By the way there's this fantastic new room, but it's kind of rare I think, I only saw it once.
It has a bed in it that restores hearts if you sleep in it, but I think it requires multiple bombs to get in?
Also if you bomb the carpet in the middle of the room it straight up takes you to a Zelda Basement treasure room, like in the original game or the older handhelds.
Just beat Mom for my first time this iteration. Took me 4-5 attempts because I apparently forgot how to Isaac. Quad shot is still super awesome.
The antigravity shot is kind of neat but I think it might need some other stuff to synergise with. Or at least some damage ups which I didn't get any of at all.
The cursed charge shot is kind of cool too.
Beat Mom's Heart. I got lucky and had an XL curse for the Womb, because I had a deal with the devil for Guppy's paw, and I figured a bunch of spirit hearts would serve me better than like three regular hearts.
It didn't hurt that I found a magic mushroom in the Womb, which would max out my damage and tears. The heart went down really fast.
there's definitely an item that does that, you have it in one of the challenges, i don't remember having goat head in that one though? unless it was hidden at the start by another cosmetic effect
GumpyThere is alwaysa greater powerRegistered Userregular
The game gets harder the more runs you do, so a lot of older isaac veterans are running over mum in one or two runs before the game can catch up with them.

Oh right, there's a reusable item that does this, which costs you a penny each time.
SUPER QUICK BOI PRIMER IN THE MIDST OF MY WORK DAY
The goal is to go progressively deeper; you generally do this by beating a floor's boss (red door) and escaping through the hole in the floor.
On each floor there are certain things that appear consistently (always at least one item room - gold door, at least one secret room - found by bombing a hole where the door would be; these rooms almost always are touching as many other rooms as possible, so if you see three rooms surrounding a "blank" space on the map, it's a good bet that you'll find a room there if you spend a bomb).
You want to explore each floor fairly thoroughly; the more items you pick up, the more powerful you'll be.
Bombs are more for manipulating the level and opening secrets than for fights.
You'll probably also want to keep a close eye on your bomb/key resources and make careful decisions about when to spend each. The first time you find a locked item room and can't get a key you will feel really silly for opening that last shop, wherein you bought nothing.
The game has a ton of items and item combinations and you'll develop your own sense for what's most effective as you play.
There are like a million other "hot tipz" I might dispense with but they're better digested once you've thrown yourself at the game a few times.

I haven't confirmed this.
It'll get more difficult!
Utero is especially nasty.

Does it give you three black hearts or is that another item?

Here's a good new wiki for stuff, including a number of special seed codes (maybe something for the op?): http://bindingofisaacrebirth.gamepedia.com/Binding_of_Isaac:_Rebirth_Wiki
Diagonal shots (or was it curved?)
Diagonal. Except it still uses the cardinal directions, and shoots randomly between the two diagonals.
(I think anyways. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I tried aiming diagonally instead.)
Will you teach me how to Isaac

I ran around and picked up weird things and changed pill colors and then died.
Expert's guide to BoI:
1) Run around.
2) Pick up weird things. The weirder, the better.
3) Change pill colors. Frequently.
4) Die. A lot.
Yeah, do that.
I don't like the 4-way controls and the combat is not satisfying in the least
