WELCOME TO THE KNIGHTS OF ARCADIA PHALLA:
UNDERLUND AFLAME!
What kind of Phalla is this? Power Rangers? Pop Cultural Reference? Poorly Done Fanfiction? Confusion Bulljitsu?
IMPORTANT: THERE IS INFORMATION YOU NEED TO READ AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST!
I run my games in my own universes. My games are based around the central concept of an Uniformed Majority having to defeat an Informed Minority. Information control watching its use is my favorite part of Phalla games. This is in the universe of
Knights of Arcadia taking place after the Acquaintance defeated the Arcadians. He now sets his sights on Underlund
No, I will not be offering clarifications as to mechanics. Yes, trying to creatively break the game will go poorly. I will explain SOME mechanics, but I will choose which to explain myself.
You can see examples of all of this in my first phalla. Day One is found here:
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/142161/knights-of-arcadia-phalla-night-8-oh-osa-where-art-thou/p1
Sign ups of the old game (which include all the original descriptions for each role) are found here:
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/142061/redirect/p1
Yes, I fundamentally do not believe in the villager PM. This phalla will start at a specified time and you will receive a PM only if you are a special. Since creating unique roles with descriptions takes an extremely long time, I have created over half the roles myself to give you examples to work with as well as descriptions of the guilds. Anything that says OPEN ROLE you are free to fill in as you want. If it has something beside the OPEN ROLE, then that's what job that particular person performs. If nothing is there, then make up your own within the confines of the universe/guild! THESE ROLES ARE ENTIRELY FLAVOR FOR OPTIONAL ROLEPLAY AND FOR FLUFF IN THE NARRATION. FLUFF IN THE NARRATION IS ALSO JUST THAT: ME MAKING THE GAME MORE INTERESTING FOR YOU. DON'T TRY TO INFER THINGS BY WHO PARTICIPATES IN WHAT ACTION OF THE NARRATION OR WHAT THEIR JOB/ROLE IS.
SO HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Do so by posing in this thread, by posting with an exclamation point, sign up, and the number/name of the slot you want. All of this bold and limed. For example:
!SIGN UP 24 CAYLA OLSON. Sign ups are entirely first come first serve.
IMPORTANT! There is going to be a public
super role in this phalla. Namely, the Acquaintance. And unlike the other roles, this one will
not be chosen randomly. Instead, send me a PM or make a post telling me why you should have the role. Feel free to throw your support to other people if you think they will do a good job!
The Acquaintance is going to be his own faction this game, not associated with the mafia, and he should be theatrical, fun, and engaging. The previous game
is found here if you want to see how
The Acquaintance talked!
Sign Ups will last all weekend. AS OF RIGHT NOW:
Sundaythe game will start NO EARLIER THAN
Monday6 PM, Central time. The first day will end NO EARLIER THAN
Tuesday, 10 PM, Central.
THERE WILL BE NO VILLAGER PM, CHECK THE OP IN CASE THE START TIME IS LATER DUE TO UNFILLED SIGNUPS
Standard rules will apply: don't add new people to PMs, I must be added to every game PMs, if you start a proboard you must include me, etc.

Cartagra – Life continues after death in Underlund, primarily thanks to the works of the Cartagra. Its members swear ultimate fealty to the Blood Council, binding their essence in a contract called the Life Stone. Not a mere piece of rubble, it refers to the ‘reward’ Cartagrans receive upon death, eternal life that never changes. It is no surprise that ‘Cartagran Paradise’ has become synonymous with hell in the slums.
Regardless, many are still drawn by the Cartagran Eternal Library, a reservoir of knowledge that draws on all past souls bound by Life Stone. Not everyone reads the fine print on what a library card requires.
1. Fornevus Baroth – Not all knowledge can be learned from books, thus philosophers hold particularly high places in Cartagran society. Forenevus teaches rhetoric among the guild, perfecting their arguments in order to expand membership to critical density.
2. Noah Cham – Was tricked into bondage and seeks to escape an eternity of Life Stone. Young and still naïve, he spends many nights in the Eternal Library asking the unanswerable question to the reservoirs. He feels particularly empathy for the indentured members of the Cartagra.
