My list would probably look a bit different if I actually played more of the games I picked up... oops

    ranks/reasons:
    1. Bioshock Infinite
    2. Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
    3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
    4. Tomb Raider
    5. The Last of Us
    6. Ni No Kuni
    7. Fire Emblem: Awakening
    8. Pokemon X
    9. Lego Marvel Super Heroes
    10. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
    11. Picross e
    12. Monaco: What's Yours is Mine

1, 2, and 4 I actually completed and had a lot of fun with. I didn't get very far in Zelda but I'm not in any rush and it's very enjoyable.

5 through 8 all need more of my attention. Really cool games, but I haven't played them enough to really vote them any higher.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes is my first Lego video game... while it's amusing and entertaining, dead ends and glitches often create just as much frustration.

Likewise, Animal Crossing: New Leaf is my first Animal Crossing. It will be much easier to get into once I'm not playing several games at once.

Not much to say about the last 2. I regret that I still have Brothers, Gone Home, and Gunpoint to start/finish.

10 games, most 3DS, some PC, and Pandora's Tower, with an extremely high degree of certainty the last console-only game I'll ever vote for. If the rules allowed it, Bravely Default could have been a challenger, but since they don't, the gold goes to Link Between Worlds.

In my PC: Ryzom, Diablo III, Naruto Shippuden UNSR, The Old Republic
In my 3DS: Super Smash Bros, AC New Leaf
    Last game completed: Steamworld Dig

Going through the list made me realize the majority of games I played and enjoyed enough to vote for this year were either out last year, are pre-release this year, or addons.

this is how mine came out, in order 1-8
    The Wonderful 101 (WiiU)

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (3DS*)
    Pokémon X and Y (3DS)
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (3DS)

This is what I got for stuff that was released last year.

    1. Dragon's Crown (PS3*, Vita*)
    2. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)
    3. Pokémon X and Y (3DS)
    4. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS)
    5. Warframe (PC, PS4*)
    6. Candy Box (PC)
    7. Salty Bet (PC)
    8. Bubsy 3d: Bubsy Visits the James Turrell Retrospective (PC)
    9. BattleBlock Theater (360*)

My real number one won't ever be released in the west because Sega are a bunch of stupid fucks. (It's PSO2 in case you are wondering)

I love that so many people have games I've never heard of on their top 10. It seems like only few years ago everyone's was pretty much the same games in slightly differing orders.

I didn't see Salty Bet on the list

I didn't even think about that as a qualifying game

Going through the voting list, I realized that I haven't played a ton of new games this year. In fact, Most of the games I played were mobile games like Cut the Rope 2 and Knights of Pen and Paper.

I didn't copy my list but I did put Saints Row IV in the top slot. I think my husband and I laughed more during that game than, like, ever before at anything. It was followed by Monster Hunter and Animal Crossing, and then the numbers started to get hard to compute.

I wish sim city had been able to be #1. That debacle will be what I remember most in gaming from 2013. I'm weird though and still ranked it pretty high when I was just thinking about the games I've played.

Even if the SimCity launch hadn't been a debacle it wouldn't have made my list. Technical issues aside, it was just a shitty fucking SimCity game. It took everything that was good about SimCity games, tossed it away, and replaced it with something more like The Sims: Slightly Bigger Edition

I actually enjoyed SimCity 5 for what it was, but it doesn't even belong in the same breath as any sort of top 10. I got a good 60-70 hours of fun out of it, and for that it was worth the money...but it wouldn't even make it in to my top 20.

e: I should say it doesn't belong in the same breath as MY top 10. davidsdurions is welcome to place any game any place he wants on his top 10.

Yeah, I'm totally on board bashing simcity, see the thread for more info, I just did my ratings based on how much enjoyment I actually got from each game. Like crysis might have been a very well made game, but I just didn't enjoy it pretty much at all.

If I had more time to enjoy some of the other smaller games out there I may have rated things vastly different.

    Cheers!

Voting made me realize how many acclaimed games I missed (The Last of Us being the most egregious). So, my top three ended up Gone Home, Tomb Raider, and Bioshock Infinite. Mario 3D World and FF XIV battled it out with Bioshock for third. I forgot where Zelda ALBTW ended up but it was in there.

Well, here I go... I really struggled with #1, but I ultimately I had to go with the amount of time spent on Fire Emblem. Great game. I have to say I enjoyed Tomb Raider far more than I could have possibly imagined since I have pretty much ignored the series after TR3. They did a fantastic job rebooting the series. GTAV still feels like more of the same, but the multi-character mechanic was kinda neat and the game overall is an amazing technical achievement. Oh, and Trevor.

I guess the only thing that really stands out is that The Last of Us didn't even make the list as I have yet to play the game. :\
