I don't know. I have around two dozen solo games and enjoyed all of them. Out of those, there was one game where one player complained that all of us were new players, and there was one other where one player specifically called me a nub, which was amusing because I was murdering heroes that game.
almost all of my HoTS matches end in the 22-28 minute range. If you make it to 30 minutes it means the game is very competitive and the next teamfight is going to end it.
The map mechanics make it so that the games can't possibly last that long.
I've had a mostly good time in random games. And dudes who complain about "all the nubs" are especially stupid because they're complaining in the non-ranked newbie quick-match and not ladder or anything.
98.9% of the bitching I see is accusation about "being a league player"
which I guess is valid since league teaches people to never tower dive and never initiate if there's any hint of a disadvantage
but the average newb doesn't know that. you're actually better off with the newbs because they play aggressively which is by and large what HoTS seems to reward. Like... I find myself roaming at level 5 all the time. The laning phase lasts 2 seconds.
A Johanna player spent the entire match complaining about how terrible Blizzard's matchmaking was because the team compositions were a little wonky, so I asked if they actually enjoyed playing the game. They said "only when it's winnable."
So obviously we win, and I type "unwinnable" right before the match ends.
i don't know if coaching already exists in e-sports but his section about John Madden is 100% accurate and a point I've been wanting to make to anyone who will listen for a while
e-sports teams self-coaching and self-policing is the same as allowing the Cincinnati Bengals to run themselves. It just doesn't work as well for all kinds of social and strategic reasons.
And most importantly a good coach isn't necessarily a Rank 1 player. A lot of the greatest NFL coaches either never played, or played at such a low/terrible level that it's not even worth mentioning. There should be "meta guys" who are just analytical and can put good players in a position to win

I feel like some of my best matches have been with wonky compositions. Three assassins and two specialists versus a team with three tanks? Total domination.
I'm happy that smite has been successful after so many of their previous games failed
they pretty much have only themselves to blame for their failures. GA and Tribes both had plenty of excellence to tap into and grow, it just wasn't happening fast enough for them, so whoops, nuke it and move on
I'm not sure Tribes had the player base size or attitude to monetize in the way they have with Smite.
Global Agenda was a missed opportunity, definitely, but it's hard to recover from the sort of mismanagement that game experienced early on. I like to think that the Hi-Rez of today would have done better.
GA: Hmm, wow, we really fucked up release day and our game shipped half broken, well we could repair it and make it what we dreamed it could be, ahh fuck it, let's just buy the right to make the Tribes game we wanted to make anyway
Tribes, Day 1: tribes community: "don't try to micropurchase us. we will not play it if it's pay to win", Day 2: "announcing new stealth class micropurchases, for the low low price of 11,000 HiRez bucks you can be an immortal ninja warrior and alienate the only people left who still care about Tribes", Alpha Day 3: "guys why aren't people playing our game", Day 4: Announcing Smite!
i mean.. its not "man good for them for finally succeeding with Smite", it's the only genre available that could ever feed their thirst for cash, it would have been a miracle for them to fail

I remember the plasma gun they released was basically the beginning of the very quick end.
Insanely powerful for pay weapon that ruined balance.

HiRez actually has one of the kinder purchases in MOBAs to date; all playable content for $30? Hell yes. It's no DOTA 2, but it makes HOTS look downright fucking hostile.
just tried my first match of heroes of the storm with actual people.
Not to bad. First impression is it seems much more manageable than most mobas.
I played Raynor and wasnt quite the bottom of my team. But we had a Jaina leave most of the way through. But we won despite losing most of our towers. But we pulled through on the map objective and I dropped a few clutch ults

I think League could start demanding blood sacrifices and it would still make HotS's gold gain rate look hostile.

Uh, I really don't think HotS is worse than League. With quests, I feel like it's actually a lot better.
HotS is pretty terrible other than the generous leveling stuff you get.
Which is the worst form of free to play gain because it's one time and basically there to make you think the models better than it is while you're starting to play and drop you off a cliff into grind once you're playing regularly.

Rehgar: also good.
I soloed in HOTS exactly one time and it was miserable

A moment of silence as we live in a world without SMNC or Dawngate and yet Strife lives.

potential to eventually be profitable isn't enough

I slept in this morning, sorrrrrryyyyyyy. I went to bed late, I'll do better tomorrow.

But I've been buying them on sale each week, which is like...normal price in other games?
Even though it might take longer to unlock a single character, does it also take longer to unlock the whole lot?
The HotS roster is tiiiiny compared to League's.
presumably hots is going to keep adding characters for as long as they can
although charging 15k gold for a new champ is criminal. they might as well just force people to pay dollars.
They have so many voice files for characters not yet in. There's a huge amount of characters to draw from.
I'd even expect Overwatch to join after its released.