3. Yalor McCabre – Sadistic and cruel, Yalor is responsible for more indentured memberships than any person in Underlund, past or present. He offers the men and women of the slums a way to escape their lifes of toil. For a modest fee, all they have to do is sign their names to Life Stone.
4. Shino Sly – Shino is a Cartagran enforcer of the Blood Council. Ruthless and dispassionate, Shino ensures that Cartagran will is felt throughout Underlund. If there is a guild dispute, Shino is often selected to ‘negotiate’ a piece-full resolution.
5. Raphael Trujo – A cruel, aristocratic member of the Blood Council, Raphael lives a life of extravagance and wealth. A hundred servants and slaves live at his beck and call each day, and thousands more die at his whim each year.
6. Azeri Funduh – One of many librarians of the Cartagra. Don’t let the title fool you, the Eternal Library needs few custodians. Instead, it requires guardians to protect the knowledge from the unbound masses, enforcers to collect debts, and an elite few to ensure that Life Stone contracts are honored. Quiet and reserved, few assume that Azeri is in the business of binding souls.
7. Keloth Nazaire – Like Noah, Keloth is a member of the Cartagran that hates her position. Keloth wasn’t fooled into a Life Stone Contract, she entered the Eternal Library to find a cure for his ailing father. She is on the cusp of finding a cure, and now she worries about her own eternal fate.
8. Burter Brea – A Blood Council member who seeks nonviolent solutions to the many guild feuds. Not because he is a pacifist, but he believes that Cartagran business interests thrive when peaceful solutions are met. A strict utilitarian objectivist, he despises emotional attachments, but recognizes the necessity of feigning empathy for his public face.
9. Sid Gilden – Like all guardians of the Eternal Library, Cid has not entered into the Life Stone contract. As such, he is never tempted to gorge on the knowledge that he guards. The 17th in a long bloodline of guardians, Sid is fiercely loyal to the Cartagra and its interests. He holds the Guardian Oath of Priorities as his motto: Cartagra, Library, Underlund, Self.
10. Gustav Rehnquist – OPEN ROLE
11. Joyce Chambers – OPEN ROLE
12. Churl Bast – OPEN ROLE
13. Jack Winters – OPEN ROLE
Shibbolyth – Underlund is home to many outsiders, refugees, underclass, and slaves who belong to no true guild and are instead classified as the ‘Shibbolyth’. There is no requirement, no creed to being a Shibbolyth. If you find yourself in the streets of Underlund cold and alone, you might find a home as one of the Shibbolyth.
14. Munkus Mountainbeard – A Dwarf slave with a crimson red beard who was bought by an Omertan brewer to teach the secrets of Arcadian brew to the so-called Underlund ‘Brewmasters.’ Joined the Arcadian military after his brewery was destroyed on the Underlund border, subsequently captured after his unit suffered heavy losses. Longs for the day when he can break his shackles and return home to his wife. Hates Underlund and all its citizens, and makes no secret off this.
15. Vanya Silmarion – An elf merchant that was banished from his homeland long ago. Hates the Omerta for their constant interference with his business, but otherwise enjoys his time in Underlund. Wears his black hair in long braids, is missing one of his ear-tips after an argument with an Omertan Rouser.
16. PLACEHOLDER
17. James Raddison – A former Underlund knight, was once a well respected swordsman until the treasure he was guarding was stolen while he was seduced by an auburn-haired accomplice. Now a beggar, his possessions are the robes on his back and the silver sword he once used to fight enemies of the country.
18. Quinn Glover – A traveling salesman, has avoided the reach of the Omerta somehow. Sells suspect knives and nick-knacks to unsuspecting visitors to the bazaar. Often sells ‘one of a kind’ specimens three times a day. Only in Underlund another week before he continues his travels.
19. John Rust – Once a low ranking politician that dared challenge the Omerta, John Rust now tends to his considerable beard and desperately tries to keep his tenuous grasp on sanity. His brilliant mind is now clouded by a blood-hex, the price of fighting the Doroga family. Sometimes believes he is in Arcadia, surrounded by a loving family.
20. Hester Fields – One of few survivors of the demon raid in Camillia, came to warn the city about the chaos at the Underlund borders only to be silenced by unknown magic. Unable to speak of the horrors she has seen, she has tried to escape into denial while working as a barmaid.
