Good. Fucking great. Well, looks like I'm on internet blackout for who the fuck knows how long. My mother, in her infinite wisdom let some fuck that owed the guy renting a room downstairs screw with her computer as payment for the guy renting, because he's "a computer guy" of course he didn't know what the fuck he was doing. So now HER computer is completely fucked, and SOMEHOW he managed to kill the modem, because suddenly MY computer doesn't have internet access. Of course this is all while I was at work, so I couldn't tell her not to do that. So now we have to pay for someone who actually knows what the fuck they're doing to come fix it.
Pretty sure you hold-outs can only hold out so long. Win10 is not going away and there's not going to be a Win11. You either take the plunge (while it's free) or wait until you have no choice (and pay for it) or you switch to Linux or something.
My concern is that if I decide to change my 4 year old MOBO after the free upgrade period ends next year I won't be able to use Windows 10 on that system any more because the Windows 10 licence you get with the free upgrade is an OEM licence tied to the system (MOBO) where you activated it (even if your previous Windows version was a Retail one and even if the current Windows 10 EULA seems to imply the opposite). Also, I have read contradictory versions about the possibility of downgrading back to your previous Windows version in that case. My Windows 7 Retail licence will have support until 2020 so I prefer keeping it for now until all this is clarified (hopefully before the free upgrade period ends next year).
When I spoke to a MS rep they said you can retain the same Win10 license when you change the motherboards CPU, or hard drive, you just have to reinstall win7 and upgrade again and you'll get the same license as it's apparently linked to your Win7 key. I sure as heck hope this is true because I eventually want to do this in the future. Of course I've never had to reinstall by myself before (or upgrade hardware) so I can only guess the process must be pretty annoying.
I feel dirty, I played a mobile game last night instead of serving the Newell. I have tons of awesome games on Steam and a beefy PC to play it on, but instead I played Fallout shelter on a crappy tablet that can barely run it... eesh.
About Windows 10:
I'm wary because they've been calling it Windows As A Service, and they haven't said what it will cost after the first year. I'm going to wait and see for sure.
Got myself an S-rank in MGSV: Ground Zeroes last night. I don't usually press for stuff like that but an idea occurred to me and it worked.
In the Deja Vu mission (one of the two unlockable missions for collecting all the XOF patches in the Ground Zeroes mission), I figured that I could sprint more or less from the start point all the way to the helipad, following the perimeter road under the bridge to avoid guards. Grabbed the scene with the Hind-D and the sentries. Snuck off up the side of the admin compund, soon breaking back into a sprint, darting into the next helipad area to collect the smoke grenades and grab the "box and lights" scene. Legged it into the door at the end behind the AA gun, lockpicked the fenced area just inside, hit the button in there for the "blackout" scene, then made a beeline for the exit which is just around the corner, quickly CQC-ing the guard around there so as to not get an alert.
The mission only requires one scene to be completed, but it looked like that was only enough for an A-rank. But those three scenes are more or less in a line, so you lose very little time doing all three (skipping the cutscenes they trigger, of course), and the extra points for the other two scenes are enough to go into S-rank territory.
Getting S-ranks in any of the other missions, though... they'll be a lot harder, I think. Especially as I tend to play stealth games slowly, and time seems to be a big factor in getting points.
And it's way more satisfying to get all the scenes in one go in that mission anyway.

I spent my evening figuring out how much of my Steam library I'd lose if I switched from Win7 to Linux.
It was a lot. Only 106 of 200-some games run natively.

I'm not sure that's something you have to worry about. They're going the way of Linux and OSX, in that they don't charge consumers who are upgrading this year from the right version to Win10. It's going to cost after this year, and OEMs still need to purchase licenses to tie to PCs and laptops they sell. They put out a lot of confusing language when they were announcing Win10, and Windows as a Service was one of the things they said that don't make no sense.
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!

Smartphones and MacOS have made the old Windows model of having to pay for new versions of the OS feel alien to a lot of people despite having the biggest market share of a given OS. It's a really weird place for Microsoft to be put in.
My bsod with win 10 gone ,but I got some random freezing of system 2-3 min ,and then everything back to normal..
That could be your hard drive failing and mucking up the page cache. Had that exact symptom set earlier this year. Fortunately the drive was just barely still in warranty.
Baaaah. I just remembered final fantasy type-0 was out today. Damn. I was looking forward to playing that. I have instituted a new rule here. After we call someone to fix this problem, there are only two people allowed to touch a computer in this house.

Hello and thank you so much to @ReverseCreations for Final Fantasy Type-0!
Super happy and cheery? I'm assuming this is a Final Fantasy school sim, where you can pick which classes to take, such as Summons: Gotta Catch 'Em All, Tips and Tricks for Gravity-Defying Hair, The Care and Feeding of Party Members, Grifting: This class is totally not about how to break into and steal from every home you come across without getting in trouble, really guys!, Grinding Leveling for Fun and Profit, How to Spot a Villain, and more! Everyone knows that the best/most adorable ending is the one in which you become an ambassador to the moogles and help them to save the endangered river and mountain chocobos from extinction, after poaching for illegal racing rings has decimated their numbers in the wild.
Thanks a lot @akajaybay
Very quick indeed! I was about to purchase this evening.
But seriously, I've been looking forward to this one.
I've been following Mike Bithell on twitter the last two years as he released little bits and pieces of the development of this.
So far the reviews seem positive
I may have stayed up till midnight to make sure I got the one game on DaxterMax's wishlist before anyone else, himself included. That one unbuyable game sitting on that barren wishlist for so long.
Start wanting more things.
Type-0 apparently only supports 720p and 1080p resolutons, in addition to the 30 FPS lock, wee.
Surprisingly the ZombiU PC port has an uncapped framerate and runs well on PC in general it seems. And it supports arbitrary resolutions like most PC games do. Figured that would be FPS locked too. Getting outdone by Ubisoft Square

So far it's really good guys. It's writing is equally as British as Thomas Was Alone was. Though less about inter personal relationship stuff.
Edit: Also apparently it's a sequel to TWA:
I just saw that on the homepage. it looked like the VR metal gear missions crossed with pac-man
Me, myself, and I.
People who have played it, how's it been and have the updates been making significant improvements?

If I did that right @iolo is the winner, if not let me know I'll roll again
You rolled a 1. Pretty sure that means you fumbled and your gifting attempt backfires. You should be receiving a gift in 3... 2...
No no, @iolo won fair and square. Sometimes it pays to be first on the internet!
