As a long-time follower of the A-League (and the NRL, the Aussie rugby league competition) I can appreciate the drama of having play-offs and a final - you kind of end up thinking of the regular season as one big qualifying tournament - but I still prefer the good old race-to-the-top of the traditional leagues. It seems more pure somehow, and it's what I grew up on. And the idea that a side could win the regular season by 15 points and still lose the championship is pretty damn goofy.
I love the US Open Cup and I am still hurting over the Union's lose to Seattle in the final.
Also Philly's loss on Saturday to DCU has pretty much knocked us out of playoff contention.
All that said, I have to look on the bright side — at least I'm not a Chivas USA fan.
edit: I just want to add that when my friends went out to California to go see the Union play Chivas USA a few years ago, the Black Army supporters group out there were perfect tailgate hosts. In all honesty I'm really feeling for the fans out there.

A-League's a bit special, though, what with more than half the league entering championship rounds at the end of the league. I tend to treat it as a seperate thing in my head. And I definitely care more about final position on the table than how far we make it in that ridiculously contrived playoff series.

Chivas has been rotating through former All Whites on the downward slide of their careers for the last few years (Boyens, Elliot, Lochhead), so I'm mostly wondering where we're now going to put Chris Killen next year.
If ya'll are interested go ahead and set up your own tab. I generally fill out the points total for everyone after each game, so don't worry about that.
Make sure to fill it out in its entirety, as I'll be locking it down when the first game kicks off. It looks more daunting to fill out than it is, so please join up folks!
Nope, keep it as is. I got the west wrong as well. I've also already gone ahead and totaled up your scores thus far.

Has anyone read Matthew Whitehouses' "Universality - The Blueprint for Soccer's New Era: How Germany and Pep Guardiola Are Showing Us the Future Football Game"?
I'm halfway through and so far he's spent half the book establishing that tiki taka and German high pressing are the two major tactics in use right now, along with a slight detour into the comeback of three at the back. Which is fine, but it's all the past and the present of the game and I'm wondering if the future will actually make an appearance at any point.

And both are supposed to be equal.
I think most American fans are just trained to view the playoff trophy as a bigger deal because of how other sports here work.
I, too, wish the Open Cup was bigger if we're all on the same page.
version of the FA cup, but somehow exponentially even less important.
The FA cup is unusual in that it was traditionally a big deal but it's gradually fallen in line with the cups in other countries over the years