21. Jacob Phillips – OPEN ROLE a thief
22. Johnson Barlet – OPEN ROLE a beggar
23. Rebecca Morning – OPEN ROLE a merchant
24. Cayla Olson – OPEN ROLE a traveler
25. Donovan Moore – OPEN ROLE a thug
26. Javier Hardy – OPEN ROLE an entertainer
27. Safir Thumb – OPEN ROLE a mage
28. Collin McCoy - OPEN ROLE
Omerta – The public face of the Omertan guild is a merchant guild that enforces the laws which ensure Underlund economic expansion and growth. In reality, the Omerta is a fierce criminal organization that rules the mercantile class through fear and intimidation. Run by the ‘elected’ executives of the thirteen Omertan families, the Omertan philosophy has always been diversity: diverse investments, diverse industry, and - of course - a diverse criminal empire.
29. Richard Cobalt – Fond of his expensive hats which hide his growing baldspot, Richard represents the ideal Omertan executive. Richard owns the largest brewery in Underlund, two banks, and a successful whorehouse. Richard is also head of the Cobalt family, which specializes in drugs, extortion, and a successful whorehouse. Richard is happy to twirl his thin moustache with his fat little fingers while drinking dwarvish brandy. If Richard could conduct his vast operations from the comfort of his bed he would, but often he must go to his study to sign documents and order the death of someone unimportant. Thankfully, Richard can afford a runic belt that halves his weight, otherwise living in a two story mansion would be impossible.
30. David Hess – At night, Hess uses his slender frame to break into the homes of the rival guilds’ wealthy. During the day, he is an unassuming member of the Omertan Rousers. While most Rousers use their immense size to intimidate ‘fee’ payments, Hess uses the subtle language of implication. Somehow, he learns about his ‘clients’ extended family, their most priceless treasure, and their most guarded secrets. And if they refuse to pay, David is more than happy to come back when they are sleeping and find something, or someone, worth taking.
31. Kodassa Moore – Before joining the Omerta, Kodassa was a small-time conman. He would play a small con here, a long con there, enough to get by and live comfortably. Eventually, his talents landed him in deep trouble with one of the Omerta families. Instead of breaking his arms, however, they offered him a job as a port salesman. Kodassa now uses his charm to negotiate the best deals, and sneak important cargo in and out of Underlund.
32. Brandon Okto – An Omertan Rouser, he has beaten his fair share of Shibbolyths. However, the numerous scars bely a quiet intelligence. Brandon secretly plans on using his earnings to join the Cartagra as an upper level official to live his dream of zoological research. Until that day, the beatings will continue.
33. Christopher Kendrick – The disgruntled chief-blacksmith under the Omertan flag, Christopher resents Tibalt Esker and the outstanding work his four arms can accomplish. Christopher has made numerous pleas to the Omertan council to teach Tibalt a lesson about noncompliance to no avail. The lack of results has caused considerable stress on Christopher’s position as chief-blacksmith, leading the fiery Kendrick to become estranged from his wife. Now disenchanted with his power within the guild, Christopher takes his frustration out on his naïve apprentices.
34. Craig Daniels – A mid-rank Omertan manager, helps run the dock interests for multiple families. A calm, rational man, Craig is often the last person to call the Rousers to solve his problems. Craig's father had always wished he would have been a Rouser leader or an assistant to an Omertan executive. While gifted with handling numbers and figures, Craig could never figure how to make his father proud.
35. Gideon Faulkner – A one eyed cipher, Gideon handles the Doroga family messages to the Omertan council. Gideon invents a new code each month to ensure that the Doroga family messages are never read by prying eyes. The one eye serves as a reminder to all ciphers that sober lips spill no secrets.
36. Nostra Doroga – The slender leader of the Doroga family strives to make Doroga the most prominent Omertan family, often at the expense of Omertan interests. Nostra finds the Cobalt family easiest to sabotage, their executive has an insatiable taste for sweets and men obvious from the servants that clean his many folds. Nostra keeps his jet-black hair groomed to prominently display his widow’s peak. Every aspect of Nostra Doroga is intentional, every move a calculation. He will lead Omerta, and everything is expendable.
