren't used to it.

I hate buying wards all the time, feels like I'm wasting gold, so I have been playing pretty much every game as support with Flask first, Sightstone first back. I hardly ever buy GP10 anymore.

Once you get off the GP/10s you'll move on to kill supports. Then you'll rush Frozen Fist/Sunfire Cape and graduate the big leagues of TOTAL CARRY SUPPORT!

TCS combines the cold fisting power of FF with the hot burning sensation of SF to create an Icy Hot combo that is sure to melt your opponents, and freeze their ashes.

I've been running Leona out of the Jungle and rushing a FF on her.

Because she needs more slows and AOE. I guess that a sunfire would make it even funnier. Have to try that!

Tanky Hybrid is actually my favorite these days for Kayle, Rageblade was awesome on her, now only more awesome. Black Cleaver, Yes Please. Frozen Fist, what the hell, I got a slow and AOE to splash that shit around with. Nashor's and an SV. You aren't killing her, she's shredding everything and healing the entire time.

thing is, anyone with a ranged attack in S2 was scary as fuck with a full AD build. Zilean with 600 range potatoes, with BT, IE, LW, PD? Yeh, he kills people too,

I think striving for optimal is great, and the exercise of figuring out what is optimal will do wonders for your game-sense, but when actually playing the game, optimal vs not-optimal at our levels isn't something that amounts to much, in my opinion.

Abyssal would be a good MR item on her, as all of her (shitty) ratios are AP. My biggest gripe with Abyssal is that since the range nerf on its aura, the mpen doesnt apply to any long-range shots. Like, if Galio has it, I don't think it reaches the outer edge of his Ult.

Frozen Fist on Kayle kind of sounds like frozen fist on Singed.
    Ehhh???
you don't have the cooldowns to use it effectively
I built it on singed 4-5 games and just going frozen heart and a rylais sounds better
like you get to use the frozen fist active on singed basically once

not if you're actually trying to do DAMAGE with Leona.... then the Abyssal is a better item, but seriously, someone on your team needs to build a bulwark.

of course, doing damage with a jungle leona may be greater if she just lives longer with the Bulwark, so, meh, could go either way, I'll have to try them out.

I agree. The thing that makes it difficult is that Glacial Shroud is soooo good for Singed, so you get it. Then someone else builds Frozen Heart because I'm a baddie and forgot to say I was going to build FH, THEN what do you do with it?

That's the problem I have most of the time.

Dunno how you play Kayle, but most of my engages start off with either a Q or W, and then straight into E/auto bashing. Q will be back up to proc it again soon enough, and if you didnt spam Q+W at teh same time, you should be able to proc it every 3s.

That being said, you get most of what you want from FF with just her Q, but since FF is basically broken OP, it's too much fun to build it on anyone remotely viable. I do want to try a Liandry's on her, just for the fun of Q+E beatdowns with constant resets.

Cruzerthebruzer said he stopped playing competitive LOL. That's a shame, he was one of my favorite top laners

    Any particular reason?

His whole team got banned from S3 competition, which starts basically now, and it'd be too much hassle to get together with a new team?

Also, I must not understand the qualifying format. I only saw two events they were banned from. Are those the only qualifying events that you can participate in, and once they are over there is no longer a chance to qualify?

So I think you can play in S3 if you join a team that qualified for it OR if you were on a team that qualified for it, but later disbanded.

With regard to Cruzer, I was watching Wingsofdeath stream and he was talking to Cruzer about it. Basically Cruzer is unable to find a team that will keep him for more than 2 months before firing him and trying someone else. I feel bad for the guy, but I'm glad he's considering it rationally and making a decision rather than sitting in some weird limbo like GuardsmanBob (who I LOVE)

All supports should be building Sunfire Cape to be part of team Sunfire Bros.

In addition if you have it in lane it may nick CS from your carry.

I see you are not part of team sunfire bros. TCS never buys locket. NEVER! I'd build IE before locket. MORE MELEE CRITS!

IE for TCS?!? No way, in order to support you must supportively shred all their armor with a BC!

he's right, the meta has shifted so damn much that this isn't close to the game we were playng in S2. The Euro lane may well be on its way out.

Whatever proof do you have of the eurolane being on it's way out at a pro level. With eurolane for me meaning AD carry+someone who lets them get most of the farm.

There is no rational reason not to have an ad carry. If the game goes over 40 min they will destroy people with good farm, assuming their team backs them up.
