Not really. Its more image then anything real. I got in with the Heroic age two years back. It was easy. Most comics explain anything you need to know at the beginning.

God comics are so fucking simple I don't know how you people who don't read them manage to make it sound so confusing.

Seriously? DC's completely overhauled their entire continuity like twice in the past decade. I mostly stopped reading comics because I didn't have the time, but I'd dropped DC before because I got tired enough of that stuff.

The boring answer is Yotsuba which everyone knows about. It's about a cute kids, and cute kids are my favorite kind of manga.

One not as many people would know about is a shoujo manga called Gakuen Babysitters about a high school boy and his toddler brother who were orphaned and have to work in the high school daycare to earn their keep. It's fantastic. It also has a tsundere girl, but the comic is mostly about guys. I think most of my favorite manga is written by women, and I love that about the medium.

Crisis on Infinite Earths-A graphic novel meant to fix DC's continuity in the 80's

Identity Crisis-A really shitting story about rape and mind control with a side of minor retcon.

    Flashpoint- The DC reboot.

That's not quite the same as DC literally just leveled the playing field so everyone's starting from near scratch

What I'm getting at is that Comic Books are easy to get into

Go buy every issue of Hickman's Avengers and you'll love it!

But COMICS are hard to get into. If you want to learn more about what's up with Tony and Cap in that book, you're gonna probably want to check out New Avengers, and then you'll need to learn more about black Panther, and then hey what's up with Doctor Doom I guess I need to buy a bunch of FF books now well shit this is a DANGEROUS sinkhole

Though I can totally understand people being confused if they jumped into events. Because those are just a mess of stuff most of the time.

It was reality changing and affected everything.

The equivalent of Ultimatum for the entire DC franchise, instead of 3 books.

So in the past 30 years, DC has done 3 events to 'reset' things to make it easier for new readers.

    Crisis on Infinite Earths.
    Infinity Crisis.
    And Flashpoint.

Okay stand back now 'cause I'm gonna explain DC Comics continuity!

There have now been three eras of main DC continuity:

PRE-CRISIS: 1939-1985. Began with the introduction of Superman in 1938. Ended with the story Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985, which rebooted the continuity to make everything less confusing.

POST-CRISIS: 1985-2011. Began after Crisis on Infinite Earths, ended with Flashpoint, which again rebooted the continuity, this time just because they felt like it.

NEW 52: 2011-Present. Began after Flashpoint.

the thing about getting into comics is that in my experience people overthink it

like they'll read a story and a totally new character shows up and they're like "WHO'S THAT GUY, SHOULD I KNOW HIM?"