37. Austin Cobalt – The lowest ranking member of the Cobalt family, Austin has no aspirations for higher power. She is content with robbing merchant stalls and performing petty vandalism for whoever is willing to pay. She keeps her Auburn hair short and carries two perfumes. One is magical and hides her scent and sound, the other is a magical aphrodisiac for seduction and distraction.
38. Oliver Madsen – OPEN ROLE a thug
39. Charles Mirth – OPEN ROLE
40. Alexander Cobalt – OPEN ROLE
41. Holly Underwood – OPEN ROLE
42. Jack Hodges - OPEN ROLE
Asphodel – Underlund politics are ruled by the Asphodel, the aristocratic guild that traces its origins back to the beginning of Underlund. The Asphodel is composed of both the ruling elite and the knights who protect Underlund from invading forces. Members of the Asphodel often believe that it is their divine right to rule, that their decisions are infallible and unquestionable. It is not uncommon for an Asphodel member to view nonmembers as subhuman.
43. Tristan Drake – 13th Drakeson in the line of Knight-commanders of Underlund. Wields the holy sword Deihylde in service to protect the realm. Questions the recent actions of the ruling elite, extremely distrustful of the Omerta. Gained notoriety fighting Andrealphus to a standstill some months ago.
44. Sonorant Drystar – Nicknamed “The First Star” by his troops, Sonorant is always on the frontline of any battle. Unmatched in Underlund when wielding a battlemace, his enormous stature and strength often causes him to break his weapon in the middle of combat. Defeated Pruflas after an Cartagran researcher accidently summoned it, making Sonorant one of the only knights on record as defeating a demon in combat. While brave, Sonorant is often described as ‘over-eager,’ with a skill in turning otherwise peaceful disputes into all-out brawls.
45. Steig Omerson – OPEN CHARACTER a knight
46. Balin Bors – OPEN CHARACTER a knight
47. Brangaine Bruin – OPEN CHARACTER a knight
48. Galahad Courtois – OPEN CHARACTER a knight
49. Hector Lionel – OPEN CHARACTER a knight
50. Morgan Uswain – OPEN CHARACTER a knight
RESERVES: William Silverman – OPEN CHARACTER a knight
Now open as a reserve or a replacement for an OPEN character:
Tibalt Esker – (Shivan are otherwise human, but have four arms. There are small tribes in southern Arcadia, Northern Underlund, and in the Island Nations). A Shivan blacksmith, known for his superior work as a swordsmith. The Omerta tolerate his operation because his goods are vastly superior to anything their smiths have been able to make, and because Shivans are notoriously resistant to torture and bribery. Like many Shivans, Tibalt is prideful and boastful. He does not trust the Cartagran and has refused to do business with their members, even their slaves.
Witching Hour
Like previous games I have run, this game will make use of the 'Witching Hour.' Special Actions are due one hour before voting closes. This is to give me time to write the narrations and fluff.
How does the Acquaintance win?
The Acquaintance will use his knowledge of the players of the game and select a certain number of people to have his 'shards' embedded within them. The Acquaintance wins when the only players left have shards. The Acquaintance immediately leaves the game when all shards are found/removed. Shards are removed upon death and by village or mafia special powers.
Can we vote out the Acquaintance?
No. The Acquaintance is immune to everything. You can't beat someone like the Acquaintance through brute force, it requires subtle negotiation. You defeat the Acquaintance ONLY by removing the shards from play. Likewise, I would advice you to not use the Acquaintance's true name (as revealed in the previous game). If you do so, he may...punish you.
So, who IS the mafia if not the Acquaintance?
OSA and his minions are invading the capital of Underlund. Most of the Underlund countryside is burning, hence the title. Due to the machinations of the greedy ruling caste, The Game has been invoked in earnest.
Do the mafia have unique powers?
The mafia have bonus powers.
Do the village have specials?
Yes. I won't tell you what specials are present, though.
How strict are you regarding inactivity?
Very strict. Since discussion is the key to this game, you will be required to discuss! A vote and two posts a day are the bare minimum. This number may increase during later days. Inactivus Hungers...
How are roles determined?
I wrote the characters first then immediately did an RNG to determine demons and specials. Everything in the description of the demon/special is fluff, I will outright tell you their role-power when they die.
How does voting work?
You vote, bold it, and red it. And don't edit vote posts. !Murderbot
