On May 1st, 2015, it begins. Sixty-four comic book characters. Four “regions.” One champion.
Secret Crisis 2015
What is Secret Crisis?
Secret Crisis will be a sixty-four character comic book tournament. We’ve had those before, but it’s been a long time, and the aftermath of the GV10 awards seems like a really good time to start one, doesn’t it? It’s a single elimination 1v1 tournament, with four themed regions.
How will this work?
It’s going to be different from every other tournament that’s been run here, for one. GV is not the same place it was when these were around the last time, and in the interest of my sanity, I’m putting some twists on this to discourage the more intense forms of comic book nerdery and/or render them ridiculous. You know, kind of like the Glorious Edict. Each day of the first round, there will be four 1v1 matches, one from each section of the bracket. Each match will have a prompt or challenge. For example, you might be asked to imagine the combatants as pirates. Then, it is up to YOU what happens next?
What does that mean? It means that, along with voting, your posts and arguments will have a say in how the match happens and the actual power level of each character. Post your arguments in the debate threads, and the argument with the most reactions (that’s agrees or awesomes) will be accepted as canon for the rest of the tournament, IF your argument is for the character that ultimately wins the match in the poll. We’ll be handing out badgers for people who win these mini-contests, and a special badger for the forumer that ends up with the most at the end of the tournament.
What’s all this about themed brackets?
There are sixty-four characters in this, and to ensure we have a wide range of character types, I split the bracket into four groups of sixteen. Each group contains eight men and eight women, as well. The bracket themes are: Marvel, DC, Villains, and GV10.
Okay, who is in this tournament?
Wouldn’t you like to know? I have to hold something back, the tournament doesn’t start for another two weeks, and I still have a bit of hyping to do. I’ll be unveiling the bracket shortly. Keep in mind that by keeping this bracket to 64 characters, you are going to be missing some of your favorite characters.
What the hell was up with all those tweets and videos?
I think there’s enough info in this post to work out what those are about, but you will absolutely know what they’re for once we kick this tournament off.
The roster's already finalized! I'll give a hint for one of the "regions," though: there's a reason the Best New Character and Best Character Revival categories were the first categories
I think there's a decent mix of people who were in last time vs people who weren't. I had a couple of guidelines I was sticking to that forced some new blood in, and as for the mainstays...there's some things in place there that should make them fun, too, I think.
by advocating for socialism, I think you're saying you want the winter soldier to win

Wait, can we start with the comic nerding? Cause I need to know if the Arena operates under Robo's ridiculous science megaphysics, or more standard superhero stuff.

Also, I remember the bitter fight about whether Batman could take on Elijah Snow, or if that suit only counted because he had spent his entire life just trying to counteract Snow, and so it was irrelevant to the debate at hand.

Of them all, if Blue Beetle uses his full capability he would be able to beat everyone involved I think, but not sure
